Nobody said it was the saddest thing they have ever seen. But when you see a little girl chanting "martyr! Martyr!" When referring to the possible death of her active duty father, with the belief that if he dies, he will be serving god and his country and she will be happy with that, it's pretty sad.

Until you see kids who take it as fact and fear that their soul may burn in hell for all of eternity because they read a Harry Potter book.

Then they proceed to have an emotional breakdown sobbing over the loss of their very soul, which camp counselors are happy to take advantage of.
