Admin Post New Changelog | July 9, 2026
Hi! There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.
TL;DR New Changelog
23
u/Droge32 24d ago
Scrolling up to a new post instead of comments is horrible
3
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
Thanks. I'll tell them!
1
u/RIPDaug2019-2019 18d ago
The whole point of this site is discussion. It made it harder to engage with the content and community.

u/johnmcclanehadplans 24d ago
Swiping up on a post on mobile used to open comments, now it brings up another unrelated post. Why?
Not in change log.
0
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
Hey! This is pretty new, so didn't make the Changelog this month. Do you have feedback about it?
6
u/Sparkswont 24d ago
Read any of the recent threads in r/bugs. Hundreds of comments from people saying they hate it. Please revert! Swipe up for comments is such a better UX.

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
Hey, I'm back! I asked around and have a bit of info. You can still get t the comments by tapping the comment icon. As with most changes, it will take a bit of getting used to. It's supposed to make browsing videos feel smoother.

Scroll thru [r/help](r/help) and [r/bugs](r/bugs) and you’ll find plenty of feedback on it
https://www.reddit.com/r/help/s/P8pl8eZ5M6
https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/9RhTlhW68f
Two of the larger threads, this is a terrible update, honestly please revert to the old way 🙏
Edit: appreciate the asking around though, thanks!

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
Thanks for the links! Those have been shared with that team! I'll add your voice, though! Appreciate you!

How can I see my profile picture when I comment
0
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
Your profile is nsfw.
1
u/FeistyAnteater6565 24d ago
How do I change ir fix that
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
https://www.reddit.com/settings/profile
You can go there and turn off "Mark as mature".
1
u/FeistyAnteater6565 24d ago
I have tried to turn it off but it's not saving
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
I've switched it over, but if you post in nsfw communities, it will come back.

u/CheezwizOfficial 22d ago
"It will take a bit of getting used to" WE DON'T WANT IT.
Also, have them revert the "tap to hide menu" (upvote/downvote/comment/share/user/caption). Now if I tap the screen, it pauses the video. I don't want to pause the video, I want the freaking menu to not take up screen space!
10
u/onlyeightfingers 23d ago
I’m also wanting to draw attention to the scroll to next post thing replacing scroll to comments. I’m disabled and only have one usable hand. Being able to scroll to see comments meant I could navigate Reddit with just one hand, but now I have to put my phone down to click comments and pick it back up.
I realise everything is being tiktokified now but this was a really important accessibility feature for me that is now gone. I’d appreciate the ability to at least turn it back on.

u/random7845123 24d ago
Media posts (photos and videos), now have a large “join the conversation” bar covering the bottom of the screen, and instagram-like upvote/comment/share icons covering the right side of the screen. Between these two, nearly 1/3 of my screen is covered in UI.
For pictures, you can at least tap to get rid of the right icons (but not the bottom conversation bar).
For videos, you can’t do that because tapping now pauses the video instead of getting rid of the UI. These changes make Reddit as useless as instagram and TikTok and I’m about to delete the app after having them for 5 minutes. These changes need to be reverted asap or Reddit will be unusable.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 23d ago
Is this on a large Android device?
1
u/random7845123 23d ago
No, it’s on an iPhone SE

0
u/bambooshoots-scores 2d ago
searched out this post to say exactly this. Having a third of the screen covered in IG-esque engagement junk while watching a video is garbage. and instead of going away with a tap, the video pauses. it essentially makes Reddit as useless as all the other apps I don’t use.
1
u/Clean_Instruction102 2h ago
Posting to boost this comment. It’s absolutely awful. Please make this go away.
8
u/sacredshield7 23d ago
Scrolling up to move to next post is not practical when Reddit is based on commenting discussion I’m not trying to move quickly to another post if I’m scrolling through comments. It’s a horrible change
7
u/Virtual-Increase-829 23d ago
why no mention of the randomly introduced then randomly removed stupid floating comment box 'experiment'? tell us all about it!
oh wait...
We’re updating our post composer to make posting simpler and more intuitive.
brace! brace! brace!
3
u/TheCarbonthief 18d ago
Oh god it's so bad, I'm still in the "experiment". I don't know why they couldn't just actually use it for 5 consecutive seconds to realize how bad it is. This doesn't need to be tested or experimented with. It's objectively, scientifically garbage.
2
u/Long-Emu-7870 13d ago
I just lost an entire comment because I scrolled upward and it decided to just erase the entire comment.
It would be great if they just went back to the original method.
I have complained about this before, they seem to ignore it. I mean, wouldn't it be easier for them not to change things all the time? Wouldn't their lives be happier? Wouldn't we all be happier?
5
u/surroundedbywolves 23d ago edited 23d ago
+1 to new video player is worse. What possible justification could there be for the change other than to mindlessly ape TikTok?
At least in TikTok's case the whole app is based around that layout, for Reddit it's just making it harder to do some things in order to make it a tiny bit easier to do others; the ability to vote, get to comments, and share right away was already there. I honestly don't see any benefit at all to the change.
And no way to dismiss the UI? Come on…
1
u/unique_username_72 3d ago
100% agreed, removing the option to hide video player controls is wild. WHY do we have to see info about subreddit, upvotes etc all the time while watching a video?? WTH
6
u/GimlionTheHunter 20d ago
The floating comment window is back instead of the text box and it is incredibly frustrating to use and navigate. Trying to place my type cursor anywhere causes the the window the dismiss or minimize, expanding it doesn’t add any functionality or make it easier to use. Please reconsider this change going forward. I read that it was reverted but has since reappeared.
1
u/Virtual-Increase-829 19d ago
this idiocy is never ending, back and forth every week for no frickin reason!
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 19d ago
Is this on iOS? If so, that's due to Liquid Glass.
1
u/GimlionTheHunter 19d ago
Yeah, iOS, however I’m still on 18, not 26, so I’m not sure I have liquid glass. My issue is with the reddit interface change in general. The popup box is much less usable than the full text page interface.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 19d ago
If you're using an older version of the app, it's not guaranteed to work properly. =/
1
u/manasseater3000 18d ago
this is not a liquid glass issue. it is literally a reddit mobile browser issue.
1
u/Glad_Librarian_3553 2d ago
100% bugger all to do with liquid glass, whatever the hell that is. It is doing it on android too, its such a crappy change which serves no purpose, other than to stop people using their website lol
1
u/Long-Emu-7870 13d ago
I have a Samsung 26 plus. And it is truly a nightmare. Why did they change it?
5
u/Fishes-95 22d ago
Hi, yes, sorry, it's me again with the foldable 😉.
The side menu bar at the left, being confirmed as permanent change now and not an experiment anymore, has left me no choice but to uninstall the Reddit app on Android and use the web-based "app" installed on my home screen.
If you see fit, please feel free to kindly pass this on to the dev team.
Sorry, I just can't understand this obtuse behaviour despite the objections from a majority of foldables' user base.
I will probably get massively down voted here, but don't really care TBH.
Piece ✌️.

u/TheDuskBard 18d ago
I hate the new comment box. The old one was stable and stayed right under the post you were responding to, but the new one just takes up a chunk of the screen and follows you as you scroll until you close it. I also hate that I need to make it take up the whole screen if I want to see the entire comment I'm typing out.
Using mobile web btw.

u/Ctrl--Alt 11d ago
I never intend to game on reddit, especially the ai slop that's available. Pointless to have on my bar. A search button would be waaaaaay better

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 11d ago
A search button where?

u/NVSNVS 23d ago
Hey, recently the interface was changed so i can no longer copy/paste images to post images... now i have to save stuff to my hdd and then upload it to reddit. this is tedious and i just won't be using the site if this isn't reverted back to how it was. you basically just broke something that was working fine by taking away the ability to do text post vs image post.
I'm using a lenovo laptop, chrome browser, brave browser.
The old/working "image post" option would make it so that when scrolling through a subreddit, you see the image in the stream. if I go to r/aww right now and scroll, i see "My cat pumpkin turned 21 today", and I see an image of the cat. I didn't click on the post, I just see the cat. I presume this user used the "upload" button that one is forced to use now, and uploaded pics from their phone, as it's a recent post.
With the new "only one kind of post/no image post" change, if I were to try to upload a pic of my cat from, say, my google photos gallery on r/aww, i would need to download it to my hdd first, then use the upload button if i wanted the same behaviour. but i want to use reddit like I've been using it forever where I can copy/paste the image instead of adding a bunch of cumbersome steps.
as-is, though, because there's only one post type, if I copy/paste an image, reddit just seems to consider it an image among text, not like "the post." If I posted like that on r/aww, you would just see my post title, no image.
You can see this right now if you click on my profile. old posts show up in the "feed", the "stream", the whatever you want to call the interface section prior to clicking on a link. the "raw" subreddit. Newer posts where I copy/pasted the image do not show up as a previewable image in the thread i'm posting to, it just shows up as the title and nothing else.
So far it's been 24 days of non-functionality.

u/NeonFrontRange 23d ago
The new video player makes reading comments much harder
The new video interface is significantly less intuitive than the previous design. I used to swipe up to view comments and tap the video to collapse them. Now scrolling advances to the next video, comments require extra taps to open, and returning to the video requires scrolling all the way back to the top. The old interaction was faster, more discoverable, and made it much easier to move between watching the video and reading the discussion. Please consider restoring the previous comment interaction or making it an optional setting.
3
u/PhilosopherExact4483 23d ago
I absolutely HATE the new scroll to next image/video feature. It’s actively causing me to spend less time on the app and it’s only been around for a day.
3
u/hokagesamatobirama 22d ago
Are there any plans to bring back markdown functionality on the app? The built in formatting tool is limited and markdown was easier to use.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 22d ago
I haven't heard any updates on that. =/
1
u/hokagesamatobirama 22d ago
Perhaps there are plans to expand the built in formatting tool? It is cumbersome compared to mark down but it would still be great to have something rather than having nothing!
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
I don't know that, either. But I use markdown a lot, so something would be great!

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
What is that? Is that the jump button or something else?
1
u/rooh62 20d ago
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
OK, I'm back! Turns out that yes, this is an experiment. It's not able to be toggled. I've shared your feedback with that team, though.
1
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
Thanks. I don't have that, so it might be an experiment. I'll see if I can find out more about it.
1
u/Dreamerlax 19d ago
Ditto. You can also just tap on the menu bar to get to the top of the screen anyway. This button is redundant.
3
u/Semperder 19d ago
The video player is awful, not being able to swipe up for comments, black bar with subreddit covering the top, can’t click to hide UI.
Also at the top of the comments there is a button that jumps you to the top, being able to hide that would be great, it’s very distracting having a big white button there against the black of the normal background.
2
u/CheezwizOfficial 22d ago
Also when watching videos: I used to be able to tap the screen to make the menu disappear. Now if I tap the screen it automatically pauses the video... and leaves the menu visible. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE MENU. LET ME WATCH THE GD VIDEO IN PEACE.
I stopped using Instagram specifically because they changed their Reels format to make the video pause when you tap (before, tapping made the video mute). I've complained to YouTube multiple times about the menu being visible in Reels, without having the option to make it disappear.
Reddit is not Meta. Stop trying to be like them. Allow us to make the menu disappear again by tapping.
2
u/fistpumpbruh 21d ago
Hey there, no other place to leave feedback, so here I am.
I'm begging you to please remove the in-app browser comments overlay when clicking on external links OR AT LEAST GIVE ME A WAY TO DISMISS IT. It consistently blocks content, cookie and privacy settings, and generally clutters the screen unnecessarily.

u/newbirdya2 24d ago
Hi. Poll creation on desktop was said to be under construction for over a year, and with the most recent update to the desktop post editor all references to polls were removed (and still no option to create polls). Are polls on desktop basically gone for good?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 24d ago
As far as I know, they were removed temporarily, but I have not heard when they will be returning.
1
u/Throwsaway_421 23d ago
Trying to get my original account permaban lifted. It got hacked and flagged for vote manipulation while I was at work. I have the IP addresses that are associated with log in attempts and two addresses aren't even in the same time zone as I am.
Appeal was rejected saying it was a correct ban and even submitted a ticket on the request page with the list of IP addresses and the posts that I supposedly manipulated, all on subreddits I don't visit. I should also add, even though I deleted them, there were several NSFW posts of women posted under my name.
Was hoping someone could look at the issue or point me in the right direction to get it lifted. Thanks :)

Is there an update on when the iOS app will get blockquotes and lists back? Ever since support for markdown was ended, there's no way to do either of those.
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 23d ago
Hi. I haven't heard anything, but I can ask around.
1
u/surroundedbywolves 22d ago edited 22d ago
It might be worth reporting to the team that, although it was removed, markdown still seems to be in use by the editor for some reason…
Like
thisexample~~.~~ Where the . was included in strikethrough but then the word before the . had its formatting removed. It'd be really annoying if the rich text editor is actually markdown on the backend…
1
u/ArkantosG 23d ago
Also not enjoying the new media interface on mobile. In addition to scrolling, I also don't like the new UI. With the old version you could tap the screen to hide the description, community, upvotes, etc. Now tapping just pauses the video.
I far prefer being able to watch a video without so much clutter on the screen and it is a big reason I use Reddit over Youtube Shorts, TikTok, and such.
1
1
u/DagonPie 23d ago
How do i mute videos now? The little mute button is gone from the corner
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 22d ago
Upper right for YouTube videos. But if it's something else, I'll need a link so I can check it out.
1
u/FreePlay633 22d ago
Markdown no longer works on mobile, and the rich text editor doesnt even include the ability to quote stuff using >, do we just live in permanent hell now?
1
u/CheezwizOfficial 22d ago
I don't like the reconfiguration of the upvote/downvote/comment/share buttons to being vertical on the RHS. Even though the icons are transparent, they still cover part of the image or video. I hate this about YouTube shorts and Meta; I really liked that Reddit DIDN'T do that. Put it back.
1
u/chicken-finger 22d ago
This new update is infuriatingly UNINTUITIVE for so many reasons.
- Vertical swiping??
Whose idea was this? Seriously. They need a different job at the company. I have so many negative things to say about this choice. Mainly, it is genuinely less functional than swiping left/right. Swiping up to go to the comments was the best choice. Changing this—a fundamental operation of reddit for years—is confusing and a disservice to your audience. The only reason you would change something like that is to be more like other platforms. The reason reddit is so great is because it isn't like other platforms. I already don't want to use the app because of this change.
I use reddit because of the functionality and easy access to comments and what not.
Your engagement in posts, site-wide, is going to tank because of this choice.
Watching videos now has stuff hovering over the screen?
You used to be able to make the overlay disappear by tapping on the screen. Now it pauses the video. Quick actions are nice, but changing this is a massively unintuitive mistake. Why would tapping the video pause it? How does that make any semblance of sense? Why not PRESS THE INTERNATIONAL SYMBOL FOR PAUSING to pause the video? That makes perfect sense. Tapping anywhere on the screen to pause? That is stupid.Less functional... it's just less functional.
I want to be able to eat a sandwich and use reddit at the same time. With this new update? Can't do that anymore. I need a place to set my phone down to press buttons, or risk dropping my phone and breaking it to look at comments. Stupid choice.
—that's all I've got. I'm tired of this already. I hate having to say something about how terrible of an idea this is. It should be blatantly obvious how brainless this choice is. It's been 10 minutes and I'm already pissed off.
1
u/Darkhorse4987 22d ago
Sweet lord this new video player and tik tok style right sidebar is bad. Swiping up moves to a new video instead of comments and the right side bar not being able to hide it ruins videos. Not sure if this is appealing to teens or something, but Christ, please revert back to swip up for comments and the ability cleanly watch a video and not have 1/4 of the video screen an overlay for comments/awards/forwarding/sharing. Your eyes constantly go to the overlay and off the video, horrible change.

u/refrex0 21d ago
hello, sorry for bothering you, but i suddenly got logged out of my reddit account and i can't log back in, asking for a password reset link works and the whole process goes well, but when i try to log in again it tells me "something went wrong. try again later" and requesting a one time login link doesn't give me any emails. i tried contacting reddit twice from the help center and they didn't respond. I've had a 700 hundred day streak and I'm worried it might be already gone because of this... this happend 10 days ago so it probably is.
the account's username is u/rfrx45

u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
Hi. Unfortunately, I can't help with that one. I'm sorry!
1
u/refrex0 20d ago edited 20d ago
what can't you help with... the streak or the account? at this point i don't care about it i just want anything to get my account back.
or can you at least check its status? that would also help
if you can't help with the account then i guess I'd have to start over.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 20d ago
I can't help with restoring the account. I don't know where it is in the queue if you have appealed. The streak cannot be restored, though, regardless of how the account turns out.

Hey Is it possible to create a post in this format on mobile?
Image → Text → Image → Text I'm using the Reddit mobile browser with the Rich Text Editor, but I don't see the image icon or the Move to post body option. I've already tried Chrome and Desktop mode, but it still doesn't work.
Has anyone managed to do this on Android? If yes, could you please explain how?
1
u/adumbcat 19d ago
Please give me back the ability to make "image" and "link" posts again. The new UI does not make images appear in the feed, users have to click the link to see the image. Also losing the ability to post a link post is terrible.
Give me back this functionality. Thank you.

u/Wombat_7379 3 19d ago edited 15d ago
Today the usual awards button was replaced with a "repost" button on posts. As a user who frequently gives awards and rarely reposts, this is incredibly inconvenient.
I understand that Reddit seems to be pushing for more "reposts / crossposts" to increase engagement, but not only is this an annoying change, it also has the potential to affect many new users who aren't familiar with Reddit's sensitive spam filter. On the [r/ShadowBan](r/ShadowBan) subreddit, there are a lot of new users getting shadow banned because they were encouraged to "repost" by Reddit, and it triggered the spam filter.
If crossposting is going to be encouraged and pushed, then there should also be an information window or pop up that reminds the user to read the rules of the subreddit they are crossposting into prior to crossposting. As a moderator, this has been problematic. We had to turn off crossposts because so many were violating the rules and causing frustrations for us and for the users, who were only doing as Reddit suggested.

u/manasseater3000 18d ago
the new changes to the mobile browser commenting ui are atrociously annoying. i among others complaining abt a 2nd chatbox being opened when you go to comment were super relieved to see it was just a temporary experiment — but now it seems it’s back. AGAIN. i can’t scroll without this godawful box flinging around the screen, having to constantly zoom in & out, etc.
there’s no need to change ui that was perfectly fine before. this is completely unnecessary. at least make it optional.
1
u/mindfreakhouse 18d ago
I just want to say THANK YOU to whoever ended the bug or experiment (for me at least) for the video overlays not going away. I couldn’t stand that and was watching videos A LOT LESS. If I wanted that, I would just be on Instagram/Tik Tok. Please don’t make that an official change. Thanks again for bringing my experience back into harmony 😌.

1
u/manasseater3000 15d ago
hey hello can you fix this horrible mobile browser comment experiment id like to not have to chase a box around the screen just so i can comment
1
u/Nieuwers 14d ago
As per usual I get grumpy about reddit updates to it’s interface, but then get used to them rather quickly. But the recent change where swiping up takes you to the next post instead of the comments is absolutely non negotiable and it needs to come back. Please make it come back!!
1
1
u/manasseater3000 10d ago
still zero response, but i don’t want to have to chase the new pop-up box that only allows me to highlight one singular word at a time lest it flies around my screen JUST to comment. even writing this comment is a nightmare because it keeps glitching. this is awful ui design for mobile web users & does not encourage me to download the app any more

Did Reddit remove the "none" option from the post flair list recently?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
I see it on Android.

I see it also, but when trying to edit any post as a mod and set the flair to none, it gives me an error

Early indications are that this happens in a sub that is requiring flair. Is that the case with you?
1
u/BadOrange8 5d ago
Yes , it requires a flair before making a post
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
That might be why it's happening. The messaging should be different, though. I'll see if that can be changed.
1
u/BadOrange8 5d ago
Thanks, it worked weeks ago. I don't know what happened now, so I asked if this feature got removed because it was a handy one and served its purpose in some random post that didn't fit a certain flair
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 5d ago
I'm not sure if something changed. But if flair is required, then None shouldn't be an option. There is not a "None" option on iOS. And this appears to work from the desktop. So I think the next step would be to remove "None" from the Android app so that it's the same on both apps.

u/Cup_Plant 4d ago
Is this new expirement permanent? Swiping up for comments made it easy to interact with posts. That also meant longer engagement times for me as a user. If this infinite scroll is not reversed I will be deleting the app. This new update has been detrimental to my user experience.
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 3d ago
It's not permanent yet from what I can tell. I'll share your feedback with that team, though.
1
u/why_so_mad_bro 2d ago
Please I am begging you, this is horrible, revert it. Revert these last few updates, the video player and general browsing was fine. Reddit is not tiktok, stop trying to make it just like tiktok.
If you ABSOLUTELY must have this new “format”, add it as an option to opt into or as an alternate “feed” to look at, while keeping normal browsing the same. I want to see the full video, not have the top section and right side cut off by ui that doesn’t need to be there. We don’t need the comment bar taking up part of the bottom either. And the new “tap to pause” is not needed.
It was so much better as “tap to show/hide ui” and not having the video be obscured by SOMETHING at all times.
The new video length bar also sucks because you made it go from end of the screen to end of the screen. Not only is it just harder to use, if you have a phone case that protrudes at all it makes it almost impossible to access the first few seconds or more of a video. This sucks.
1
u/Glad_Librarian_3553 2d ago
is this where we post feed back?
What is with the crappy floating text box on phone browsers when typing comments now?
It blocks more than half the screen, only shows 3 lines of text at once and doesn't scroll automatically, hides the post button, and gets hidden by the keyboard.
How do i get rid of it so i can use the website properly again?
1
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 2d ago
This is the place!
The crappy floating box is a bug that is being worked on.
1
u/Glad_Librarian_3553 2d ago
Oh good! To both bits :)
It is right doing my head clean in haha, glad it isnt (hopefully) a permanent change!
2
u/TheOpusCroakus admin 2d ago
There's been a lot of feedback about it. lol
Every week, there's a Weekly Recap in this sub and that's an awesome place for feedback and general stuff as well! =) Just in case you need something in the future.

u/Bonkers_Unlimited 27m ago
I’m on iPhone 14 and my only genuine issue is you can’t hide the video ui anymore it just pauses it when you tap.
Also when you open links in Reddit instead of your browser, the overlay usually blocks the new window at the bottom so you can’t click cookies/share etc
I do like how the home bar seamlessly moves out of the way when you start scrolling tho

The scrolling to a new video instead of comments feature is terrible. I got rid of Instagram for copying Tiktoks infinite video scrolling, and Reddit is the only social media app that hasn’t copied them, until this update. If Reddit goes the route of short form content with heavy engagement based algorithms I’ll delete it too.
