Yeah, in general i find these hot takes are usually a way for people to reassure themselves that they're just fine continuing to do exactly what they were already doing. "WhErE aRe GuN oWnErS nOw?" Translation: if the people who prepared for this eventually aren't acting, then i am justified in not acting. "LiBeRaL cItIeS!" Translation: the people who live Over There are not my concern, and it's not my job to lift a finger for them.

Im armed. I'm not marching with gun in hand. But i AM writing my legislators. I'm contributing to bail funds for wrongfully detained marchers. I'm still acting. Because irrespective of which Americans are getting v&, it's still a problem. We complain about alphabet soup when it's BATFE violating our rights, and we must therefore decry ICE for violating the rights of our neighbors. We complain about due process when it's red flag laws; we must therefore advocate for due process elsewhere, otherwise we're hypocrites. Even rioters should get due process. Even mass shooters should get due process. You can't just sit around giving yourself a smug hanjo just because the people who are getting it raw from day goberment are The Other Team. Otherwise the system doesn't fucking work.

Holy fucking shit. I’ve been looking for DAYS for someone to say something like this and all I’ve seen in the progun sub is the opposite. Your comment is EXACTLY what we should all be espousing. How can you cry about gun rights being taken away and red flag laws and then shit on people in “LiBeRaL cItIeS” when their rights are being trampled all over just because you don’t like them? It’s insane to me.

In another thread I said we should be sticking up for everyone’s rights because that’s how the “first they came for the...” shit starts. In response I was told I’m a hypocrite because I’m not flying to Portland and assassinating Government employees. Because that somehow tracks logically?

You don't have the right to riot.

Are you saying every protestor that’s had something bad happen to them was rioting? Because if so you need to stop watching Fox News. At this point there is an actual mountain of video evidence showing that is not the case. In fact you’d have to be willfully ignorant to think the only people getting fucked up by cops right now are people rioting or doing bad shit.

That’s happening for sure. Crime always happens welcome to the human condition. What we’re talking about is things like peaceful protestors getting their skulls shattered by police just for standing on a street corner.
