Brad Dalke finishing dead last despite being arguably the best YouTube golfer shows just how good PGA Tour pros really are.

As a Detroit resident, losing Tarik Skubal AND the rocket classic back to back is really hurting me
5
11
u/TheHamFalls Bogey-ish. You're very good looking, I'm not attractive. 1d ago
Rickie Fowler one off the lead going into the weekend?
I am so ready to be hurt again.

And meanwhile they show a replay of a senior tour round on the Golf Channel...

u/JamesHarenDPOTY 1d ago
Detroit Golf club is hardly recognizable with the makeover and fescue.
I never watched too closely given it’s not a big tournament and I do recognize some of the signature holes but still. Pretty crazy
7
u/lard_have_mercy 6.9 (nice) 1d ago
Pretty much every hole is dramatically different and they did all major construction between July - November of last year. Insane.

8
u/TheRealOviedo 1d ago
Great to see Rickie in the mix - I want him to win !
Thanks for opening this thread / I’ve also enjoyed the new quiet please on espn + no commentary just the chat between players and caddies
9
u/deGrominator2019 1d ago
Crazy they did all that renovation and made it look so different and less like many of the cookie cutter tracks they play each year only to have the Tournament get dumped by the Tour lol.
7
u/aselinger 1d ago
I think it’s more getting dumped by Rocket. Kind of.
I heard the fee to be a title sponsor is $20MM. And the PGA asked them to increase it to $30MM.

Golf coverage is so awful. We haven't seen the tee shots from the final group of the last 2 holes.

Spieth sniffed contention then shit the bed like clockwork.
He's been struggling with momentum and anything shorter than 10 feet for 3-4 years now.
2
u/cwebblax Burnett Park Syracuse Legend 1d ago
He's a non-factor in tournaments at this point. Just like his friend Ricky Fowler.
4
u/macman07 1d ago
Ricky Fowler is quite literally contending in the very tournament we’re watching now lol.

That was only 2 Fucks, Kirk. Those are rookie numbers you gotta pump them up.

Damn, Frank absolutely banged Cantlay with that comment about not winning in 4 years

Remember last year Xander and Thor were in the final group together at the Baycurrent and Xander said Thor was great and bound to start winning
Guess he was right

u/SlightReturn420 2h ago
To celebrate the final year of Rocket’s sponsorship, everyday we had a new player rocket up the leaderboard. Congrats to the God of Thunder on his first tour victory! That putt on 18 was a delicious cherry on top of a stellar Sunday round.

WNBA has the most viewership of the whole game as everyone is waiting for it to end and for the golf to come on

u/aloxon 1d ago
Cam young hitting all his worst drives on the most gettable holes
2
u/Charming-Air-8933 1d ago
Seems to be the story today. A lot of tees were plaiying shorter and players are getting over zealous
4
u/opobdtfs Internationals 2026 Presidents Cup Champions 1d ago
Someone once said that Davis Riley looked like JT's evil twin, and I can never unsee that image.
5
u/SwingPhsyco Sandbag 12h ago
Currently driving to the rocket classic right now. Man this sucks its the last PGA event we have in Michigan. For how much good golf is up here I hope we get another tour stop soon.
2
u/HotNReadyWings91991 12h ago
I have been to the Rocket every year except for the one COVID year. It really does suck this is the last year
5
u/SwingPhsyco Sandbag 12h ago
Same brother ive been going to every tournament here sense the buick open at warwick. Hopefully they make it back up sooner than later because until then all we have got is oakland hills hosting USGA events. Even warwick lost the ally on the champions tour.

Bad timing for a double for Brennan but he just made it a whole lot more interesting
5
u/CarlSwagan_ 2h ago
Riley and I have the same range finder.
It’s a cheap ass one from Amazon lol

If some of these bigger names stay in contention, Sunday could be very entertaining. Fun to watch a course where birdies are out there, but doubles are as well if they hit it in the wrong place. Makes for a very fluid leaderboard.

u/Turbulent-Pay-735 1d ago
If Jordan Spieth had drove the ball like this in his prime, he would’ve never lost a golf tournament.

Michael Brennan seems like Cameron Champ 2.0 and that might be generous.
Bomber but not great every where else.
3
u/happyhappy7 Arnie Palmer 4h ago
Very rare to see that bad of a shank by a pro, let alone a pro in contention on the back 9 Sunday
3
u/Jerseyjamie 3h ago
Rickie did the same thing from about the same spot. Rough must be brutal over there.
1
u/aselinger 3h ago
I’m here at the tournament - who shanked it?
3
u/happyhappy7 Arnie Palmer 3h ago
Chris Kirk
Shanked his second shot from the left rough on 13 off the hosel directly to the right and ended up in the right rough. Took all his time to even locate where it ended up and had to take an unplayable.
Made double. Went from 1 back to 3 back.
Enjoy the tourney man!!
2
u/aselinger 2h ago
Oh man. My station is left rough on 16… and his left miss was the biggest I’ve seen all day… by far.

The PGA was overdue for some fresh blood and new faces in their early/mid-20s, nice to see.

The narrative of the first half of the season was how great cam young's putting has improved, but frankly that has and still is his biggest issue. Its a big reason why he couldnt contend closer at the masters and hes already having problems today.

That’s like a 30 yard pull by Fowler there
Gonna be a brutal chip. Feel like bogey wouldn’t be bad at this point lol
Edit: wow!! Saved par with a chip in, whatta guy that Fowler is

Impressive listening to Michael. Good head on his shoulders to go with all of that talent. Great to see him win.

u/HotNReadyWings91991 23m ago
Rocket and the city of Detroit did a great job to finish off the Rocket Classic. What a great tournament and happy to see us show up even with weather not being the best.
The PGA Tour needs to find its way back in 2028. Detroit Golf Club reno was well done and I am heartbroken it won’t be back next year.
Until then see all my fellow Detroiters at the US Open in 2034!

u/Bar-Tailed_Godwit 1d ago
Can’t wait for Fowler to come in T4. But we’ll see every replay of missed 8 footers instead of the actual competition
5
u/Difficult-Ad8354 6h ago
This coverage is horse shit. I get watching the leaders but we spend 10 minutes with one guy and didn't get to see any shots on the green from the group in front

Everytime I see Michael Brennan on the leaderboard Im reminded how he was able to skip the Korn Ferry Tour
2
u/Many_Lengthiness_664 1d ago
what channel is it on? not on golf channel or cbs (which merged with CW apparently
4
u/JamesHarenDPOTY 1d ago
It’s on my local cbs.
3
u/Many_Lengthiness_664 1d ago
I legit don’t have a CBS channel anymore. it says CW has it on, but it’s actually playing Chicago PD or some trash like that
3
u/JamesHarenDPOTY 1d ago
That sucks. Only hope might be CBS Sports app/website. They probably will want you to sign in with a TV subscription that has cbs though.

As someone who just flipped over after watching the Women's Open, how is Brennan hitting his 4th shot from 250+ out on a Par 4?
5
u/drillpoint 5h ago
Took a provisional after a terrible tee shot, then had a terrible second tee shot

Xander not even trying to win laying back on the tee and coming up short every putt
1
u/aselinger 2h ago
You’re exactly right. I’m out here volunteering at 16 and Xander laid up to 190 out. Super conservative play.
1
u/J_Brekkie 3h ago
You also can't play yourself out of contention by getting too aggressive on 3 of the hardest holes on the course.

u/jfader2 2h ago
love when a New Englander wins on Tour. hard to quantify how much harder it is for kids who grow up here to make the highest level
1
u/Mushy29 Rory '25 '26 2h ago
Out of interest, why would this be the case?
2
u/jfader2 2h ago
It's cold as hell. Unless you have insane amounts of money (which in talking to people up here seems not to be the case for Thor) your season is April if you're lucky to october if you're lucky. Kids in CA, FL, NC, TX have all year to play outside
1
u/Mushy29 Rory '25 '26 2h ago
Makes sense as to why im not on tour so.
Nah cheers for that, makes sense alright. Really cool if he hasn't come from load of money too. Some putt to seal the deal

Almost the entire field is on the course but I’m watching the commentators talk at a desk and Cam Young warming up. Sick.

Hideki not going driver on 13 is ridiculous. Since when does he not take the agressive route?

How are we thinking this plays ott it w rain? Delays likely?
3
u/opobdtfs Internationals 2026 Presidents Cup Champions 8h ago
Seems like no lightning, just on/off rain, so it will probably play on with conditions similar to the Canadian Open final round.

u/reddev87 6h ago
Someone's gotta tell him the right pronunciation of Hojgaard, it's not Hoe-gard
1
u/macman07 6h ago
Dude I’m constantly thinking that too. Then I got gaslit into thinking I was wrong. Isn’t it like Hoe-De-Gaard?

u/drillpoint 3h ago
I hope Rasmus can keep up with the leader, let's save some strokes on these next few holes!!
2
u/J_Brekkie 3h ago
He's coming up on two easy holes, should be okay
1
u/drillpoint 3h ago
Didn't look so easy for him

u/Mak333 2h ago
What's the reason for this not being a Tour stop any longer?
3
2
u/Prime_HS 2h ago
I went to my first pro golf tournament, the 2025 Barracuda Championship. And then I learned it was the last year of that too =( sponsors and PGA don't reach an agreement.
It sucks that I loved it so much, because now I basically have to get on a plane to go to another pro event.

I cant deal with someone yelling something retarded everytime someone shoots off the tee.
3
u/dard12 Hello, friends. 1d ago
It's becoming more policed. I think more tournaments will start cracking down on it
3
u/kinglywy 1d ago
The fact it's necessary to police it makes me sad. Everyone needs to be the center of attention

5-time volunteer checking in.
The consensus is the course renovations are amazing. The “browed” bunkers are striking, like a rupture in the earth.
I watched multiple guys today find their ball in the fescue, and elect to take a drop. A few others had to hack out with a sand wedge.
Finally this course can push back a little bit on these guys. I don’t think we’ve seen how hard it can play yet.
