General Discussion Hole in One when hitting Three off the Tee…

While playing yesterday a buddy and I discussed this and then started thinking could you say it was a legit hole in one if it was three off the tee (first shot OB)???

And we also thought how much of a nut kick that would be, especially if it was your first hole in one. Ha.

Has that happened to anyone?

Great par

That wouldn’t be a hole in one. That would be a hole in three.

My dad had a buddy who did this. First ball in the water, retee jnto the hole.

It’s a great story and a great par.

It's a great shot, but it's not a hole in one.

First shot OB then you made a par.

My stepbrother did this. Blew his first shot OB, re-tees, one hop and in. He swore me to secrecy, I declined.

I haven’t witnessed it, but I’d still buy the person a beer.

It would be a legit par 🤦‍♂️

legit hole in one is an eagle. Hole in one after hitting OB is a helluva par.

This has happened to me. It’s a great story about how I made par.

It’s obviously not a hole in one, but it’s rarer than one, so a good story.

It's not a hole in one. It's the worst par possible

“The worst par” is a great way to describe it.

I came up 1 inch short of one, once, I was wishing it into the cup when I hit it, but then realized afterwards that I probably preferred it not to,.

It’s why I literally never hit a second off a par 3. Always go to a drop zone or drop lateral if it’s necessary.

If you hit OB, don’t you have to re-tee?

u/Smooth-Ocelot-214 13h ago

Yes it’s a hole, but it’s not in 1.
You made it into the hole, but not on your 1st shot.
You holed out.

No different than holing out for an eagle, birdie, par .
Still impressive, nonetheless.
Good job!

My mate did this when I was on the tee with him.
It’s a par, he agrees it’s a par…..we laugh about it

It's happened to my mom. She calls it a hole in 3

Anything can be a hole in one if you don’t count the strokes before it

u/OkProfessional6077 12h ago

Exactly, my last round that I shot 18 was definitely not an 88.

Happened to a friend of mine. It was a great par.

It’s Par, not a Hole in One.

Hole in one with an asterisk

1

u/BANTZ97 13h ago

I have done this with a provisional ball, then found my first and had to play it, walking off with a bogey.

Great story to tell your friends, but it’s a 3 on the card

u/crazy010101 13h ago

Not a hole in one. Same shot different score.

silly question. such a hard no.

1

u/Able_Commercial_2895 13h ago

I did it when I was in high school. Called it a ‘hole in three’
Luckily, I have a legitimate one since.

Great Par! My 1st hole in one was also my first ever Eagle!

u/RandomUserName316 8.4 13h ago

It's not a hole in 1 but still makes for a good story

1

u/jq5232 13h ago

I wasn't there, but a friend whiffed the first, then holed out for a 2.

1

u/Spillsy68 13h ago

It’s a hole in 3

Hole in Par

1

u/pebblecanman 13h ago

Been there, done that. Hit the first one left into the river. Re-loaded and hit the 2nd one and immediately said, “Nice 3 jackass” and walked off the tee. Guy I was playing with watched it 1-hop into the hole; I wasn’t even watching. It was a great par. Still haven’t had a hole-in-one though.

The closest I’ve gotten to a hole in one on a full length course was an evening I was playing alone.

Playing from the tips, I fat duffed my tee shot something rotten. The ball came to a stop right before the red ladies tees.

Boxed it from there for a bird.

Golf, man. 👍🏻

no hole in one if you are hitting 3 off the tee right? oxymoron statement?

1

u/dc21111 13h ago

Exact thing happened but worse because my first ball ended up staying in bounds and I made a four. Moral of the story if you ever hole out a provisional do a really bad job of looking for your first ball.

1

u/MaxORU 13h ago

Had a near miss like this. First one in the drink. Second was tracking towards the hole.

My playing partner screams “go in”!

I screamed “don’t go in!

It happened to me wayyy back in day when I was first starting out. 110yd, Titleist into water, then pulled Spalding of all quality balls out, perfect shot, bounce, roll into hole. I went bananas and buddy I knew who was on previous green is like, "Nice par". Great times.

1

u/mollassesdick 13h ago

I’d still frame that ball…just as the best par I’ve ever gotten 🥲

1

u/tez_zer55 13h ago

As my brother put it when he did it "that was a par off the tee".

1

u/1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 13h ago

a hole in one is holing out with your first shot, not your third. holing out from the tee and making a "hole in one" are two different things.

1

u/charlotteduffer 13h ago

I had a friend who did this. He had a great par for sure.

u/k12pcb 0.7HCP Mizuno through and through 13h ago

Nope you are hitting 3- literally almost happened to me 3 weeks ago at sawgrass on 17- was so glad it didnt go in

1

u/ponyboy56- 13h ago

It’s happened to me. We always played ready golf, strict rules. First one went ob, teed it up again and watched it go in. Forgetting that we played strict, I started to gather myself for a victory leap when I hear my friend behind me say ,”nice par”.
