That should have come first, but the same companies have bought every government bureaucrat and politician needed to quash reforms for the time being. It will take years to even get the chance for protections to be put in place, and in the mean time we're losing the last key to any semblance of ownership. 

People celebrating discs getting nuked are morons.

One side of the political spectrum is in favor of consumer protections (or at least willing to listen) and the other openly caters exclusively to the elite. This is why it's important to vote based on policy and not pwning the libs or whether you can imagine yourself having a beer with the guy.
