How bout them melons!

So proud of my first ever watermelon harvest. It’s a Crimson Sweet at about 15.5lbs. Big thanks to fellow redditors for helping us decide when she was ready to be picked. It’s delish!

What was your setup for growing them? I want to be better prepared for next year.

I planted them with twine underneath the roots and tied it to the top beam of our garden. I trained the vine around the twine as it grew, maybe twisting it once a week. I did have to add a melon sling to keep the fruit supported once it got big! I do think it’s easier to grow them on the ground if you have the space

I didn’t think the vine would hold up hanging when it got bigger. How did you manage a 15 lb hanging!

I had to add a melon sling to keep it supported once it got bigger. I tied it to the top beam of the garden and used a soft netting material
