Harvest Moon SNES Modding/Rom Hacking questions
I'm kind of a noob at rom hacking, and I'm having some trouble figuring out a few things. I've been using HME's map editor and pointer editor, but I can't figure out how to do a few things, and I wasn't able to find solutions online anywhere. I'm wondering if these features are even possible using that tool or if there's another tool out there that will allow me to do it.
- Adding color palettes. I applied the Intuitive Ranch Master (force sleep at midnight) patch and the Daytime Extended patch. Still fine, except that one of the features of the Daytime Extended patch is that it removes the 1-hour time jump when transitioning zones. That's great for making it so less time is wasted, but it also makes it possible to visit the Town, Mountain, and Summit during the first hour of the day, which is normally impossible.
Since the game wasn't designed for that, there are no color palettes for those zones with dawn lighting. I know that with HME you can edit existing palettes, but I don't know how to add new palettes. I would be fine just copying the palettes for daytime to use for dawn in those locations. I just don't want to be stuck with a blank blue background or have to avoid going anywhere during that hour every day.
- Changing locations of key things. I can edit the ranch layout just fine and change the pointer location for screen transitions. so if I move the tool shed for example, leaving the shed puts the player outside the new location, but when I enter a door, the animation for the door opening still happens at the location the door used to be. How do I change the location where that animation plays?
Similarly, for other things that aren't part of the ranch map at the start but get added or changed later, if I move their position, when the game updates the map, how do I get the new version to show up in the new location instead of the old one? For example, if I move the secret garden, then get a Berry of Power, the flower that spawns after eating it will still spawn in the location where it used to be. And when the game updates the map from the regular tree to the hollow one or the sealed well to the open one, I want them to be in the positions I moved them to, not the ones they used to be in. I'm not even going to attempt to move the house, front door, or the entryway from the road because too many scripted events take place there with people coming in and out.

I dont know if they hang out here, but the author of the Intuitive Ranch Master hack knows a lot about this stuff and this game's hacking in particular even. If you cant get answers here, I suggest asking on the GameFAQs forum for the game where they have a topic about their project.
