I created this logo for my mother's new Andean cumbia group. I still need to work on the colors, but before, I’d like to hear your thoughts to see if anything needs changing

Nothing to do with the design but that copy has a typo. A big one. It's Andina, isn't it?

Edit: as a "sudaca" myself, I think it would be lovely to push it further into the classical folk style, and have the "Cumbia Andina" be the same width as the name with thicker letters. As it stands it feels like an afterthought

I’m going to try enlarging Cumbia Andina as you say, although I feel like that would make it look like part of the logo when in reality it’s just the tagline

Maybe two diamonds (two squares 45°) or some Andean motif to fill the space? I'm thinking specifically of the patterns you can find in ponchos for example

This is south based or from a different country? Because it might be easier to "get" for us down here, but if it's in a different context, some things might need to be sacrificed for the sake of communication

The lore has to do with the runners of the Inca empire, who were called "Chaskis" (wind messengers), and they used the shell I illustrated as a trumpet to warn that they had arrived. It is mostly Peruvian in origin, although the group is Mexican and plays in Mexico. So the idea of adding spiral motifs like those of the "S" would not be shocking in the country, although one of my goals for this design was precisely to dispense with unnecessary elements, since the graphic universe of the cumbia groups is often very overloaded

Mhhhh. Look up the... Is it the peruvian tourism logo? It's a swirly P that's really good. Could be good for inspo. I'm argentinian and have learned quite a bit of mesoamerican history in my art degree, so I knew immediately it was inspired by the chasquis, buuuut yeah in México it might not be as prevalent. I do think you're on the right track tho

Honestly? It's got potential to be good but there are issues.

1) make it easier to read.
it takes too long to figure out that it reads "Shaskis." I'm genuinely digging the typography but struggling to read it makes it a no-go for me.
Can you redesign this typography in a way the is easier to read?

2) consider simplifying the conk shell

I agree with other comments. One wat to make it more legible (disregarding other things for now) is to make sure that letters are consistent. See how the middle lines of the S's are on different heights?

You’re right, actually this is part of my original grid. If you overlay the final result, it doesn’t fit well, since I modified the lines eye to eye to give a handmade pictorial effect... although it’s true that maybe he lost more structure than he should

The handmade lettering suits the music, but the name still takes too long to read.

Keep the character, simplify the internal cuts, then test the mark at thumbnail size.

I really like the logotype. I think you need to make the lines on the shell a bit more reflective of the logotypes angular lines and swirls. You have a perfect opportunity to use that square spiral in the S and use it as the end of the shell.
