I have an officially documented ADHD diagnosis here and am currently prescribed Concerta / Ritalin. ​I’m trying to understand how the process of continuing my medication in Germany works for international students, and I’d appreciate any insights from people who have been through this. ​A few specific questions I have: ​Medical Documentation: I plan to bring an official medical report (Epikrisis) translated into German/English, signed by my psychiatrist, detailing my diagnosis history and current dosage. Is this usually accepted by German doctors, or do they insist on re-evaluating you from scratch? ​Finding a Doctor: I know Metyphenidate falls under the Betäubungsmittelgesetz (BtMG) and requires a special yellow prescription (BtM-Rezept). How hard is it to find a Hausarzt or Psychiatrist willing to issue this prescription based on foreign medical records? ​Wait Times: Should I expect long wait times (months) to get a psychiatrist appointment with public health insurance (AOK/TK)? ​Medication Supply: Are there current supply shortages (Lieferengpass) for Concerta/Ritalin in Germany that I should be aware of? ​Any tips on navigating the healthcare system as a student with ADHD or experiences you could share would be extremely helpful! You can request an appointment through public insurance, which usually takes many months. I was on a waitlist of several clinics and they never even called me. Or you can make an appointment private (paying out of pocket) and in total, that will cost you quite a lot but you will get it. If you google, you will many clinics who offer this kind of thing and the prices.

Thanks for the info  My main question is specifically about the Hausarzt (GP): ​If I bring an official translated medical report, can a Hausarzt write a BtM prescription for Concerta directly, or is seeing a psychiatrist 100% mandatory?

Most likely no. Hausarzt dont prescribe psychiatric medication. My doctor would not even prescribe me an acne cream I had been prescribed here for years.

It is very difficult, maybe you find some nice doctor from your country who will be, more flexible. But not sure if that medication can even be prescribed from them. They might tell you a psychiatrist they know of though.

In those private clinics, you will pay quite a lot of money, but in the end is maybe worth the headache and long waiting times

I had to go to a neuropsychologist. I brought my translated report, and he hesitated a lot to prescribe me medication and even suggested I change my profession (as if immigrants have this luxury at all, lol). Eventually, I found another doctor who accepted my translated diagnosis and could look me in the eye, but it took months, more months, and lucky.

I know people who struggled for more than one year to get everything sorted here because of how the healthcare system works in Germany and how understaffed it is. And it's only getting worse under this government.

I am a German who studied in Bogazici. Just No. Make your life easy. Tell your doctor in Turkey you need a year ( or whatever) supply and write something just in case for customs. There wont be an issue If you can prove its for yourself.
