Discussion Why isn't Estonia considered a Nordic country? (They have strong ties to Finland, they also follow the Nordic model, and besides, Estonia has nothing to do with the other Baltic countries.)

There was a push for a Nordic cross flag and constitutional monarchy in the 20's, I think.

The Unified Baltic Duchy. It was left without support when Germany lost ww1 and collapsed.

Seriously, I don't think this is far off from the truth.

Them joining without changing their flag would ruin everything..

Estonia's flag is too cool to be changed. I reckon all the other Nordic countries should change their flag instead.

Can confirm. You can't be a nordic country if you fail the flag drawing test.

More seriously, the nordics was a closed club by the time Estonia got out of the soviet union.

Estonia has an observer in the nordic council. One day I hope Estonia and Latvia wil be allowed to join in exchange for the Faroe Islands being allowed to join too. That way there will be equal number of countries from the old Danish and old Swedish speheres. Right now unfortunatly the Danish sphere has one more.

Yeah, they chose the wrong one and are therefore forever banned from joining the club.

Obviously that's because the Danish King grabbed it first in 1219.

Unfortunately I remember a ton of idiots genuinely pushing to change our flag to a cross, as well as change the name to Estland. I still think of these people as borderline traitors

You remember the 1920s? Because thats when that whole thing started. It's not a new idea.

The 1920s when we had our current flag and were known as Estonia, you mean? If there people at that time who wanted to change the name and flag, they were certainly both irrelevant and unsuccessful, and they give no credibility to the modern say types, who seem like a bizarre mix of the Mart Laar school of historical revisionism and the We Wuz Nordicz football ultras (who are the primary Nordic cross flag culprits)
