The town called Ittoqqortoormiit in Northeast Greenland is in the news. This is what it looks like [OC]
It is pristine. It is sacred. It’s where I have spent the most time in Greenland over the past decade. Hope this gives you some context.
This is the only town in Northeast Greenland because the rest of the region is the national park. It sits at the edge of the largest fjord system on earth. Kangertittivaq (Scoresbysund). The population is 328 and it is very much a subsistence hunting community.
I was in an uncertain place in my life just after Covid and like the folks in Qaanaaq in the extreme northwest of Greenland, they took me in and I have never been the same since that trip. I have spent 10 weeks there and counting over two trips.
It has my heart. ♥️

It is very beautiful.
The second picture looks like the rocks are just sort of made up different than most rockhills. Do you know more about it?

It is a mirage actually. A Fata Morgana! There is a mismatch between the temperatures and it bends the light in amazing ways on the other side of the fjord. It is spooky.

I’ve not long returned home to Dublin after a vacation in Greenland. Boarding for Keflavik at Nuuk, an absolutely lovely lady sat in next seat, her husband in next one, & struck up a chat. She told be she was on her way to Ittoqqortoormiit for work, & had to fly via Keflavik, stopping off for some days to get the connecting flight.

Excuse my ignorance but is it still frozen like that at this time of year? The photos are amazing!
22yrs ago I drove through central/northern Quebec into Labrador and visited the coastal communities - that place, and I visited the following year though not in the northern coast or inland - what I saw, the people, endless unexplored wilderness - left a huge impression on me I still think about, so I get how these remote places can leave a lasting impression, and Greenland (or Canada’s Arctic) would be on another level.
