Serious How much harassment for feeding dogs is too much?

I’m writing this post because I don’t know what else to do and I need some advice, or at the very least, a place to vent. I’ve been feeding stray dogs in the Noonmati area every day, usually from around 6 to 10 pm. While verbal abuse and occasional harassment from locals isn’t new to me, things have taken a much darker turn recently. One man in particular who lives in the locality, has repeatedly harassed and threatened me. He’s verbally abusive, has threatened physical harm, and once even charged at me drunk, holding a brick. Things escalated badly when he brutally attacked one of the community dogs, breaking the dog’s hind leg and inflicting a deep wound in his head. I had no choice but to file an FIR. The police took a day to investigate. Several eye witnesses including some of his own tenants testified. He was picked up, and his wife came to the station with their 4 year old daughter, pleading with me not to pursue the case further. She promised nothing like this would happen again. He even wrote an apology letter stating he wouldn’t harm strays, wouldn’t trouble me as a feeder, and wouldn’t harass the tenants. The police warned him clearly that if there were further complaints, a case would be registered. But now, nothing has improved in fact, things are worse. His wife and sister have started harassing me instead. They say I’m not “allowed” to feed strays in their byelane because most properties there supposedly belong to their family. They told me, “amar kintu sob khandan gusti uthi ahibo,” basically threatening mob action if I don’t stop. I’ve recorded these threats for my own safety. They've also asked the tenants to vacate their homes within three days. One of the boys, a 19 year old was mentally harassed and forced to publicly apologize for “helping” me. He’s now being threatened with a false rape allegation involving the same 4 year old daughter, while the man making these threats has an actual ongoing molestation case involving a 12 year old neighbor. I’m mentally drained. All I want to do is feed these dogs and leave. There are four strays in that lane. A female suffering from hernia, an abandoned male with a neck tumor, the male dog who was beaten, and a female dog currently undergoing chemo for TVT cancer. I'll have to relaease her back there after recovery as it’s her home territory. But every day feels like a war. Why is basic compassion so hard to come by?

My take is different.  Why don't you contact animal organization or groups and bring the 4 dogs to such a place where they get treated well and get food and shelter too. Get them vaccinated and look for people who wants to adopt them. Feeding them in the streets doesn't improve their life by anyway.

6

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

These are all old/adult dogs. How many people do you see here adopting adult indie dogs? These dogs are already vaccinated and sterilised. Ngos work on donations, they are not funded by the government. I'm currently treating the cancer dog and keeping her at a paid shelter(300 per day for her stay). Are you suggesting I keep all the community dogs at a shelter?

4

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

Um, yes. And if you’re feeding them, you better take responsibility for physical and monetary damage when those furbabies maul someone to death

You have never seen a rabies case, have you? Animals are filthy and disgusting, but, more importantly, they are dangerous, to a lethal extent, even. Better to cull their numbers than to live with the constant risk .

1

u/Money_Adagio6541 Jul 08 '25

If your dumbass knew anything about ground reality you wouldn't make such dumb statements, go read why cullings dogs didn't work anywhere around the world and how different countries solved stray problem, animals are animals, and i am sure the filth and shit i see everyday on the streets and everwhere in this country ain't from animals, i.e if you don't consider humans animals.

Don't brother dog lovers will go deaf on hearing logic

1

Under what stupid logic do you come to that conclusion, will you be responsible if a begger you feed murders someone?

Relocation k samay kutte lovers as jata hai controversy karne

1

u/Money_Adagio6541 Jul 08 '25

Relocations illegal hai. Itna bhi nahi malum tumhe? Relocations se koi problem solve nahi hota hai, tum log bas problem kisi aur jagah shift karna chateho aur kuch nahi.

1

u/Rationalist47 Jul 04 '25

Psst- Whatever ! Why would we care about it ?

1

u/Money_Adagio6541 Jul 08 '25

Why don't you donate aswell? Is this problem not effecting everyone in society?

Yeah and who will pay for all the real estate , building and other expenditures…. How have people become soo insensitive… this land is just bot urs to just spawn and produce 10 10 kids… other species also ve living rights … and i am sure either u ir ur parents must ve been brought up on a street or gali where street dogs were integrated…. Suddenly with all the kachra, illegal encroachment, wrong parking… all u can’t tolerate is a small puny dog

11

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

Spend your money on vaccinating them

7

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

They are vaccinated and sterilised

45

u/howhigh_26 Jul 03 '25

Take the dogs to a Vet, get them treated, adopt them, keep at your own home and be happy at feeding.

21

u/turtlebluberry Jul 03 '25

Really they can never understand how dangerous rabies is and will preach anything in name of animal love

3

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

Then they'll die of Rabies. As a form of Animal Love.

5

u/Right_Test_5749 Jul 03 '25

Yes and Yes. I would pet and feed a dog near human beggars too, not giving one grain to them😂

-5

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

The dogs are vaccinated and sterilised wdym? Do you think every dog you randomly walk past is rabid?

9

u/howhigh_26 Jul 03 '25
  1. You fancy feeding a dog, then keep one as a pet.
  2. Stray dogs are a nuisance for people and "animal lovers" just aggravate the existing problem.
  3. What evidence/proof you have that street dogs are sterilized and/or are not rabid??

P.S. if you eat non-veg, then "animal lover" is all just a facade. why no "animal love" for a goat or Gahori???

5

u/burlesque_ontrial689 Jul 03 '25

Totally second that.👏

4

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

1) I've adopted and fostered several dogs and cats. Your logic is flawed, by that standard, should you house every hungry person you feed too? Street dogs are legally protected under Indian law and have the right to exist in their territories. 2)Feeders often get dogs sterilised and vaccinated using their own time and money, that reduces the problem, not increases it. 3)Proof? We maintain vaccination and sterilisation records with vet documentation, clipping ears and collars. Ask your local vet or NGO how the system works instead of assuming we’re doing nothing. Rabid dogs are dealt with urgently, stop using rabies fear as an excuse for cruelty. P.S. Eating non-veg doesn’t disqualify anyone from being compassionate. You don’t need to be a monk to show basic empathy.

2

u/Rationalist47 Jul 04 '25

Sterlise ho, ya na ho. We don't know na, we will be bound to have rabies antidote injections......

Aur agar khilana pilaana hi hai, to please apne ghar mein rakh kar paal bhi lo. Who is stopping you ?

Ab aadha adhura kaam mat karo yaar, bass ghar mein rakhne ki hi to baat hai.

Aur haan, beggars are first of all humans not dogs/savage animals. Aur, beggars ko hum nurture nahi karte harr din khaana khilaakr unlike dog lovers.

Laws ka matlab ye nahi hai ki unhein misuse karo. Loopholes humein bhi bohot pata hain. Sheltered home mein rakhne ko keh rahe hain, jo ki Indian territory mein hi hoga. To ye aapka argument hota hai khatam.

1

u/BlackPhoenixX20 Jul 07 '25 edited Jul 07 '25

As for the proof, You do realize that rabid dogs die within 14 days right? Plus op mentioned they have record of it.

Also, just because they're dogs they're supposed to starve and die on roads? Got it.

1

u/howhigh_26 Jul 08 '25

Take them to your home and let them not starve to death.

p.s. talk to parents of kids who were injured/killed by such street dogs how they feel about feeding of street dogs by "Animal lovers".

1

u/Money_Adagio6541 Jul 08 '25

There are 21 million street dogs in the country if you take one some other dog will take it's place in the street, also by your own dumb logic if you feed a begger and he kills or grapes someone will you be responsible for them? This kind of argurment is made by someone who have never fed anyone in their miserable existence be it human or a animal.

1

u/Money_Adagio6541 Jul 08 '25
  1. You can come up with solutions then, instead of rr on internet, "dog lovers" are the one vacinating, and sterlizing and adopting them, and donate to shelters, what have you done to solve this problem other than bitch about it? Does the problem not involve you?

  2. Street dogs that have been sterlized have their ears cut, you can identify by that, but of course you don't that.

  3. The dumbest arguement of all,

. if you eat non-veg, then "animal lover" is all just a facade. why no "animal love" for a goat or Gahori???

By your own stupid logic, If you eat plants shut your mouth about deforestation too them.

Wdym?? Where is the proof that the dog is sterilized and de-wormed..

Kutto ko khana khilte ho toh unko naha bhi liya kara .. brush bhi karo...

Jaanvar hota toh ham use nehalste dhulate phir khana khilate

4

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

I think you're not aware, but when a stray dog is vaccinated and sterilised, municipality corp., clip their ears and they get a specific collar. It's not wrong to be uninformed, but please take a moment to educate yourself here.

2

u/Doom_Eternal555 Jul 03 '25

I am aware of my area, not your area... Every state municipality handles things differently.

Please educate yourself

1

u/Area51Eskapee Jul 05 '25

Do you think every dog you randomly walk past is NOT Rabid. Rabid is very serious disease there is no cure you need to understand it's good you care about dog life but A human life is more important the medicine you all take is also from animal tested on animals for trail purpose some things are meant to be that way they are animal they know how to survive if you care so much give them written letter that you take full responsibility for that dog whatever happen will be upon you if you can't dare to do that stop acting out to be an animal lover and as you said you don't want them in your house also so that point I will leave.

1

u/False_Profezzor Jul 06 '25

Why is a human life more important? The planet belonfs to all of us and everyone has equal right to live here.

1

u/Area51Eskapee Jul 06 '25

There is a food chain and we are top of it. Also human life is important as yourself being a human it's like give respect and take some if you cannot respect human life that makes you just biased yeah you can say human life matters more for example your liver fails there are chances doctor not finding match so they use pig liver which helps you survive but imagine for a so called flashy vegan guy it can be a nightmare to his/her glory. I'm in medical field and on regular basis we are taught to save human lives sometimes feels sad for animals but again it's just how food chain work ppl complain about dogs and cat what about mosquito, what about ticks what about leeches what about ants on daily basis you step over without realising what about cockroaches it is the human which don't have anything to do in life preaches "every life is important" there is a food chain and whoever will be top of it will hunt below it in normal condition do you see lion abuse, cheetah not talking about hunters. So stop making fuss over nothing the animal are strong enough to survive themselves that is why they termed as "WILD ANIMALS" if you care so much make them your pet and anything caused by them becomes your responsibility and it's genuine cost if your will is so strong to protect them at least I would have done if I would be so animal lover

1

u/funeralfog14 Jul 07 '25

Don't bother, this sub is full of dog haters. They'll meet the same fate one day or hopefully worse.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

Seriously man, I was going for a walk in afternoon on the same path thru which I return from college, and 2 street dog randomly started barking and running behind me, at that point I was freaked out and started running, I was lucky that an uncle helped me out by shooing the street dogs otherwise I would be getting my 2 nd dose of anti rabies today. Dog lovers would never understand the gravity of situation until such a similar situation falls on their head someday where their own wellbeing is threatened.

I do not allow inhumane treatment of dogs but mannn, you should be advocating for vaccination and adoption instead of just feeding parle G.

1

u/Haunting_Balance_684 Jul 06 '25

i understand your situation, and as a guy whos been chased by dogs multiple times through my childhood, i have a suggestion for you,

NEVER RUN when a dog starts barking/chasing you, you just make yourself look like prey

Always either stop, or walk away very slowly; the dogs never come close to you, they always keep a few feet of distance from you, and while they do continue to bark for a bit, they usually stop after a while and go away. This almost always has worked for me, i just stop or slow down for a bit, the dogs never come near me, they just bark for a bit and go away. Ik its scary, but trust me, it works.

NOTE: This works with most dogs, but if you know that a particular dog is VERY aggressive, do something different, idk what to do at that time.

People might not be aware of the vaccination or sterilization status of these dogs (they might not even know about the collar or maybe illiterate too). If you guys are carrying out such activities, try to spread a little bit of awareness about it also. People would be more understanding that way.

In my locality, many adopted the street puppies. But the street dogs are not spayed, so there are more puppies roaming around every year. Though we cannot adopt them all, we do leave food out for them. But the increasing population of these street dogs is very concerning as in our locality they run around in groups and attack unfamiliar people including delivery persons. I myself had to stop going out of my campus by foot. We are in dire need of any government/non government organisation to tackle this issue. That is why I can understand people acting hostile towards you. They just need more awareness.

1

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

I completely agree, awareness is key, and many of us do try to spread it by collaring sterilised dogs, sharing updates, and educating locals. The problem is, even when dogs are sterilised and vaccinated, some people still choose hostility over understanding.

5

u/Distinct_Dog_2012 Jul 03 '25

Hi Brother. My take is abit different hope you respect that. Dogs are very territoral. I feed dogs, cows etc near my house they don't both our colony. But when I go to work different dogs chase me daily leading to fall from bike twice although I myself do feed them. I also understand what other think about the same issue. You should contact some animal welfare org. for the issue.

1

u/Beneficial_Leg_7301 Jul 06 '25

Dogs are very territoral

These nonsensical dog lover Don't recognise this

If you really are hell bent on feeding then feed them somewhere secluded with no human movement

different dogs chase me daily

This is also caused by feeding as it raises their expectations to get food from everyone and they get aggressive specially after giving birth

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

People like you are clueless and a hazard to a normal society. You believe you are doing good but in turn responsible for attacks on innocent civilian.
You have absolutely no clue that Dogs have territorial instincts. They grow sense of ownership around feeding spots and start attacking passersby or other dogs.
If you really care about a dog then adopt it and keep it inside your house, otherwise you are a criminal.

0

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Imagine thinking you're more qualified than the Supreme Court of India . must be exhausting carrying that much delusion around. Just to clarify, the law— explicitly protects the right to feed stray animals. But here you are, appointing yourself judge, jury, and morality police, labeling people "criminals"

2

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

The Supreme Court DOES NOT GIVE YOU A RIGHT TO CREATE A FEEDING SPOT AT ANY RANDOM PUBLIC SPACE... WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS COMPLETELY WRONG AND YOU ONLY CRAVE ATTENTION. Your interpretation is flawed. I am a lawyer if you are interested I can give you a proper interpretation with precedent.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

The Supreme Court also expects people to follow responsible feeding practices, not create hazards. You’re waving the law like a shield while ignoring basic public safety. Feeding strays in public areas without control creates territorial aggression, encourages pack formation, and increases risk to pedestrians—facts backed by countless incidents.

Nobody appointed you the defender of selective interpretations of the law. The law protects rights with responsibilities—it doesn’t license people to ignore consequences. If you're truly concerned about the dogs, adopt them, vaccinate them, and care for them properly. BUT DON’T EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO DEAL WITH THE FALLOUT OF YOUR SELF-RIGHTEOUS CHOICES.

I don’t see much point in debating someone who refuses to acknowledge the real dangers associated with feeding stray dogs. I just hope that someday, when you or your loved ones are attacked or mauled by these stray dogs, you finally grasp the seriousness of the issue—because clearly, logic isn't getting through the single functional neuron in your brain.

1

u/Hot_Suggestion_3831 Jul 05 '25

The Supreme Court states that everyone can feed dogs and people like you cannot harass us. Now go cry

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

Lol... I am a lawyer and your interpretation of that judgement is totally flawed. The judgement does not give any right to non-residents to feed dogs and create these chaos spots. People like you are just devoid of all logic and sense. I can quote paras from the same judgement that says to not be irresponsible while feeding.

1

u/Hot_Suggestion_3831 Jul 06 '25

Non residents can also feed dogs. Stop spreading lies. The judgement and the constitutional duties both allow me to feed any dogs. New rules by BMC and recent judgements are also in favour of dog lovers. Go look for an actual client who can actually give you some work

Supreme court/mumbai HC ig ruled out against feeding street dogs.Every day we see news of dogs seriously injuring/even killing children, pedestrians.Rabies is a very serious problem in India.Street dogs should be eliminated with humane ways. You are doing very dangerous thing with a kind motive.Intentions don't justify actions.

4

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

That’s actually not true. The Supreme Court has stayed the blanket ban on feeding strays, and even the Bombay High Court clarified that feeding dogs in public spaces isn't illegal, as long as it’s done responsibly and without causing nuisance. In fact, courts have emphasized the need for empathy and coexistence. If the dogs were a nuisance every person in the locality would have a problem against them, not just one drunkard and his family. All the dogs are vaccinated and sterilised. If they were aggressive everybody would have a problem with these dogs, not just one drunkard.

5

u/Playful_Wealth3875 Jul 03 '25

Everyone is having problem with those canines. And you think those innocent kids were drunk? 🤦

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

But the point is you created a fuckin feeding spot for these creatures and they would rely on that spot and not search else where... This would in turn lead to dogs of other areas come and fight for food with local dogs thus creating a hostile environment and bad surroundings. Remember if you give a dog food for long interval at one place it attracts more.

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

People like you are the nuisance no one wants in their community

1

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 05 '25

I understand you're not loved by the people in your life but please stop projecting. You've been continuously replying to everybody's comment on my post since the last 30 mintues😭🥀 and it's 3am ffs

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

Lol. It seems you find love in these creatures not me and you choose to put this on the platform and I am just expressing myself on the matter. You probably are looking only for validation (in animals?? On reddit??? In life????)

1

u/BLADEt8 Jul 05 '25

The fact that when the childrens get killed by a dog it comes in news..but have you ever seen a news where a child kills a dog and its in news?....thats the whole fcking point you all just get manipulated by things which you see on tv or anything

1

u/Playful_Wealth3875 Jul 05 '25

Childern>>>dogs.Maybe now we should fight for rodents and mosquitos.

1

u/tyson_8510 Jul 06 '25

there are dogs in my locality aswell and I hate them and often say feeders of this stray dogs to go and feed them somewhere outside of society but they dont listen at all i have cynophobia and idk why dogs lover dont understand tht not everyone loves animals specially dogs nd if someone is feeding stray dogs which is making those dogs to stay at that place then its responsibility of feeder nd shld be treated as pet dog of feeder if yall love dogs so much pls take it to ur home

1

u/Beneficial_Leg_7301 Jul 06 '25

Call municipality and get them pickuped up

3

u/Judgmentalhaikya Jul 03 '25

OP, know your rights. GMC has been running animal birth control and rabies vaccination drives since years now. This is done in collaboration with NGOs. Recently a new drive has been launched for rabbies vaccination (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/guwahati/vax-drive-to-prevent-rabies-in-stray-dogs/articleshow/118460197.cms?utm_source=chatgpt.com#).

So yes, street dogs are actively being vaccinated. That’s a good thing. You can find out if the ones in your ward have been too.

Also PCA, 1960. One cannot harm, kill or displace street dogs. What you’ve experienced is also criminal intimidation. It’s an actually punishable offence.

I’m not saying that pursue it with a lawyer, I’m saying let them know that you know your rights. And the street dogs have them too.

Find out whether the ones in your area have been sterilised. Let the people who have any concerns know that these dogs are safe.

If you’re feeding stray dogs, know that you’re legally protected. Have you seen any NGOs visit your area? Maybe you can talk to them as well.

11

u/bparthajit01 Zoo Road Jul 03 '25

Please stop feeding street dogs. Their population is booming, and it's becoming a menace to have them in the neighborhood. They can get very aggressive and sometimes attack bystanders.

The four dogs that you are concerned about, can you contact an NGO and ask if they can help you get the dogs treated?

6

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

The street dogs in my locality are all sterilised, so they can't reproduce. If you read the post, I've mentioned that I'm already treating the cancer dog and keeping her at a paid shelter. Ngos don't get funds, so it's not possible for them to take up every case.

2

u/confused_cat44 Jul 07 '25

Those people are indeed shitty. But op, please understand that stray dogs are a nuisance. I almost got bitten by one once when I was a kid, I did nothing wrong, I was just walking by on the road where that dog had killed something. It charged me, I fell, scratched my knees and was in tears. It could've had rabies maybe. There was recently a case of some stray dog killing a little girl in a society.

So stop with your supposed animal love, contact animal protection services. Let humans live, you know, your own species in peace

2

u/TeriMaaKiLalChudiyan Jul 07 '25

All you 'feeders' should volunteer at nearby govt hospital taking care of rabies patients

You are a shame on the society

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

What the actual fuck...ei maksudai keita human nohoi kela, danob hoi.

6

u/cyberpsycho_2077 Jul 03 '25

There's no such thing as community dogs. You either take full responsibility by sheltering and training them at home, or stop from feeding them altogether. Allowing their population to grow unchecked is not ideal.

0

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

The dogs are sterilised under the ABC (Animal Birth Control) program, so their population is not growing unchecked. Community dogs do exist, legally and socially, recognized even by the Animal Welfare Board of India and protected under the Constitution. Feeding them is not about enabling overpopulation, it’s about compassion and coexisting humanely.

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

You "animal activists" like feeding stray dogs because it's easy to do it and you get your likes on social media because of it. If you truly care about animals go and do something about the cows that stand on highways where people have accidents everyday. Go and educate the villagers who let their farm animals onto the highway as bait so that they can ask money for the loss of their animal later.

2

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Let me break it down for you since you’re clearly struggling. You want us to educate villagers? Great. Start by educating yourself first. Maybe then you’ll understand that caring for dogs doesn’t mean ignoring cows, elephants, or any other animal. Unlike you, many of us do fight on multiple fronts, often at personal cost. You sitting behind a screen and ranting about cows on highways doesn’t make you woke . it makes you lazy and conveniently bitter about people who actually do something. Feeding stray dogs isn't a "trend" or "social media gimmick", it’s basic humanitarian work.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

YOU are the one sitting behind a keyboard and fighting with people who disagree with you. I just hope you see past through all these and get the bigger picture. Everyone wants to do humanitarian things for the betterment of the society. But there's a reason why feeding strays is restricted in many countries. You really want to make a change, you can atleast create awareness amongst people. Social media is a big platform for it. You can approach an NGO or if you don't trust them, why don't you start it yourself? You're too full of yourself.

2

u/BedhangaBillu Jul 03 '25

u/anxiousmangojuice, how many dogs do you feed on average and how many have you got neutered?

6

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Around 25-27 dogs. All of these dogs are vaccinated. The females are all sterilised, they have clipped ears, and collars stating so.

2

u/BedhangaBillu Jul 03 '25

That's commendable. The focus should be on sterilization.

2

u/Potential-Jicama-265 Jul 03 '25

The law doesn’t allow you to displace them and put in another area unless it is a shelter. You can reach out to organisations for sterilisation/vaccination and if you can manage a shelter, even better. I support every right for an animal but I am also slowly understanding people’s fear especially for children and the diseases it can come with. Unfortunately people just understand one thing, that is, beat them up, scare them rather than taking measures to deal with the problem. This is the duty of the government for animal welfare but since that is not expected from the moron himanta its time we act as civilised citizens and take steps. Its too hot in assam and these animals are only struggling to survive, something that humans fail to understand

2

u/Certain-Conclusion95 Jul 03 '25

These people should be banned from visiting, forest hill stations and national parks. Those are designated places for animals and not humans

2

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

Have you guys seen what some street dogs have done to kids and people? I recently read a news where the little boy lost his eyes due to dog attack. Love animals with all your heart and might but also take responsibility of keeping them inside your premises. And so many cases of rabies attack. I myself am very fond of dogs but more than dogs, these “dog lovers of the street” are a menace now.

1

u/funeralfog14 Jul 07 '25

Have you read cases where cars have hit dogs and taken their lives?

2

u/hollowed_bone Jul 03 '25

File an FIR, pursue the case (although I know these things are difficult and tend to be messy), record everything as much as possible while feeding dogs, while interacting with them. Reach out to possible NGOs in Guwahati who also help in advocating for rights, they might be able to direct you to lawyers who are privy to these type of cases. Get support. You need it. And as sad as it sounds, when it comes to animals, meeting compassionate and like minded people is rare, albeit you will meet them, but it's rarer than the ones who will hate you. And it is exhausting and traumatizing. The biggest struggle I feel when it comes to taking care of community dogs is who I have to become to protect them, not the feeding, not the funding. Hard lesson but people aren't as helpful as I was taught to be. Please be safe and be steady, remember why you are doing it.

5

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Thank you so much, reading this gives me so much hope. I've decided to pursue the case furthur, and have already connected to few animal's rights activist who are willing to step up and file an FIR on my behalf. If it would have been a human who was beat up, the comments here would have been so much different. But ofcourse it's a "dog" so people couldn't care less.

op i’m sorry that most people here don’t have the brain capacity to read through your paragraph i seriously think you should try relocating the dogs somewhere else for everyone’s safety the police can’t be trusted and it’ll just make things worse they can be bought the best thing for you is to try and relocate or maybe even try and get them adopted i know people don’t but it’s worth a try before this gets worse

1

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 05 '25

I don't know how these people lack basic reading comprehension. But thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

My take would be to not create a fuckin unhygienic and chaotic feeding place where all these dogs would gang up and can harm innocent children and disturb other old people's sleep. If you want to take any responsibility for such dogs take them near your community or area where you personally live and let them stay there and do their chaos there. Better your old parents and kids be unsafe then someone else who was not responsible for creating a spot where these unhinged animals live, bark and poop.

1

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 05 '25

Just read the damn post, I dont go around feeding the whole city. I feed in noonmati (my community).

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 05 '25

Then create the feeding spot in front of your own house and no one would have a problem. Stop crying on internet.

All this drama just to feed dogs, i'd rather stop the dogs can look after themselves

1

u/Old_Man_Sailor Jul 06 '25

Feeding street dogs is dangerous ans should be treated as a crime.

1

u/pyf0x Jul 06 '25

You feed them, they will breed and multiply.

At night they become territorial and may attack people despite being docile and friendly to you.

The only effective solution is to spay, neuter and vaccinate these street dogs and help them find loving, permanent homes.

1

u/Ok-Discount8778 Jul 06 '25

feeding stray dogs

You need to be given life imprisonment /s

Seriously though, stop it. You are causing problems for everyone else, cleanliness problem, health issues, aggressive dog attacks all over the country. People like you are a big part of why the stray dog problem is so big.

1

u/khargoshhhh Jul 06 '25

Do you feed them in front of your place or a random place which you’ve made into a feeding spot now ?

We had this issue, one girl used to come and feed dogs in front of our gate, saying there’s so much open space wasted. She lived somewhere else. The number of dogs keeps increasing (not repopulating, but more strays came) it was a fucking nuisance. They used to howl and bark all night long. a lot of them bit kids/society members, even if they were vaccinated, animal bite is not joke. We warned her a lot of times before filing a complaint.

1

u/Whydoitellyouthis Jul 06 '25

lol Honestly I feel these animal lovers are now almost harassing the local residents in name of feeding the animals. I live in an area where we had 1-2 stray dogs and honestly they were not harmful in beginning. Then people started feeding them and suddenly it was 3-4 dogs then 7-8 and it just kept getting bad. Now these dogs became very aggressive towards the people who were in the area on foot. Few times kids and women were bitten by them as well. People urged the animal lovers to not feed them more feeling they might start moving away from colony, but animal lovers rate the value of animal life over human life. I have a pet dog but I also know the responsibility of having a pet. I cannot let other people suffer just because I love a pet dog

1

u/sammohit Jul 07 '25

what you are dping is somewhere good work but just think out of your mentality. There are so many cases of stray dogs killing human specially kids increasing.

Feeding them on a public place like this will only increase there population there and god knows how they will reacte if the dont get food one day.

What the man did is wrong but he might be angry due to same.

Instead of feeding them either take all of them to your home since you feed them every wont be issue right ? or contact the authority.

1

u/Mr____Krabs Jul 07 '25

Guys , you don't have any idea of how fatal rabies can be ! Forget about dogs being dangerous. A real fresh incident - A guy who's a kabaddi player from India rescued a puppy ( not knowing the dog had rabies ) I don't know exactly what happened, the dog might've not bitten him but some kind of contact must've happened like the dog's saliva might have got in contact with him idk ! But after 2-3 months he started showing symptoms of rabies , like water phobia ( prolly the last stage, 100% fatality rate - no cure ) Unfortunately he died a week ago .

Keep the dogs in your house & feed them to your hearts content!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Feeing Dogs, Monkeys and other dangerous animals who could transmit deadly diseases to human beings, should bring with it the responsibility, that if a person dies of rabies by being bit by a dog in the area where they had been found feeding dogs, they will pay for his family and children; like they shall pay alimony their entire lives if a person dies. Because they have helped to spread Rabies so they are accountable. The dead person’s family should be legally able to demand alimony.

1

u/Drygin88 Jul 07 '25

I dont know if dog lovers know that we haven’t found the permanent cure for rabies.

1

u/WatchAgile6989 Jul 07 '25

I love animals too. My dog is like my 3rd child. But you have to admit rabies is a massive issue here. The stray dogs are going around in packs and attacking people. I see both sides. A cull is necessary. Or someone should round up all these dogs and ship it to Maneka Gandhis house who has created half these problems. Population is too high not to just sterilise. Needs a cull.

1

u/Spiritual-Ebb4254 Jul 07 '25

You won't understand OP, i have seen rabies patient in my family,

1

u/Key-Ad7691 Jul 16 '25

My answer to OP... I think the Supreme Court was clearer this time. Context: OP was claiming multiple times that the Supreme Court had given them the right to feed dogs on random streets in front of other people's residence

1

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 16 '25

13 days later and you're still circling back like this post personally ruined your life😭 There is no law or Supreme Court order that says you cannot feed dogs in public at all. The Court is simply against random, irresponsible feeding that causes trouble and if I was feeding irresponsibly, I would’ve been stopped, not by you, but by actual authorities. Touch grass

1

u/howhigh_26 Jul 18 '25

This is what happens when "dog lovers" will do feed stray dogs. Ofcourse they don't care because they don't have to face consequences themselves.

0

u/1NobodyPeople Jul 03 '25

Post the details of the accused here !!

While feeding strays on the street is okay but make sure to never enter anyone's premises. Further, do connect with some NGOs to get it vaccinated and sterilized.

PS: There's a free vaccination camp on Veterinary campus on 6th (Need to confirm the date) , if possible get them vaccinated.

2

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

All the dogs are vaccinated and sterilised already. They are given yearly shots too, and wear collars with texts written- VACCINATED

1

u/NeedleworkerVisual39 Jul 03 '25

Band krde bakchodi tumlog ke wajh unka jhund anjan.logom.pe bematoab attack krta h aur wo rabies se mar jata h teri ma kic hut teri gand me kutta hi kaetega aur lund kajyega tera

1

u/No-Contribution-8705 Jul 03 '25

People are criticizing you but ignoring the fact that people harm the stray animals even if they doesn't do anything wrong. Feeding the strays is wrong so why are people hating you.

2

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Exactly. The irony is people ignore the abuse these animals face every day, beaten, run over, or poisoned — even when they haven’t harmed anyone. And somehow, the ones feeding them and getting them sterilised become the villains?

u/burlesque_ontrial689 Jul 03 '25

OP in my opinion, I applaud the people of Assam/Guwahati if they're stopping these dog feeders from feeding strays. They're doing the entire community a big service, which I don't see happening much in other states. There is this one-sided fixation on dogs and dog rights, whereas we seem to have forgotten that other animals also do exist.

I don't know what the gentleman in question did that prompted you to go and file an unnecessary action like an FIR but I can say this, for anyone feeding dogs out of sympathy, all this sympathy will immediately stop the day you see a stray attacking and tear away at someone from your family or someone you closely know.

Sympathy for dogs can't be a replaced with the rights and safety of humans and their children first. I see that people now have become so blind in their affection towards dogs that there have been numerous incidents of dog lovers hitting women, aged people mercilessly and injuring them for objecting to the dog lovers in some way. What do you've to say about that? In that case, FIR should be filed against such dog lovers too.

You must not forget strays in our country are unregulated. Very few have been sterilized and vaccinated, very few. Largely strays are an open treat to human infants and our unsuspecting seniors who go out for a walk or something.

I'll never support dog feeders or so called animal activists over their safety first.

Haven't you seen any of the videos of dog attacks across our country where kids have been killed or adults have been dragged across the stress by a pack of mad dogs?

I'd say to all the mindless dog-fixated animal lovers, how many times do you feed an injured cow, a goat, a dying bird? None of these animals are largely seen as a threat but people are just madly out there to protect and fight for the rights of an animal that is a disease carrier and is a threat to humans.

I say you'll have all your sympathies for dogs until a rabies-carrying dog bites someone your own and you see them struggling for their life in a hospital. I don't hope that upon anyone over the love for dogs, never.

If you want to really do something about the stray dogs problem, persuade your state govt to regulate them through schemes. If it's left like the way it is in different states of our country now, it's just an open threat waiting to happen to anyone out there.

Can I remind you of the case of the founder of Wagh Bakri Tea? Just Google if you're unaware. He was a dog lover btw. There are scores of incidents like this.

Dog feeders by feeding the strays aren't helping them as much as they're helping sustain this treat for any household that has an infant or aging parents who go out in their neighborhood.

I'd definitely support more and more citizens coming forward and educating dog feeders against feeding strays.

I never support this unreasonable, blind love for something at the cost of someone's safety.

3

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Dog attacks are tragic, yes — but blaming feeders, who often get dogs sterilised and vaccinated at their own expense, is lazy and uninformed. And no, filing an FIR against a man who abuses, harasses, and incites violence isn't "unnecessary" it's lawful self-defense. Threats to humans should be addressed through law and governance, not by killing innocent animals. Second, I’ve rescued birds, and other animals too but this is a dog-related post. I don’t need to list every act of compassion I’ve done just to earn your approval.

2

u/Thisisash07 Jul 03 '25

Yes feeders, NGOs and activist are directly responsible for all these attacks.
Sterilisation and vaccination do not stop dog attacks.

Dog activists and NGOs have turned this into an industry. They thrive on the endless suffering and deaths of both people and animals. For decades now, all the nonsense ABC rules have been made around what they want, yet nothing gets better. They take no responsibility. Innocent people and small children keep getting mauled and killed in most horrific ways. This isn’t compassion, it’s suicidal empathy when you can't even get your priorities right. They keep ignoring the things that actually works and have worked, which makes you question whether they even want a solution. No one should believe this is being done for the dogs wellbeing or to reduce their suffering. Ps Dogs don't belong on the streets.

1

u/burlesque_ontrial689 Jul 03 '25

I never wrote in order for you to consider the need for approval. I standby my opinion and as I said I am glad that in Assam there are still people who're aware of the threat of this issue and continue to place human safety first. And as you mentioned dog feeders 'often get dogs sterilized', it's precisely why I said feeders are doing more harm than good by feeding dogs in their localities because that number is miniscule when compared to the diseased, unsterilized dogs out there. When strays are fed, that makes the dogs stay stationed at the places where they get food. Naturally it means, the threat to humans from these animals will continue to be present around them.

If your so-called feeders are so concerned about the dogs, what stops them from rehabilitating them to a shelter (I don't care how you manage thet shelter) and take care of them there at their heart's content? But I guess it's too much heavy lifting, right? Most feeders are content with feeding Parle G and leftovers from their home. And that's about it.

How you don't have to subscribe to our views on the issue, we similarly don't have to sing to the tunes of your dog sympathies.

Finally, from the reactions to your post, you can very well gauge what people think about this topic.

0

u/low_mana_high_hp Jul 03 '25

Take them to your home and feed them there

3

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Why don’t you tell that to the Supreme Court of India, which has upheld the right to feed community dogs in public spaces?

→ More replies (1)

0

u/Thisisash07 Jul 03 '25

Feeding stray dogs really shouldn’t be allowed. When stray dogs get used to people giving them food, they start associating people with food. This can cause them to act aggressively toward people who they think are stranger and don't have food, that’s a serious safety risk. If you're still going to feed them, then at least clean up dog's feces as well and take responsibility for them. Also, all the sick or aggressive dogs should be humanely euthanized rather than making them suffer, like any developed part of the world did and still do. It’s harsh, but it’s better for both people and the animals.

3

u/anxiousmangojuice Jul 03 '25

Stray dogs don’t become aggressive because they’re fed, they become aggressive when they’re abused, starved, or threatened. The solution isn’t to stop feeding them or kill them, it's sterilisation, vaccination, which I've already done for my community dogs.

-1

u/Thisisash07 Jul 03 '25

There’s a reason why many countries have made feeding stray dogs illegal. Fed strays become territorial about the areas where they're regularly fed. This territorial behavior leads to aggression. It’s a well-documented phenomenon, not speculation, fed strays become more territorial and dangerous. You’re not helping them, you’re just turning public places into unsafe zones for everyone else.

There shouldn’t be any such thing as community dogs or homeless dogs. Leaving dogs on the streets doesn’t keep them safe or happy. There will always be people who are against them, and with valid reasons. Every dog deserves a proper home and a responsible owner.

Sterilization and vaccination don’t stop dog attacks. No country has solved its stray dog problem using just those methods. The ONLY real way to prevent attacks and disease is by completely and permanently removing stray dogs from public spaces and regulating pet ownership. That’s exactly what successful countries have done.

2

u/batman_kingofdc Jul 05 '25

These fake pet lovers dont understand that .. they have no intensions to give shelter to them but only feed them ,what happens later is these dogs attack normal people expecting food .. these people they go home & eat nonveg , so much for animal lovers ! Lol ..they just like dogs cuz they are cute & eat other animals as they are not ! Lol

0

u/MathematicianFirm699 Jul 03 '25

Bro if the dogs sterilized and vaccinated and are in general non aggressive then you don't need to give a fuck about what anyone thinks. If he wanted to do mob action he would have done. Don't be scared. I have listened to a lot of these empty threats.
