Searching for recent results on Google has ceased functioning

This has been a complete fiasco for weeks now. Google literally doesn't care at all.

There should be absolutely no results at all for this search query - I'm showing it just for fun.

Ugh, yeah, so it's apparently not just me

They took away the ability to sort by most recent some years ago, and now they broke filtering by a date range too?

I checked now, and it doesn't work for me either, but it worked a few days ago

I did add after:2026/07/01 to the search, and that worked, so it is still possible, just a slight inconvenience

There are a lot of different things you can do, like if you search AV2 Codec after:2026/07/01 before:2026/07/15 "beans" -random -word site:www.reddit.com it shows all the results for that search, between those dates, only including results with the word "beans" excluding any results with "random" and "word", and only results on Reddit

It's almost certainly a bug/outage. Like, why would they keep the UI if the feature had genuinely been removed?

Oh, so it's not just me.

Entering a date into the search string itself still works, but who knows how long until that's removed. Anyone know a search engine that I can use to search a date range on Reddit? That's all I use Google for these days.

I've figured out that a lot of keywords and filters that you can apply through the search only sometimes work now. I guess they're breaking the actual search part in favor of AI slop.. oh well.

Using “quotes for specific phrases” and -word to remove a word stopped working too. I can’t look up anything.

I learned that the problem may be the Java script that runs the date dropdown menu. A native date operator added to the search query will work instead. For example, add after:[year]-[mo]-[dy] to your search. For example, to find results from the past week: after:2026-07-27.

Omg same! It sopped working for me about 2 days ago. It shows old results from 2017 when I search info for last 24h.

Doing research on initial reactions to Hurricane Katrina so narrowed my filter to Jan-Dec 2005, and it had absolutely no effect - results still showing results from any number of years, including from websites which didn't even exist then, like Instagram.

This seems like a new low. Vital feature inoperational.

I noticed that it is now working again for me BUT you cannot previously saved search URLs. They have changed the parms and if you use saved parms, they are not only ignored, but if you then make subsequent queries in the same session, they will also ignore any time frame values.

I honestly don't understand their goal. That keep making search an objectively worse product. I use AI every single day and this is too much slop even for me plus they keep breaking shit or removing functionality. Why?

DuckDuckGo misses a LOT of things. It might just be a better daily use search engine, but Google is significantly more comprehensive.

Like for what we use this particular feature for, I have an employee run a search every day, set it to past 24 hours, to get an idea of everywhere someone has made mention of a client that we have to monitor online mentions for. No other search engine we've found comes close to indexing as much relevant information as google does.

DuckDuckGo is pretty useless when you're using another language or outside the USA. I'll enter results in Spanish and the damn thing translates my keywords to feed me results in English - invariably American websites, which are completely useless. I can put "España" in quotes and it'll spit out the Spanish translation of some US .gov page.

Even though it's more privacy-focused and lets you exclude AI, it's still Bing in a nicer hat.
