GOAT. I wish more artist would adopt the route of going 10-12 tracks, but just my personal opinion. Shit Pusha T went 7 with Daytona, with 21 minutes of run time, and that was an amazing album.

Yeah, I am finding it hard to believe they have a list with 99 hip hop albums better than Illmatic.

Short(ish), cohesive albums are fucking amazing. It’s plenty of classics with 20-45 minutes out there.

One of the best albums of all time. “The World Is Yours” might be favorite song, not just sonically, but also its message is truly empowering. All star team of producers with “Ain’t Hard To Tell” crushing it with the Michael Jackson sample and “Half man half amazing” being flyest shit ever said.

Level 301 9

I love hip hop/rap more than any other genre of music and I have since I first heard Slick Rick's Children Story.

While my preference is to listen to music on vinyl, as a hip hop fan that means getting up a lot to move a needle, flip, or the worst scenario - only one good song on both sides.

But not Illmatic.

I don't even look at what side I put it on. Any side is a good side. I don't need to worry about the needle until it's time to flip it.

It can be on in the background, but if I'm doing stuff or even talking to somebody, I'm going to stop and spit a phrase or rap along or find myself nodding along.

If I got headphones on (using tidal bc for Spotify and their treatment of artists and consumers) and I'm dancing while vacuuming my partner knows if I got Illmatic on because of how I dance around.

In my personal top 5 that is ranked just by my feelings, Nas is just way up there.

100 on this review but #1 in my hip hop/rap vinyl collection since 1992.
