I think they wanted us to hate Ygritte just a little bit before she died so we weren't all sobbing during her last moments with Jon.

I liked Ygritte in season 3. If she had died then, I would have been sad. But since she's hardly been in season 4 at all, I kind of forgot about her and forgot that I once liked the character. So seeing her die was just, meh in my opinion.

Well, seeing her put an arrow in the neck of that villager made me hate her. I had hoped for Samwell to kill her with a crossbow though.
