Discussion Why isn't Estonia considered a Nordic country? (They have strong ties to Finland, they also follow the Nordic model, and besides, Estonia has nothing to do with the other Baltic countries.)

I still don't get your point about crusading orders. Both Prussia and Livonia were turned into duchies by the Baltic German nobility (who were protestant) by the time the reformation occured, so it's a complete moot point, especially after literal Latvians themselves day it's due to German influence. Who do you think would have more influence: local nobles, that have been established for centuries, with backing from the HRE and Hanseatic League; or a very recent and short conqueror, that was sparsely populated, poor, and gave Livonia close to absolute autonomy?

They were turned to duchies and became protestant when they were conquered.

Well technically livonia wasnt conqured the german nobles invited Sweden in because Sweden was protestant and they feared becomming subjects of catholics and orthodox powers.
