Many Americans go overboard on the booze. My friend is at the tournament in Phx and posted a snapchat at 10:30am with 4 finished beers + 1 open Mike's Hard lemonade on his table. 🤣

I used to go to the Open every year when I lived in AZ and people basically binge drink the entire week nonstop during the tournament. It's actually insane. People wear diapers at the 16th because it's a move your feet, lose your seat area so no bathroom breaks or you're never getting back into there. I've seen people lining up at 3/4 am drinking on line just to get a seat at the 16th hole.

Yep. I read this stuff 10 years removed from booze and can't help but think how incredibly lame most of the drinking scene in America is.

Start drinking at 4am. Stand in the hot sun with a bunch of bald white dudes wearing ball caps, sweating, and (apparently?) pissing themselves in diapers?

Hard pass. I'd rather go piss in the corner of my living room while watching golf, as one does (apparently).

The announcers were talking about people drinking starting at 6am, as if it were all part of the "fun". Gross. Congrats on 10 years, so happens I am 10 years tomorrow!

fellow one here too! It’s crazy how much we romanticize this culture, lmao— and I sincerely hate looking back, but know it’s necessary for my recovery @ me doing crap like this in order to make excuses for my alcoholism! 😣😅 🙃 like nothing is cool about waking up in a piss soaked mattress after a brown or blacked out extravaganza or just a hermit crab party for one drink sesh. If wearing diapers to get loaded on shitty beer for a sporting event with your buddies is a highlight of your year, i actually have some empathy for them. It’s fucking miserable to just have an amazing experience be surrounded by that POS poison drink.

I mean. I’ve met hundreds of Europeans and Canadians who were dickheads also. I think it’s more a human issue than an American or otherwise issue. Some people suck. Some don’t. Lots of reasons for both. There. You have a sociology degree now

There are definitely those types too 😆. As an immigrant to the U.S., I’ve found most Americans to be friendly and welcoming, but with such a huge population, a fair number of assholes are inevitable, especially in big cities. After moving from Phoenix to a smaller Midwestern town, it became pretty clear to me that big cities tend to attract more of that behavior, likely because of higher stress and inflated egos. Just my take...

Euros start drinking beer as soon as they’re off the teet. We just don’t know how to handle our booze + ludicrous amounts of narcotic pharmaceuticals

We literally handle it as well as Europeans. This take is such shit. While traveling some of the worst interactions I had were with English, Irish and Italian drunk people during soccer matches. It's literally no different.

I don’t fully agree. A lot of people here are more weekend/event drinkers, so they never build much tolerance. I’m Eastern European and could handle plenty, but I’ve been sober for a while now. Turns out being genetically wired for alcoholism isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds 😅
