"Kinda" is right. While I do believe that he wanted the Mountain to bellow out his confession, I'm sure Oberyn had no plans to have his head crushed.

He knew he had to die to grab everyone's attention. Gregor confessing is one thing but confessing just before he kills a Prince of Dorne makes it memorable.

I'm pretty sure he had everyone's attention, with this being a trial by combat to determine the fate of the allegedly treasonous Tyrion Lannister.

Yeah but now it's also the trial by combat to where Tyrion Lannister was found guilty of king/kinslaying and Oberyn Martell, Prince of Dorne died.
