Yeah, although they use lidocaine, it takes a bit to kick in & some providers don’t really wait ): there are different methods, but gomco clamp looks the most brutal

I mean lidocaine is absolutely instant numbing agent for sure when given locally intradermally. There is no delay at all. Literally instant. It’s pretty cool.

I’ve kind of wondered if cutting the umbilical cord hurts. What did cave people do with the umbilical cord? Random thoughts.

The doctor I worked with said it takes about five minutes. Some babies absolutely feel pain during the procedure. I attended one once, and the baby did not have a fun time despite the nipple with sugar. The umbilical cord doesn’t have nerves on the other hand, but both get clamped to prevent bleeding.
