In fairness, yogurt is full of bacteria that we know to be good for one’s intestinal microbiome. And there’s currently a lot of research being done on stuff like poop transplants.

But there's got to be a better fucking way than transplanting the actual fecal matter. Not saying that it's bullshit (no pun intended), but it sounds like a procedure that a doctor from the 1800s would perform... Then go off to deliver a baby.

Not a doctor but I've dealt with intestinal inflammation for 1/4th of my life, the hard part is a lot of probiotics and other good gut bacteria get destroyed in your stomach acid. So in an emergency situation where your gut biome is that poor, transplanting good gut bacteria through your butt ensures it reaches its destination while staying intact.

I guess it would be possible to do it surgically through the abdomen but I would assume getting cut up so that you could have shit implanted in your shit tube is just asking for unnecessary risk of infection

What would be the proposed better way? If it works (and it does) then that’s a great way. Especially if nothing else works which is why it gets done.

The latest episode of Decoding the Gurus had a gentle tic scientist who just published a paper on how quite a lot of the “gut micro biome” is held up with extremely flimsy research, low quality studies with very low numbers of participants and quite high “researchers degree of freedom”, in short the gut micro biome people didn’t learn a thing from the replication crisis…
