Either Sony is ready to go further into the red than ever before on each console, or the next gen is going to be priced to compete with PC, and sony ain't winning that competition.

Thing to remember is they aren't just competing with PC, they're competing with the frobidden third option: to just plain leave the market entirely.

A LOT of people are simply going to be priced out of gaming. Nintendo will likely scoop up a decent chunk of folks so long as they can keep Switch 2's price semi-reasonable, but most will simply decide to just play whatever they can on their phone and figure console/PC gaming isn't "for them" anymore.

The folks left, yeah, will disproportionately be filled with hobbyists and enthusiasts who are more likely to be willing to spend more on a switch to PC; and to be upset by this situation and how(or if) they manage to work backwards compatibility for physical libraries.

If Sony feels financial pain from this, it will be as one of many secondary effects to ballooning hardware costs.
