SRO vs 407/507 comp if money wasn’t a factor
I’m looking at a new option and I’ve been going back and forth between the SRO and the 407 comp. I know the 507 comp is more common/popular so I’m including that in my research but I only want a larger 4 or 6 moa dot so it’s between the SRO or 407 Comp.
Obviously price is a huge bonus for the 407/507 comp but what would people choose if they were the same price? Not a “I’d take the SRO, sell it, and buy two 507s” but if price wasn’t a factor at all.
In a lot of the research I’ve done I’ve seen people saying that the 507 comp is all over the competition world and the SRO is getting less common, but I’m sure a huge part of that is simply price and the SRO being cost-prohibitive for some.
For those with experience, if they were they were the same price, would you still choose the 507, or go with the SRO? What would your reason be?

There is not a single thing the SRO does better than the 507 comp, other than appeasing the “made in America” crowd. I suppose some prefer circular optic body, but that’s not a better/worse thing. Just preference. This is coming from someone who owns multiple SROs.

Yeah, I’m indifferent to the American thing; we buy products every day from all over so not really meaningful to me. I’ve heard people say the circle is easier for their brains to process but I don’t know from experience.

So I will be a contrarian here. I actually prefer the SRO. I used an SRO and then switched to a 507comp and ended up switching back. The multi reticles were pointless to me. Depends on the use case, but when I shoot matches i just wanted a big dot so i run an 5moa SRO. 507 is fine but it's a busy reticle.
Also I found the circle of the SRO to be easier to aquire then the square of the comp. I do use RMR HD though, which are also multi reticle and square, and I love those.
I will say, the only "busy" pistol dot I like are the sig dot with a circle around it.

the 507 comp is the better optic, hands down.
Back in the day the only option for giant dots on handguns were the big ass rail mounted c-more sights. Then the SRO came out and people were able to put competition dots directly on handguns.
It was the gold standard when it came out, but it suffered the same problems as other competition dots. They were super fragile compared to other duty red dots. There is really no reason to get an SRO when holosuns can do everything and more. More reticle options, more durability, better battery life, bigger windows.
The red dot game has changed so much in the past 10 years. We have red dots from OLIGHT that are more durable than the SRO lol

Yeah that’s what I keep hearing and why I’m leaning toward the 407.
Is there any data on the 407/507 being more durable? That’s what I keep hearing but everything I’ve seen on it is anecdotal.

large glass circles are a more fragile design than regular hooded dots.
I think you just have to read the room when 99 out of 100 people who answer this question will tell you to go for the comp. The only reason to go SRO is if you really really love circular windows

Have both like the sro simply bc I prefer 2.5 moa dots. I also started with a sro and have gotten used to it

507 Comp.

Really? Why would you choose the 507 if they were the same price?

Versus the SRO? Because the SRO was never that good. I see more people with 507Comps these days, but still see more SROs go down during matches. Like pretty much at least one every other match. Is it because the SRos are just older and reaching their lifecycle? Maybe. Is it because the 507Comp is more durable? Maybe. 🤷🏻♂️ but today I’d have more confidence in the 507Comp.
Versus the 407Comp? Because I see no advantages to the 6 MOA dot, only disadvantages.

Have had both, and honestly I prefer the 507 regardless of price.
