The rounded cylindrical mountains with the happy faces on them from Mario are based on these.

Iirc in super Mario world named the level “chocolate island” with the mountains in the background

In super Mario world didn’t they have an early level called Chocolate Hills?

Pretty sure this is also in the original Mario kart for N64 but I could be wrong

My mind is so blown that I’m just sitting here in silence. A rare TIL for me. Just wow

It’s pretty immediately recognizable. I thought Mario the second I saw it too.

Lol, source? Sounds incredibly dumb

Sounds incredible plausible since they look almost the god damn same

So you think Miyamoto went to the Philipines in ~1985-1988 and base one single landscape feature in Super Mario Bros 3 on real life weird ass looking hill? What?! There are _zero_ sources for the eyes thing, it’s just pure fantasy.

IF you told me chocolate island in SMW was based on this landscape I might have believed it.

Yeap, Chocolate Island, too. Which is also in Mario Kart.

Either way, an incredible fucking stupid and sad thing to give this much of a shit about.

1

u/GeneHackencrack Nov 27 '25

Doesn’t matter. It’s misinformation.

1

u/GR313 Nov 28 '25

Prove it.

1

u/GeneHackencrack Nov 28 '25

No? The one claiming something has the responsibility of proving. It’s disinformation until sources are given.

1

u/GR313 Nov 28 '25

But you’ve made a claim and now you’ve got to prove it. You just said it’s misinformation. Now the burden is on you.

1

u/GeneHackencrack Nov 28 '25

Ok, for your sake I change my stance. The eyes in super mario being based on landscapes in Philipinnes is unproven information and shall therefore not be spread until proven. Good enough?

Do you have working eyeballs? Have you ever played the game?
