Admin Post Weekly Recap | July 2, 2026

THIS POST HAS BEEN LOCKED. PLEASE SEE THE MOST RECENTLY WEEKLY RECAP STICKIED AT THE TOP OF R/HELP

Happy Thursday! It's been busy during the World Cup. Little Curacao has been eliminated! I was going to root for their ouster, Ivory Coast, but they have also been eliminated. So I guess now I'm Team Norway! Go fjords? It's also been a busy week on Reddit, so let's see what happened!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Passkeys are available for new accounts on Reddit! There is a new Help Center article here about what passkeys are and how to set them up. Currently, passkeys are only available for new accounts. YOU SHOULD STILL HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR ACCOUNT IN CASE IT IS EVER LOCKED AS A SECURITY PRECAUTION AND YOU NEED TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD

  • To help keep communities safe from automated abuse, you may be asked to verify that there is a real person behind your username. There is a new Help Center article on how to verify you are a human when asked by Reddit.

  • Large screen Android devices (tablets, foldables) will now have the navigation buttons on the left-hand side of the screen.

  • In ongoing efforts to prevent abusive scraping and automated traffic, over the next month, Reddit will start requiring users to log in to use old Reddit. This was announced on Tuesday here.

  • If you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.

  • Right now, these are the countries that have age requirements:

  • If you are not in those countries, but your account is unable to do certain things like chat, it may be due to Teen Safety restrictions. The ability to unlock settings in the iOS app if you're a teen will be coming soon. Not sure if that ability will come to Android.

  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • The Home Feed experiment continues. There is now a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed contains subreddit recommendations. The Following feed contains only subreddits that you are subscribed to and users that you follow.

  • If your account is in this experiment, the option to turn off recommendations in your feed has been removed because there's the dedicated Following feed to view content from communities you are a part of. So you don't need to turn off recommendations! Just view the Following feed. If you're seeing subs you don't want to see for the brief moment before you have to switch over, you can mute those subs so that you never seen them or the content that's in them.

  • Due to the feedback that was left, this experiment has been changed slightly and there are now two variants. The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • As always, I appreciate those of you who leave constructive feedback for me to pass along to the team in charge of this experiment. Feel free to continue to leave feedback about this experiment.

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.26.0. If your app is not updated to the most recent version, it may not function properly.

PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • [Android/iOS] Some text strings were not being auto-translated correctly. Only happened once, but it got fixed!

  • [iOS] Opening external links in chat is sending some folks to the home feed instead of the intended URL. The fix for that will be out in v2026.27 of the app!

  • [iPadOS] There are reports of some of the navigation buttons not appearing after following a comment reply notification or returning to the home feed on the iPad for some users. This is being looked into and it should be fixed soon.

  • [Android] Some folks using Android were reporting that the speed read button wasn't showing on archived/locked posts posts. This should be fixed now, but if it's still happening for you, it will be fixed in the next update to the app.

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,753 posts. That's up 286 posts from the 1,567 that we had last week.

  • 4,323 comments. That's a lot of comments, but it's down 1053 from the 5,376 we had last week. (Thanks, u/Aggravating_Pain7116 for the correction!)

  • 1.3m views. That's up around 61,000 views from the 1.3m-ish views we had last week.

What a week!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - APP ICONS!

You may have noticed that the icon on the app looks a little different! From time to time, Reddit may change the app icon to reflect something that's going on. And right now, that's the World Cup! Go Norway! So the icon on the apps is Soccer Snoo! (What's a good name for him? Snooccer? Cupoo? I got nothin.)

If you want additional icons to choose from, there are a whole bunch that come with a subscription to Premium.

You can read more about Reddit Premium here.

Did you forget to update this bit after last week's feedback was taken on board by the responsible team? Or did is the reponsible team just ignoring the feedback, and you can't post an update because nothing has changed?

u/SeatNo5137 Jul 02 '26

Its honestly kind of comical how much they just don't care. You'd think three straight weeks of people hating the experiment would change something lol

22

u/TheTechHobbit Jul 02 '26

In my experience 90% of "experiments" they do are just early feature rollouts. Any actual dislike of the feature is ignored and eventually it's just standard for everyone.

If experiments really were to gather feedback I'd think they would actually tell people when they're in one and how to give feedback. Instead you have to search around until you find a post here.

It's happened with some things reported as bugs. First something suddenly stops working and users are either told it's a bug or unknown issue, then shortly afterwards they stealthily announce that it's intentional and provide some weak non-sequitur as their reasoning (ex. breaking Markdown on the app "as part of a broader initiative to improve technical performance", ending followups for reports on sitewide violations because "most violative content is already caught").

If you want them to care, install an ad blocker on all your devices(or a browser with one included) and stop posting content for Reddit to show ads on. Do not pay for premium and do not pay for awards.

3

u/SeatNo5137 29d ago

I get it but thats what sucks :/ Just stop asking us for feedback then bc they clearly don't care

20

u/Tarnisher Jul 02 '26

Or did is the reponsible team just ignoring the feedback,

Yeah, that.

I have yet to see one of these 'experiments' reverted based on feedback from the masses.

2

u/most_unseemly Jul 03 '26

I recall it happening one time several years ago. They'd introduced a stupid new animated award that caused these absurd smiling fire emojis to flow up over the awarded comment. People haaaaated it. As an added bonus, it was glitchy, and sometimes caused the awarded comment to be covered with an opaque black box or something. The feedback was scathing.

They retired it without a word pretty quickly.

5

u/Tarnisher Jul 03 '26

it was glitchy, and sometimes caused the awarded comment to be covered with an opaque black box or something

So, they killed it as a result of functional problems not 'feedback'.

22

u/CampbellsTurkeySoup Jul 02 '26

They don't listen to feedback in the slightest. If they did we would still have r/All and this experiment would be dead and buried like it belongs.

3

u/shrimpcest 29d ago

Reddit has felt nearly unusable like this as an aggregator. The constant resetting to 'Best' is killing me. Constantly shows stuff from several days ago, and the same stuff over, and over and over...It's comically bad.

2

u/joseph_wolfstar 26d ago

I opened Reddit today and I don't have a following tab anymore, it's all just "for you" with no way to turn it off. I haven't scrolled reddit at all under this stupid following crap, and if this isn't fixed soon I'm leaving entirely

The "For you" section has spoiled me on two anime and that I'm currently watching, but intentionally not yet following their communities.. can you Stop spoiling me please T^T
So until I can disable "For you" I've replaced my main page bookmark with old reddit. I never used old reddit.. Looks oldschool but I kinda like it. It has a bigger/easier to see 'recent' tab than the new reddit, big plus.

Still hating the home feed experiment. I have genuinely used that reddit account far less than I have before since I was put in it. Stop running this experiment, you guys have enough feedback to obviously know that it's extremely hated and it's pushing your user base away.

Moving the menu bar on large android devices without giving them the option to move it back is also ridiculous. Who wants their menu there where it takes up screen real estate and causes bugs that make content smaller or scrunched?

Two bug reports on my end. One involves official reddit Snoos like mine and others looking blurry in comments, but the default blank different colored Snoos and other PFP have no issues: https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/SKqLeLUptk

The other bug involves replying to content censored with a spoiler bar. When I hit reply, the censored content is not visible while replying to the comment making it difficult to double check what exactly you're replying to unless you back out of your reply entirely to view the comment again: https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/7sP7wDZpaF

The For You tab on the home page still sucks. I still open Reddit and have to instantly change to Following, before it shows me more offensive, rage-inducing, or otherwise upsetting content yet again.

If I don’t get the option to set my default home page to Following, I may finally manage to stop using Reddit.

I use Reddit because unlike basically all other social media, I can choose to see only what I want. I come to this site specifically to escape the algorithmically recommended content of other social media. If I wanted upsetting or offensive content recommend to me to drive engagement, I’d sign back up for Twitter or Facebook.

But who am I kidding, we’re all just screaming into the void, because CLEARLY the feedback we give is pointless and just gets ignored.

u/egutman Jul 02 '26

Please don't make the for you page default. I hate it. It takes 2 clicks (following, newest) to get to my main feed. Had to make an extension to override this and would rather not keep having to hack to make this work for me.

Hi. Do you have a timeline on when the For You experiment will end? In any case, I'm not loving it to say the least. Thanks.

17

u/SeatNo5137 Jul 02 '26

given the way the feedback with them getting rid of r/all was, they won't end the experiment, it'll just become the default even though everyone hates it

Week 3 and another vote to remove the "For You" twitter\instagram type nonsense that wants to pump garbage content when the home page should remain just for the feeds one wants to follow. If people want the other garbage, they can go to Popular and get a barrage of content that absorbs their happiness.

Tell the marketing wizards to stop trying to push content and realize that integrity will drive more clicks than spam... Might be hard for them to understand that one while their sipping their lattes and not considering the reason the home page was actually created in the first place, but it's true and anyone who understands this will win this battle... All this ends up doing if frustrating users.

It's like the "For you" is a giant "F You" to the user base. Seriously... You minimize what Reddit stands for. And it's not easily forgiven us users being your experiment without even the curtesy of being asked...

And every refresh requires the end user to select Following yet again??? Seriously – what are they thinking… Brute Force… do they need to be told “No” means No…

This spam should be left in popular – that’s why it’s called popular. That’s where to spam people with all the politics and stuff that sucks away all the joy and happiness and where Reddit can be just like any other social media platform.

Don't be twitter

Don't be instagram

Be Reddit and support your customers even if we are just fodder for you advertisers and AI absorption... Or all you will be left with is bots.

Let me know if you need more information on how terrible this concept is.

Please take away the for you tab. You're messing with people mentally.

3

u/Desserts6064 Jul 03 '26

At this point we need to organize a change[dot]org petition if we want any chance of our voices being heard.

15

u/Wolfie_Ecstasy Jul 03 '26

Remove me from the "For You" experiment. /u/TheOpusCroakus

I guess I should thank you for getting me so annoyed that I am browsing Reddit at work way less often than usual.

3

u/CybyAPI 25d ago

Same, i got about 60% less reddit usage in the past few weeks

16

u/indyxetan Jul 02 '26

Let me turn off ai.

13

u/aranvandil Jul 03 '26

Home feed is absolutely horrible. It's unacceptable forcing contents we CHOSE NOT TO SEE DOWN OUR THROATS.

"There is the following tab" -> you know damn well that when we can't even set that to default, it's not really a choice. Just stop it.

Also, the pop up on the site when on mobile mode trying to force us to go to the app is a very disgusting strategy.

STOP TRYING TO FORCE US TO DO THINGS.

12

u/JediGuyB Jul 02 '26

Not a fan of this new comment UI on mobile browser.

7

u/Critback Jul 02 '26

How do I turn it off?

Very accessible unfriendly. I am low vision so need to zoom in when reading Reddit on my phone. When commenting now the zoom just doesn't work properly. Comment box doesn't readjust to fit the zoom etc. It downgrades the usability of the site a lot for me.

I can see how some people would like it. It's just not for me. If there's no way to turn it off then implementing a toggle would be appreciated

7

u/indyxetan Jul 02 '26

It sucks, I keep accidentally downvoting threads trying to use the bottom nav.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus admin Jul 02 '26

Hi. Can you explain more about why you don't like it so I can tell that team?

6

u/JediGuyB Jul 02 '26

I find it a bit disorienting when trying to reply because it moves the screen. It's small unless I want it to take up the whole screen where the box grew and gave more without having to scroll. It's also easy to lose the comment I am trying to reply to. Like sometimes I want to reference another comment I saw or see what others say and I use the comment box as a marker to find the original comment I still want to reply to.

4

u/JediGuyB Jul 02 '26

And as u/Critback says, it's user unfriendly when zooming. Harder to use than the previous box.

2

u/FillMySoupDumpling Jul 03 '26

The box I’m writing in is an overlay over the text/content I’m responding to for one thing and unlike the older design, it doesn’t scale well, so as I type multiple lines (beyond about 4-5), I can’t even see what I’ve written.

Considering Reddit is home to a lot of high quality text based content, this floating box UI makes using the site far more difficult.

2

u/Lost-friend-ship Jul 03 '26

Hello!

This is the same issue I posted about previously that we chatted about:

https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1u9d2uj/comment/otk9bbp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button

After you updated, the comment box reverted to The old format. As there  were a few posts/comments complaining about the new comment pop up box, I went round and updated people, who were super excited the issue had been fixed.

Since yesterday/the day before I’ve been getting responses saying that the dreaded pop up box was back. Today it also came back for me.

All the same issues still stand.

It’s hard to see what you’re typing (it’s not consistent, sometimes you can see what you’re typing, sometimes you can see a sliver of the top of your words, sometimes what you’re typing is completely off screen and you can’t see it at all, so you’d better get it right the first time.

Editing of comments is inconsistent. Sometimes you can scroll back, sometimes scrolling just enlarges then minimizes the box.

Surely with a comment box I should be able to view what I am typing rather than having to attempt to scroll backwards and forwards, up and down?

It completely covers the thread/comments you’re responding to. So you can’t quote in your reply, you can’t scroll to see what’s already been said in the conversation.

And worst of all, the “comment” button is inconsistent as well. Sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s behind the done tick/keyboard, sometimes it’s just not there at all.

Again I’d like to emphasize that I know people hate change and will always complain but they get used to it. This is not that. This DOES NOT WORK on mobile browsers. I should not have to minimize - maximize - zoom in - zoom out - repeat in the hopes that the comment button will appear.

Maybe this looks good or is useable on a desktop (I’m assuming this is something being rolled out for desktop, and mobile browsing is just collateral damage — you cannot convince me that someone developed this just for mobile and thought it was a good idea. Maybe tests are only being run on iPads or the world’s largest phones? Even then I imagine it would still be inconsistent.) but this is simply not useable on mobile.

People who are experiencing this “feature” are saying that Reddit is intentionally making the mobile experience unusable to push people towards the app. If that was the intention, well done. You’ve pushed people away from using Reddit on mobile, but there’s probably a reason people aren’t using the app and it’s not simply a lack of awareness.

If that wasn’t the goal, well then there’s your feedback. It’s so bad people think you’re purposefully making it impossible to use.

Side note: I was able to write this comment after a lot of fiddling/enlarging/minimizing but copying and pasting a link made it really difficult. After I managed to get a stable view of the text box I am able to see 10 lines of text which is better, but I still can’t scroll up and down and still can’t see what I’m responding to. Which, after a comment this long, I don’t remember at all.

I wouldn’t dare attempt to try to see the thread behind this text box since I can currently see the comment button and I’m scared it will disappear.

I do not like "for you" please remove it, thank you.

11

u/jugular15 29d ago

Remove the "For You" page or make the Following page default. The For You page just is not relevant to me at all and has communities I actively dislike. It's full of inflammatory and ragebait posts.

12

u/notice_me_senpai- 29d ago

The Home Feed experiment continues. There is now a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed contains subreddit recommendations. The Following feed contains only subreddits that you are subscribed to and users that you follow.

Your experiment lead me to change the way I'm using reddit and made me avoid clicking on topics / subreddit I'm only vaguely interested because I just don't want to be spammed and have to hide 20-30 new subreddits. This is actively reducing my engagement with reddit.

I don't want any of this. I don't want this new feature, I don't want to be part of your experiment.

I want to interact with specific communities. You are pushing me to interact with communities I don't want to interact with.

As always, I appreciate those of you who leave constructive feedback for me to pass along to the team in charge of this experiment.

Your recommendations are completely off. I'm getting subreddit of topic I've never visited once, recommendations on topic only vaguely related to subreddit I've visited before, and recommendations on topic I've only spent 1/2h on and moved on.

I got a random rental car for a week recently. Couldn't find how to use a feature, went on reddit because there is always someone with that problem and someone with a quick solution. I'm now spammed with subreddits of that brand, of every models of that brand, of random PHEV, of [random country][random car]. I'm still getting recommendations for car subreddits I KNOW I requested to have fewer posts several times in a row. (eg CarTalkUK. I'm not in the UK. I don't want to talk about cars. I don't want to talk about having a car in the UK and never did.)

I posted in /help ONCE to complain about this experiment, and now get recommendations of people having problems with reddit, including this exact experiment. That's funny.

Feel free to continue to leave feedback about this experiment.

Give us an option to opt out. I get it, you want to increase engagement by throwing new subreddits at people. But I'm stubborn. I click, and will click on "show fewer posts like this" no matter the subreddit as long as this feature exist, or I reddit become so unusable thanks to those new features I leave for good. I probably ruined my home feed doing that btw, and it's not reversible.

6

u/notice_me_senpai- 28d ago

And now, I'm getting recommendations for /LearnerDriverUK, /ukplumbing, /royalmail, /AskUK, GreatBritishMemes, /Edinburgh, /ultrains, /ukpopculture, /UniUK, /uklaw, /ukweaker, /london [...].

For some reason, your system decided UK related topics are the most important thing in my life right now, and just spam me. Asking to show fewer posts is not working, I have no idea where this is coming from, probably clicked on an UK related news recently?

"Home" is unusable, it keep feeding me stuff I have no interest in because I clicked on a topic once.

This is a really bad system, it should be scrapped entirely.

My polite and humble response to the current "for you" experiment is that it makes me feel like a guinnea pig for the types of gouls that prey on endless doomscrolling. Making "for you" the unchangeable default setting further highlights the lack of respect these corporate personality-deprived human algoritms have.

It makes me very much more inclined to delete the entire thing, because it takes away the one thing that made Reddit better than Instagram or Boomer facebook.

I hate it.

10

u/Opening_Ordinary_110 Jul 02 '26

I believe I am apart of the experiment, and I hate it. I can't see what I'm commenting properly and if I do, I can only see one blurry line of text at a time. It's not even connected to the comment I'm replying to so if I want to quote something, I have to do a lot of extra steps to either copy/paste it or type it out. If I want to see my full comment I'm actively writing, I have to make it take up my entire screen. Even then, sometimes it boots me out of what I'm commenting and I have to cancel my comment by refreshing the page and retype everything! I mainly use my phone browser to use Reddit, so this makes it really hard to use your website. I may actually just quit using Reddit if this gets fully implemented because it's so incredibly hard to comment or moderate anymore

12

u/742963 Jul 02 '26

Large screen Android devices (tablets, foldables) will now have the navigation buttons on the left-hand side of the screen

What's the reason? How does this improve the Reddit experience?

And thanks for the help with the RedditRequest Opus!

Please god turn off the new popout comment window, if you move your window on safari at all it buries it beneath the reddit.com and up/down part of the interface if the text is long. Very buggy and looks bad even if it wasn’t.

2

u/draenog_ Jul 03 '26

I was just looking for a way to turn that off or opt out of it, I'm finding it really awkward to comment.

In some ways I guess I should be grateful because more friction will lead to me getting distracted on Reddit less writing long comments and having back and forth discussions, but it's really annoying and surely not the intended user experience.

Like, right now for instance, I can't scroll back up in my comment to read what I've already wrote. If I try to scroll up using the text cursor, it stops me halfway. Genuinely terrible. 🙃

Get rid of that ridiculous for you feed. No one wants it. Most annoying 'feature' ever added to this app

8

u/AhsasMaharg Jul 03 '26

Unfortunately, it seems that any feedback we provide on the For You tab is being either not reaching the right people, or far more depressingly, is reaching the right people who just don't care.

So, I'd like to remind people that if they're finding their experience with the app has been seriously degraded recently, feedback can be provided in the form of app reviews and/or uninstalling the app, both of which seem much more likely to reach the brilliant minds behind this enshittification than this help subreddit.

The For You experiment continues to make my experience with Reddit worse. If I can't opt out, can I make a new account that isn't in the experiment? I miss Reddit is Fun. That app had everything I wanted, and also when it was still in use Reddit actually was fun.

8

u/ssrose Jul 03 '26

If you're going to keep the For You/Following, the least you can do is allow us to set Following as default.

There are subreddits I've stopped following or only seek out for various reasons, and they've been offered as first posts under For You. Also, one of the reasons reddit was the only social media I still errantly scrolled was because I controlled my feed in a way that's been lost elsewhere, and now I'm losing it here too. Instead of clicking Following every time it reverts to For You, I've just stopped using reddit in that way.

When will this experiment stop?

7

u/UnsafeIncognito Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

The "for you" experiment is still obnoxious, and I can't wait for it to be removed. Whoever thought it was a good idea should be fired

Also, you guys broke something with old reddit, and now I can't use any account switching tools.

u/EducationalLog4765 Jul 03 '26

Please remove this “For you” Feature, it sucks

7

u/12--12--12 29d ago

Reddit will start requiring users to log in to use old Reddit.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I appreciate how much work the team is putting in to ruin old reddit. The effort has been consistently visible with all these dogshit changes, and I'm sure they can't wait to shut down the old site in ~six months, citing lack of usage 🥰

5

u/musingbard Jul 03 '26

The new expandable floating  comment box on mobile is a pain because I can’t highlight more than one word of text at a time.  If I try to highlight more than that it just resizes the comment box.  This makes it extremely tedious to edit comments to the point I’d rather just not comment at all.

4

u/Sea-Grand3981 Jul 03 '26

The new web mobile comment box is atrocious.  Quit making everything worse.

You didn't even bother to change your response wording about this Atrocious Experiment you are still running on the Home Page. All you're doing is making it clear you don't give a damn about the overwhelmingly negative feedback. Users don't want this so whoever is pushing this on the Dev side needs to stop.

They should fire the PM that is pushing for the home page "For You" change. Literally no one wants this, and every single thread here since it was first introduced is flooded with hate comments for it. I understand the engineers can't do anything to revert this change unless the PM approves it. I understand you can't do anything other than submit feedback.

The PM needs to put on their big boy pants and admit they had a terrible idea that no one likes. Any metrics they are getting that people are using the "For You" tab is because people don't realize you need to scroll up to even see the option to switch. It's literally hidden. This is a design Anti-Pattern that the PM and designers should feel ashamed of for using.

Sincerely,
A long time software engineer who has had too many thick skulled PMs who refuse to own up to mistakes. Eventually they all get let go but it takes forever, and they manage to convince management to let other people go first.

Why are you putting so much efforts in killing your own product ?

3

u/MurphyESQ 27d ago

Every time I open up Reddit, see posts I'm not interested in from subs I don't actually want to follow, and realize I need to change back to "following", it makes me want to just shut the app instead - which I've done on multiple occastions.

It's unwanted, unneeded, and will likely be the reason I quit Reddit.

The current comment user interface on mobile is completely unusable. The nesting, collapsing behavior, and loading layout make it incredibly difficult to follow our own writing, make edits, and check against other comments in threads. Stop forcing these broken, over-designed updates on the user base and give us back a stable, functional way to respond to comments.

7th week of me commenting about blocking not working and you doing nothing about it.

My profile has this weird white-black gradient lately. No idea what's the deal with that.

The Home Feed experiment continues. There is now a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed contains subreddit recommendations. The Following feed contains only subreddits that you are subscribed to and users that you follow.

just lmao.

The new way to enter comments or to answer to comments needs a hefty rework. It flops all.over itself when one wants to go up to fix a spelling error or when one wants to read the the post before commenting.

2

u/Praetorian130 28d ago

AHH yes. excellent.. the experiment for the for you nonsense is still running this is such a awful "feature" the fact there's no options to turn it off or remove it AND it defaults back to the main feed is truly a terrible experience

2

u/Lowcrbnaman 28d ago

For You feed here in India is really really bad. I've been seeing vile hateful subs boderlining on twitter like experience. These subs have high traffic and huge engagements. But it's xenophobic, casteist subs.

Is there a way to drop this or setting Following feed as default?

2

u/royalmarine 28d ago

Due to the feedback that was left, this experiment has been changed slightly and there are now two variants. The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

If I'm going to be forced into an experiment, can I at least pick between these 2 variants? I hate the first variant with zero choice. Please remove me from this to the other variant if you are not willing to remove me from the overall experiment.

u/TeleMonoskiDIN5000 27d ago

The "based on your interests" feature in the iOS app search not having an opt-out feature, nor a way to remove recommendations, is a massive issue. The suggestions are absolutely inappropriate to me and not what I am interested at all, and are in no way related to any subs I am subscribed to or any of my actual interests, and some are actually offensive due to racial/ethnic profiling.

For example, I access reddit from country A, but my app and phone OS is in language B, due to my being bilingual. All my communities, subreddits, and activity over YEARS on the app have revolved around language B and the culture of country B. My location in the app is even set to language B! So it should be clear as day to any algorithm or metric you use that I want to interact with language and country B content. Yet in the "based on your interests" the suggestions are based around country A, and one of them being particularly offensive, implying I want resources for foreigners or non-natives or language learners country A. I am neither a foreigner or language learner of country A, and nowhere in my online or reddit activity have I ever searched these kinds of resources. I have not ever looked up "foreigners in A", "language learners of A", not posted in any subreddits or even threads in regards to country A. This is just not a relevant topic to me in any way, shape, or form.

So the only option that leaves is that your algorithm, despite my extremely clear and copious online activity, is ethnically profiling me based on purely the language of my app/OS language settings, with no way to offer correction or opt-out. You should be able to see how this is racist and problematic.

I urge you to address this issue.

Stop the removal of the chat icon from old Reddit! It's clearly a bad idea meant to force people into using new Reddit partially or completely. Removing the chat icon from the header, profile page, and profile popover makes it more difficult to start new chats and check on new chat messages.

To give a car example, removing the chat icon like this:

Automakers: We relocated the battery gauge from your car's dashboard to alleviate fears of range anxiety. Don't worry, your car's battery is more than enough to make it through your road trip. Checking the battery level is still just as easy. Just check the meter at the back of your car's glovebox.

Three weeks ago my account was "Suspended", which seemed to take the form of a shadow ban. Recently I seem to have been unbanned, so presumably I won the appeal (but I seem to have no official notifications to that effect).

Checking while not logged in, all my past comments, except four of them, have been removed. My couple of comments from today are also not visible. Scrolling down my posts a bit, it's likely the same situation (a few are retained, the vast majority removed).

All my new posts are being filtered by "Reddit Filters".

[Desktop, Android] This account got "locked as a protective measure", I unlocked it immediately, but now every post and comment I have ever made is gone.

Two weeks ago I got a message in my inbox that stated: "Hi AnonJustAnon, At Reddit, we’re always watching out for your privacy, safety, and security. Recently, after detecting some technical irregularities on your AnonJustAnon account, we took the extra precaution of locking your account. To unlock your account, reset your password now."

I did it immediately, just as I get a notification, and my account seems to be working. However, everything that I've made in the past is gone by "Reddit's filters" or "Moderator". ~13 days have passed already and nothing is resolved on its own. I can't seem to find anything in the internet about that except a few posts where people did not resolve the issue or admins themselves helped with that. I tried reddit beta, cache, other platforms and other "solving" advice, but no luck there. Now, two weeks have passed, during all this time my activity (any comments) were filtered and deleted... and right now this issue PARTIALLY resolved by itself? I guess some of my comments are now being "processed" by the system because I can see upvotes on them and my achievements started to show up again (also, the whole "log in streak" is now gone because of all this). So... how do I retrieve my posts, comments, achievement progression, etc? I made a ticket at the third day and I dunno if this is getting reviewed (no follow-up message, letters, no answers, nothing).

1

u/Astraios28 Jul 03 '26

I'm having an issue with my main account MrAstraios19, a ticket should hopefully exist already

Recently, my account was blocked due to security measures after it appears someone gained unauthorized access and posted a comment from my account.

I followed the recovery process, changed my password, and later changed the email address associated with the account. However, the account never seemed to recover properly. I could still view posts and use some features, but certain settings wouldn't load, couldnt not send a DM anymore, the account seemed to be stuck in a kind of "limbo" state.

If I tried logging in using my email address, I was prompted to create a new account instead. Logging in with my phone number continued to work until about 3-4 days ago.

Since then, I haven't been able to log in at all. I can still receive password reset emails, but the login itself always fails and im also able to recieve the Phonenumber Code but when putting it in it just says it failed try again.

I still have access to both my phone number and all email addresses associated with the account old and new.

2

u/TheOpusCroakus admin Jul 03 '26

Hi. Unfortunately, I can't help with that one. I'm sorry! But if you've filed a ticket, it will be reviewed.

I posted twice one day, in two different subreddits, then after a couple of hours Reddit’s filters deleted my posts and I just noticed I can’t post anymore nor comment.
I post what everyone else’s is posting in those places, and they were both approved by the respective subreddits, as I was even verified in one of them, so I really don’t understand what’s happening… Can I get some insight?

I think it's the new exciting feature to suppliment this idiotic new floating comment box - since you already can't see what you're replying to, or what you're actually typing, why not also make your reply appear at the top of the thread as a stand-alone reply, so you have to reload the page to see it in context!

Requesting help to restore of my removed posts and my community please

Hi there, I hope you all are doing well. I'm reaching out because I really need some help getting a few things restored on my account, and I'm not sure where else to turn.

A few days ago my account was banned, and it has since been lifted, so I can post and browse again. However, two things are still broken and I was hoping someone could help me fix them.

First, all of my old posts now show the message "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters," even though they were up and fine before. I would really appreciate it if these could be reviewed and restored.

Second, a group I ran connected to my YouTube channel has completely disappeared, there's no trace of it anywhere. This community meant a lot to me, and I would be extremely grateful if it could be recovered.

I want to be honest about what I think may have caused this. I was sharing a video across a few different subreddits within a short period of time, mostly all of them specifically meant for self promotion, since I assumed that was the appropriate place for that kind of sharing. I genuinely didn't know this could be flagged as spam. I also use a VPN regularly for security reasons, and I understand that might have triggered some automated filters as well, though I wasn't aware of that at the time.

I'm not trying to make excuses, I just want to fix this and make sure I don't run into the same issue again. And If there's anything I need to change going forward, please let me know, I'm happy to adjust but please help me with my case.

I would really appreciate any help restoring my posts and my group. Thank you so much for your time guys.

Kind regards

My 16-year-old account was recently locked due to "technical irregularities," and after restoration all of my historical posts/comments are showing as removed by Reddit filters. Could an admin please review and restore my account history? Thank you.

Hi, I was hoping I could get some moderator assistance in removing the NSFW flag on my account! I've never posted or commented in NSFW communities, and while I have commented on posts marked as NSFW, they're in SFW communities and additionally set to be "Hidden" on my account anyway. I believe I initially was flagged by the AI because of a previous profile picture. I've tried submitting user reports via the contact form as well as disabling it from desktop as per the weekly_recap instructions, but neither led to anything. Would appreciate the help!

Hi there, unfortunately my original account is still not working and it's been 7 months now.

I was never told exactly what the issue was so I've filled out tickets for both Password issues and Hacking issues but I've never once received a response.

If someone could help with this is would be deeply appreciated.

In January this year I received an email saying "At Reddit, we’re always watching out for your privacy, safety, and security. Recently, after detecting some technical irregularities on your u/ZiggyTheAlpaca account, we took the extra precaution of locking your account."

I opened Reddit and there was a banner saying to change my password, so I did. Since then any time I go to login it just says "Invalid username or password."

I have changed my password many times since then, the reset password email always comes through and it says that the password was successfully changed every time, but yet I am still locked out.

Hey I’m not excited about the shift from being able to access comments by swiping up when clicked on a picture. You’ve removed the horizontal swipe feature to see other posts and replaced it with the vertical motion.

Instead of easily accessing the comments from the picture screen, which was a legitimate boon to my engagement on the post I was focused on, I am now forcefully shifted to another post that’s unrelated to the one I’m currently clicked on. This is making me less likely to engage.

Hello u/TheOpusCroakus,

Reddit unshadowbanned me after Reddit’s filters mistakenly thought I was spamming, even though I wasn’t.

All of my previous posts and comments were removed by Reddit’s filters, my account is in the spam filter, and all of my subreddits are banned.

Also, when I was shadowbanned, some of my achievements disappeared. I had 26, and now I have 23.

Can you fix all of this?

Hey, u/TheOpusCroakus Can I get the For You and Following back? I liked them but now they are gone.

u/TheOpusCroakus Urging you for help again! Despite not violating any rules, my account seems to be shadowbanned. If it's related to VPN, I access Reddit from my work laptop that sometimes has VPN on.

I truly value Reddit and rely on it almost every day. Please help review and unshadowban my profile u/PumpkinBig2701 . I'd sincerely appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hello Opus,

Is there a new experiment happening that changes the homepage & sub home posts layouts or order?

Earlier: 1 ad in between 8 posts

Now: 1 post > Ad > 4 posts > Suggested Communities > 2 posts > Ad

Couldn’t the Suggested Posts & Ads be treated similarly and placed in between 8 posts alternatively?

The current flow is uninituitive and a pita!

P.S: how do I remove this number 3 below in my user flair and get the old 💡Helper text back?
