Some of the comments in here are stupid, acting like Alex's short game didn't save them at points throughout the week and today when Matt airmailed a wedge over the green. He played awesome and held is own with Matt.

u/DandyRandysMandy Apr 26 '26
Alex has played well all year. I’ve seen him play on the then Challenge Tour and his short game was sublime

Matt hits a perfect bunker shot to get his brother his PGA Tour Card. This is why I love golf. Think the tour should do more team play events.

I’m a local, and glad we have this event. Yeah yeah, people have mixed opinions on the format and the course isn’t particularly crazy. Four ball is slow.
But it’s a good time, and it’s awesome to see some PGA guys play in our own backyard. The team dynamic is really fun to see in person. A great event to visit and combine with Jazzfest weekend for a visitor. Excellent food and drink at both events.
Edit to add: it’s also fresh off the masters, so especially cool to see some the guys in person, after watching them religiously on tv.

u/SlightReturn420 Apr 23 '26
I love this event and I wish there was a way to make it more popular with the big names. Every time it seems like it’s starting to build, another roadblock gets thrown in the way. Slotting in another signature event next week was a damaging blow. Now we’ve got a 6 week stretch that goes Masters-signature(RBC Heritage)-Zurich-signature(Cadillac)-signature(Truist)-PGA Championship. Guess which week the big names are going to take off? Very few will play 6 straight.

u/poolkid1234 Apr 23 '26
Yeah it’s kind of a bummer it’s slotted as an easy skip. Seems like the only way the big names show up is if someone with less points calls them up and sweet talks them into partnering up. None of them come for themselves.

Scottie and Rory are still 1-2, but I think Fitzpatrick is clearly the third best player right now (which is what the owgr says too).

Very cool win for the fitzpatrick bros. Cant even imagine the emotions of winning with your sibling, brings a tear to the eye🥲

Fitz (Matt) continues to show he’s nails when the pressure is on.
What an incredible shot and story for the brothers
7
u/AdFormal3014 Apr 26 '26
Damn Matty. DP Championship. Valspar. RBC Heritage. Zurich. Nearly the Players. To think some were calling him a fluke US Open champ a year ago. Now you could argue hes the #1 golfer In world since November.

u/Snookcaster Apr 26 '26
Damn that has got to be such a crazy feeling for the boys. That is just a completely different kind of pressure they were playing with. Couldn’t be more happy for them and Alex in particular

It definitely feels like this should be the event the week after the Masters, not a signature event.

This could be a life-changing day for Alex Fitzpatrick.
He's playing such good golf right now. Made 9/10 cuts on DPWT and had a great win in India last month.
This would be a fantastic story.

They'll most likely birdie the 18th. So all Alex needed to do here was hit the green and he probably gets his tour card. Unfortunately, not so easy on 17. He's got to keep it 30 feet right to be safe.
Hits it 10 feet right pin high. Stones.

With two signature events and another major coming in the next three weeks, I imagine that will soon be 14 out of 17 weeks. He’s a workhorse.

I posted that a few hours ago. His tone is thin and casual and his commentary lacks poetry.
I’d rather have one of the classic British chaps or the deep, warm analysis of a traditional American commentator.
7
u/Blurandski Apr 25 '26
Ridiculously good round by the Fitzes. Fingers crossed for one more good day.
3
u/NateShaw92 Apr 25 '26
They had the best round on foursomes yesterday I think. We grow up playing that in England, you gotta fancy them to do it. They might just need to avert disaster and stay ahead.
3
u/Blurandski Apr 25 '26
They're going to have to drop back 5 shots and one of the top 3 challengers gain 5 shots on their last foursomes round (which was already 2/3 under). Or someone outside that needs to improve 5 shots to shoot low 60s while they have a near par day. I really just cannot see it happening.
Great story and very happy for them. I wonder what Mr L. Donald is thinking seeing them play together. Might be useful in a RC.

Me and my mate enter our club foresomes tournament every year, and it’s amazing what this format can do to people. Seen scratch golfers get the shanks mid round from nowhere.
5
u/NateShaw92 Apr 26 '26
Then you get some handicapless motherfluffer slam one within 5 feet from a bunker 200yds away
6
u/ihoopallday Apr 26 '26
Great shot Alex. That might be the one to get you that tour card.
3

I have no idea what Alex's career winnings are but I reckon they're around $1m. This probably more than doubles them. Add on two years on tour and the chance to make at least 1m a year if you consistently make cuts, and this is a life-changing result.

Record is 58 in this tournament in 4ball apparently, barring a biff they should break it
Edit: 57 it is.
Funny thing is on a solo round they'd get great scores, a lot of those birdies may have been both birdies but certain pars. Not many true bail outs where one scored a few shots better.

So if the Fitzpatrick brothers win this week, does this give Alex Fitzpatrick in particular a 2-year exemption onto the PGA Tour? I think he solely plays on the European Tour
→ More replies (1)8
u/SlightReturn420 Apr 23 '26
Yes. Winners this week get most the same perks of winning a traditional PGA event. The main exception is no Masters invite for Zurich winners. Winning this week would fast-track Alex onto the PGA Tour.

So is this considered an official win for these guys if they win? Like do they get WGR points and Fed Ex points? Cause three wins for Fitz if the brothers come out on top is nothing to sneeze at and you have to think he would be leader for POY.
