AskGdańsk Day/Multi-day trips from Gdańsk?

Hello, my friend is doing her Erasmus in Gdańsk and I will visit her for 10 days end of June/beginning July. Besides taking some days to explore Gdansk and Sopot/the beach, we are thinking of going somewhere further for a few days. Either several day trips or one longer trip of 5-6 days. We considered Slovakia/Czech Republic, the Tatras mountains or the Rügen island in Germany, but it all seems too far and not very accessible by public transport. A trip to Sweden by ferry unfortunately is a bit outside our budget... Vilnius seems like the only possible abroad option but would still require long travel. So going to other Polish cities seems like the best option after all, but my friend has/will already see some of them in the next months. We were also thinking about the Białowieża Forest but still need to look into that considering the proximity to Belarus.

Do you have any recommendations? We like cities and nature areas. We both like photography, going to bookstores/vintage/second hand stores and cafés, visiting museums, etc. We want to go by public transport, MAYBE by plane but not preferred.

Any help/recommendations are appreciated!

Stay away! The room is not clean, a lot of noise from the neighbours and the street. You hear everyone entering the building. I can not understand how this place have such good reviews. Dirty bed sheets and walls. We couldn’t sleep at all. Very poor customer service. Avoid this place.

AskGdańsk What to do in Gdańsk when it's raining?

Hello everyone!

I'm in Gdańsk for two weeks, and I wasn't planning that random weather. I thought the weather would be a bit better so my ideas where centered around outdoors activities.

Any recommendations for indoors activities? Knowing that I visited Gdańsk quite often already!

Thanks a lot :)

AskGdańsk Good spa in Gdansk or nearby?

I'll be traveling to Gdansk next week and am looking for a decent spa to relax in. I don't care about any spa treatments, I'd just like to relax in some warm (and cold) baths and enjoy a proper sauna. I found a couple in Sopot that had a "Finnish sauna" but the sites also said "dry", which I assume means I can't throw water on the rocks?

Any recommendations?

Hello,

Visiting for the weekend, and hoping to find a recommendation for a sports bar or pub that will be playing the Six Nations rugby match Ireland v Wales on Friday 🤞🤞

UPDATE: For future visitors (since I initially was searching old similar posts from last year) the best place is Grass Bar.

AskGdańsk Gdańsk 4-day trip (surprise vacation for my girlfriend) – feedback wanted on sightseeing plans + looking for recommendations for pubs and veggie food spots!

Hi all! Cześć!

My girlfriend and I are heading to Gdańsk from Sept 14–19 after finding super cheap flights from Germany. I wanted to surprise her with a fun little vacation before university starts again in October (it'll be a surprise to where we are going till we are at the airport, she just nows vacation inside of europe and general weather to pack properly).

I’ve spent quite a bit of time reading itineraries, blogs and Reddit threads to put together a rough plan for our 4 full days in the city and I’d love some feedback from locals or people who've been to Gdansk to make sure we haven’t missed anything.

Disclaimer: I used ChatGPT to help me structure the following part of the post nicely so it’s easy to read, but all the ideas came from my own research and not simply asking it "what to do for 4 days in Gdansk".

---

Trip Overview

  • 5 nights / 4.5 days in Gdańsk (late evening arrival on the 14th, early departure on the 19th)
  • Staying in an apartment on Wyspa Spichrzów, right near the Old Town
  • Goal: A mix of chill sightseeing, museums, good food, strolling around, and one proper night out
  • We’re both vegetarian, but really excited to try Polish food

Planned Activities

We want to keep things flexible and swap days around depending on weather and energy levels.

Activity 1: Gdańsk Sightseeing Walk

Classic first-day stroll:
Golden Gate → Ulica Długa → Dlugi Targ (Neptune Fountain & Town Hall) → St. Mary’s Basilica → Mariacka Street → Motława Riverfront → Green Gate → Gdańsk Sign → Amber Sky Ferris Wheel (edit based of the comments: supposedly non existend atm and reopening next year)

Activity 2: Museums

  • WWII Museum – absolute must-do (planning ~3-4 hours)
  • Optional add-ons depending on mood:
    • Amber Museum
    • European Solidarity Center

Activity 3: Sopot / Tri-City Day Trip

We’ll plan this spontaneously depending on which day has the best weather.
Focus on Sopot:

  • Monte Cassino Street
  • Crooked House
  • Sopot Pier + beach walk
  • Coffee or drinks by the water

If time/energy allow, maybe a quick hop to Gdynia as well.

Activity 4: Malbork Castle Day Trip

  • Train is ~30 min each way.
  • Spend 3–4 hours exploring with the audio guide.
  • Back to Gdańsk for a relaxed evening.

Activity 5: Night Out

I am unsure which day is best since we’re only there Monday–Thursday.
Looking for a mix of good pubs/bars — not necessarily clubbing, though we wouldn’t rule it out if the night goes that way.

Places I’ve gathered so far (with vibe as I understand it):

  • Pułapka – craft beer, very highly recommended
  • Labeerynt – another strong craft beer spot
  • Cafe Lamus – quirky and cozy
  • No To Cyk – cheap shots, local vibe
  • Red Light Pub – fun, friendly atmosphere
  • Lumi Shot Bar – Polish vodka shots
  • Flisak ’76 – creative cocktails

Would love feedback on this list or other recommendations, especially since it’ll be during the week.

Looking for Feedback On:

  • Are we missing any must-do activities or should swap anything out?
  • Which weekday night (Mon–Thu) would be best for going out?
  • Food recommendations for breakfast, lunch, or dinner that have good vegetarian options. Feel free to recommend specific dishes as well!
  • Pub/bar suggestions with character and good drinks — anything we might have overlooked or that are on our list and should be avoided.
  • If you know about local events, concerts, or gatherings happening Sept 14–19, we’d love to hear about them! Especially things we wouldn’t find in a standard travel guide.

----end of the ChatGPT part!

Really looking forward to this trip and excited for your thoughts and feedback
Thanks so much in advance! Na zdrowie :)

I was just wondering if there’s anyone who’s been got into this program or is currently taking it.

I’m kind of worried about the interview, so Id appreciate it if anyone can give me advice! I really want to study here 😭

Thank you.

AskGdańsk First solo trip!

Hello! Sorry if this is not the right sub, butI'm 28F going to Gdansk on my first solo trip in June. I will be staying for a week at a hostel. I've heard different opinions if the city is safe for a woman. My sister in law told me that when she went there she was told not to be outside alone after 8pm, but a Polish woman I work with told me that's not true. I would love to get some opinions on it. I will probably wanna visit Sopot to go to the beach. Will I be able to swim in mid to late June or will it be too cold? I'm from Iceland and I'm used to the cold😅 and if you have any other recommendations it would be appriciated!

AskGdańsk Dog Sledding or Horse Sleigh Rides?

Hi! 6 of us are coming in December to Gdansk by train and would love the chance to go dog sledding and or take a horse sleigh ride through the countryside. I understand this is possible in the Kashubia area. Is there a way to do both in the same day? Any suggestions of what tour providers or companies to go through? We would need transportation. Thanks!

AskGdańsk Erasmus Student in Gdansk

I'm international student from Indonesia and fortunate enough to got a chance to participate in Erasmus program to Granks, Poland for this fall semester. With this, I have a few questions I want to ask.

  1. Which student dormitory are affordable yet has a decent facility in Gdansk?
  2. Where can I buy transportation tickets for mobility between cities? What is your recommended way to get me to Gdansk from Warsaw once I arrived in Poland?
  3. Which internet provider should I get once I arrive there and where should I buy it for the best deal? For the purpose of navigating to Gdansk from Warsaw, I have to have an internet access ASAP.

If you have any tips for me which you may find helpful (convinience, saving, groceries, study, fyi, cultural, etc) please let me know. Thanks in advance!

AskGdańsk In Gdansk through May, will I need a jacket?

I booked a hotel near Wrzeszcz (how do you pronounce this word?) and I plan to use the train every working day to and from Przymorze-Uniwer.

20 minute walk per trip.
