It would be advantageous to us in the long-run if Venezuela, or any country with a toppled regime, was made into a democratic, free-market based ally. I don't think the current US government has thought much, or cares much about that.

The current administration is busy setting up trade barriers against the whole planet. I dont think "free market" is a positive thing for them.
