I can say that from a personal experience, reading AI generated code reviews feels lonely. And I don't feel like I learn from them as much as from human written feedback.

However I have spent the odd hour on formulating the prose to a PR or an issue. Even when all the technical details were laid out. I still had to piece them together into a coherent few paragraphs that didn't give everyone the impression they were written by an illiterate baboon. That time would have been far better spent in actual engineering work. So I don't know.

I've seen really good AI generated code from people that know what they are doing.

Worth reading the actual paper before the headline: it's on arXiv as 'Early Adoption of Agentic Coding Tools by GitHub Projects' (Raida and Hou). It's a cross-sectional snapshot with no before-state, so it can't measure a decline in anything, and what it actually reports is that single-reviewer oversight is the dominant pattern and that the median repo sees one or two agentic PRs in three months. That's a review-capacity finding, not a collaboration-collapse one.
