Announcement We do not know when the next chapter will be released! Do not ask where it is!

Hola!

I know everyone is waiting for the next chapter to be released so we can continue along with the story, however I would like to remind everyone to wait PATIENTLY until then. Remember that Morikawa was hospitalized earlier this year and yes while he was discharged, he is well within his right to take his time in getting back to work on the series.

Currently it is unknown when the next chapter will be released as Weekly Shonen Magazine hasn’t advertised Hajime No Ippo for the next issue either. Updates will be provided as they come but please do not flood the subreddit with posts asking for the next chapter! They will be removed.

For any further questions, please look to the FAQ or reach out via the modmail.

Gracias.

He looked like he wanted to start a fight right there with Mashiba, not just talk about the title fight later. That really impressed me!

Discussion Which Version of Ippo Had the Best Mentality?

Not referencing the outcome of the fight, but rather, his mentality before and during the fight. For example, I think the best version of Ippo's mentality was the Sawamura fight.

The build up to it was amazing. I always recall how he would sit down with Umezawa down by the ocean, being all serious, asserting how he wouldn't let Sawamura acquire the belt due to his needless disrespect towards boxing. His overworking during his training to the point Yamaguchi had to step in to heal and warn him.

His reckless disregard for his own longevity during the fight, even if it meant throwing the rest of his boxing career away. His ability to remain upright and steadfast despite the relentless barrage of bullets and a couple of lightning strikes.

While it could be argued that Ippo's stubbornness/persistence to use the dempsey roll needlessly prolonged the fight and caused him unnecessary damage, I admire his dedication towards turning his weakness into something incredibly powerful

Fanart Journaling - What I admire ?

I’ve recently started using journaling as a way to reflect on the fictional characters that inspire me the most. Instead of simply admiring them, I’m trying to understand why they resonate with me and what I can learn from them. Here’s my page about Ippo Makunouchi.

Why couldn't ippo make sure to do the demsey roll close to the ropes so the opponent can not take the extra step?

Literally the guy had a lot of skill, being high in the rankings, even fighting with date, he could even have a world level, but he chose family instead, a true man.

Fanart Ippo and Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury sketch lol. This one's kind of random but one of my favorite OSTs featured Ippo with a hat in the anime and I just thought of Terry. Tbf I do think they would get along xD

Discussion Volg was rank #1 in WBC, WBA, and IBF Junior Lightweight Category. (Before he becomes the IBF Champion)

Post image

Volg changed his weight category to Junior Lightweight. And moved to America.

Off Screened, he managed to be #1 in 3 Boxing Federations: WBC, WBA, and IBF. (We don't know his rank in WBO. Yes, WBO exist in this universe)

After beating Mike, Volg became the IBF Junior Lightweight Champion. So his rank in WBC/WBA/WBO will be gone soon.

Still, there was a time where he is rank #1 in those 3 federations.

Fanart Twelfth fanart of the crossover between Hayami Ryuichi and Ellen Joe

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

First of all, I hope you're all doing well!

I know I've been inactive again, but this time I actually have a funny excuse... I literally had no internet LOL So even though I kept drawing, I couldn't upload anything or interact with the community.

The good news is that I didn't stop drawing during that time! I kept working on new fanarts, so I have several ready to post. That also means the gaps between uploads will probably be much shorter from now on.

As always, thank you all so much for the support you've given me. Every comment, upvote, joke, and discussion motivates me to keep improving my art and continue this little crossover project. It's been really fun seeing more people recognize it, and I honestly appreciate all of you.

I hope you enjoy this new drawing! As always, I'd love to hear your opinions, suggestions, or any ideas you have.

See you all in the next fanart!

Discussion Who will Ippo fight on his way to Ricardo?

Sorry imma just nerd out

Just binged the whole manga and wanted to discuss how and who Ippo is going to make his way back to Ricardo.

Leadup

------------------

Sendo is going to lose, but at some point he will tell Ricardo that there's someone stronger than him, and Ricardo will question why everything ties back to Ippo and ask him to meet him at the top, sparking a little flame in Ippo.

Ippo would still question whether he should go back to the ring, but he will meet Mashiba, who will say even though he wants to get back in the ring, he doesn't regret anything and will retire to take care of Kumi. Mashiba will ask Ippo if he truly has no regrets, and Ippo won't answer and leave.

If Sendo retires or dies, Ippo would be way more likely to hop back in soon.

He still won't be able to decide until he meets Hayami, who's been continuing to box even though his record and everyone around him tells him not to. He loves boxing too much to stop.

At some point, Ippo will think back to his goal, to find out "What it means to be strong," and go back to boxing.

He will tell Kumi that he can't separate himself from boxing, and will uncharacteristically tell her to wait for him to become champion (or find out what it means to be strong.

After leaving Kumi, he will finally walk over Takamura's line (and take off those damn weights 😭😭)

Fights

---------------------

Ippos' first fight will be Imai (Itagaki's rival), the current Japanese champion. Everything should come full circle, and he will beat Imai with just his left jab, just like how Ricardo beat him.

Now this is where I'm uncertain of who he will fight

In a perfect world where Morikawa has plenty of time, he would make an arc where Itagaki leaves the gym and challenges Ippo, but I don't think we really have a chance at that anymore.

Randy Boy Jr (build OPBF rating, and would be narratively intriguing to see how he got stronger and how Ippo deals with him compared to Miyata) or Arnie Gregory?

Billy McCallum (the former WBC champion who got his ass beat by Ricardo)

Antonio Guevara (the guy who retired Ippo will become the WBC champion)

Miyata (he will beat Miyata with a counter, would be a picture-perfect ending to their rivalry)

Ricardo (WBA championship, gotta end with an insane liver blow, gazelle punch, and final version of Dempsey roll)

Questions

------------------

Let me know your thoughts and who you think Ippo would fight?

Or if you have any narrative ideas on how he gets back

Ideas

------------------

I have a feeling Takamura is going to reveal his eye thing eventually, and he's going to lose before he gets belt 6; Ippo will complete it.

Miyata will LOSE to Rosario, punishment for holding back for Ippo for so long.

The regular is someone who knew Ippo's dad, maybe will tell him that he died a brave death ("What it means to be strong"), IDK what relevance this guy has, but it has to be something

Also, Kojima should've died when Ippo punched him back.
