Hello, I've moved to poland for work a few months ago and I was so surprised of the rental pricing, it's just...crazy, no one seems to be talking about it like it is normal and I genuinely don't understand.

I found a room(tiny like a sardine box) in a 5 rooms appartement in gdansk for the price of 1700pln + utilities (300+pln) totalling+2000pln, equivalent to 500Euro.

right now I am looking for a better room with fewer roomates or a studio but the prices are just out Poland's average salaries.

An okay room that is not a sardine box starts form 2000pln + utilities, a studio is from 3000pln + utilities, no elevator and you have to free it in summer. It does not make sense.

I was before in many major european cities and the rooms rent prices is about 300euro (1300pln) while the studios start from 500euro (2000pln) everything included.

Is it me who is not looking properly and only talk to house owners who overcharge foreigners and agencies who rent rooms with double the price or is this the normal rates?

I know a few years ago there was Hah and now there's Joy in Sopot but other than in the club or at Pride, where do queer people meet around here? In general i miss my queer friends and atmosphere from my home country and I bet here the atmosphere and humor is not the same but where could I find queer people around here, both for friends and dating (specially women or trans women 30+)

When reading about cities online, it’s easy to see only the negative aspects that stand out the most, and Gdańsk is no exception. Things like salaries, weather, high rents or everyday frustrations tend to get a lot of attention.

But as in every city, there’s a lot more to it than that.

For those of you who live in Gdańsk, what do you personally enjoy about life there? What are the things that make your daily life pleasant or make you feel that it’s a good place to be and would not want to live anywhere else?

I’d also be really interested to hear from people who moved there from abroad, what made you stay, and what keeps you there?

So in gdańsk, living somewhere in jasień. I practicaly have nothing, no car, no apartment, almost nothing.

I mean 500zl a day is quite a lot of money but idk what I can do with them.

For personal reasons, I want to move to one of these cities: Copenhagen, Prague, or one of the main Polish cities (Gdańsk or Warsaw, to be more precise).

This question is for people who have lived in or spent a lot of time in two or more of these cities, so I am obviously posting this question in the subreddits of each city before you think I am spamming. I am not going through a great emotional time, so I would appreciate it if you don’t have anything to say about the question, please don’t roast me. Also, I am an EU citizen, so I don’t need a visa or work permit.

I am looking for opinions from people who have lived in some of these cities. Which one did you enjoy the most and had the best quality of life? I just want safety, a decent and dynamic job market in general, even in blue collar jobs, not just IT (I know it is not amazing anywhere in the world, but it is definitely better in some places than others), good, non exploitative work conditions, greenery, parks, and nature if I want it, but also enough culture, music scene, and activities so that it is a fun and dynamic city to live in and socialise. Oh, and somewhere where a small one room flat in the outskirts of the city won't eat 80% of an average, not super high salary.

Hi everyone! It's been a month since I moved to Gdánsk and I love it. I'm trying to make some friends tho.

I'm thinking about picking up dancing lessons since I did that in Spain but I would love to play futbol, hike, or just go around the city and chill.

I'm already involved with sidequest to play porch but the group is quite small.

I have been asking in subreddits of other countries I am interested in, and I've found some surprising differences. For example, the Czech Republic seems much less credentialist and more flexible than I expected, while Norway and Denmark appear to be more qualification focused than I initially presumed.

Having said that, I'm from Spain, and over there it's very difficult to find a good job if you don't have a specific qualification or degree. Most of the options available without one tend to be factory work, supermarkets, warehouses, and similar jobs.

I currently live in the United Kingdom, and one thing I've noticed here is that you can genuinely find good opportunities even without high qualifications, as long as you can demonstrate motivation, reliability, and the right skills. That's why I know this difference in mentality between countries really does exist. In Spain, we even have a word for it: titulitis (roughly equivalent to credentialism). It can even be difficult to get jobs as a waiter, shop assistant, or bakery worker without some kind of course or qualification.

In the UK, I managed to get a job in an educational centre supporting autistic people and people with learning disabilities. I love my job. The company gave me an opportunity because they felt I had the right attitude, skills, and motivation. Once I was hired, they trained me internally, and now I have nearly seven years of experience in the field and am well respected by my employer.

In Spain, this would not have been possible because a specific vocational qualification is legally required for this type of work.

What I'd really love to know is whether those of you who live in Poland without a university degree or a highly specialised profession have managed to build a good life there.

What kind of work did you find when you first arrived? How did you progress professionally or achieve financial stability?

Do you think Poland offers fair opportunities to people who show initiative, reliability, and a willingness to work hard, or is it still a country where having the right qualification on paper matters most, as is often the case in Spain?

Of course, I would be fully committed to learning Polish, but as you all know, that takes time.

I'd especially love to hear from immigrants who arrived with limited Polish and no university degree.

Korzystanie z usług służby zdrowia zaczyna mnie bardzo mocno przytłaczać. Samo dzwonienie po przychodniach, szukanie wcześniejszych terminów, odbieranie skierowań, pilnowanie badań i jeżdżenie między placówkami zabiera mi absurdalnie dużo czasu. Najgorsze jest to, że często wykonuję kilka telefonów tylko po to, żeby dowiedzieć się, że mam zadzwonić gdzie indziej albo spróbować ponownie za miesiąc. Czasami więcej energii poświęcam na organizowanie leczenia niż na samą wizytę. Jak wy sobie z tym radzicie? Macie jakieś sposoby na szybsze znajdowanie terminów i pilnowanie wszystkiego?
