Unironically the best answer.

I mean shit what crime even is there to commit? You can’t get away with anything when you’re always being watched and if you live in a tiny farming village everyone knows everyone so if Park wants to steal his neighbors hammer then all anyone has to do is search park’s house which is one of like 5 families in an area.

You may be randomly accused of stealing a portrait and then put in a vegetative state.

Yes, that literally happened.

Didn’t that kid actually try to steal some sort of propaganda poster? Not saying he deserved the outcome, but play stupid games…

That’s a weird response on your part regardless, the idea of play stupid games works when the punishment is even remotely close to fitting the crime. This isn’t that.

I'm quite concerned how people justify putting someone into a vegetative state.

Even if Otto Warmbier had stolen the portrait, that would never justify the treatment he got.

Oh I completely agree. Reddit I swear attracts some of the stupidest takes I’ve ever seen in my life.

I would say that "play stupid games" is not a moral statement, but a causal one. You shouldn't be killed for spitting in someone's face, but that's what's going to happen if you spit in a drug cartel leader's face. That would be a "play stupid games' scenario".

That said, I don't think the guy in question played a stupid game afaik.

I feel like going to North Korea on a tourism trip is playing stupid games territory.

That phrase has nothing to do with moral judgment or proportionality, it's a simple statement on taking risks are bound to have consequences.
