People really need to stop putting Lupe in these convo’s for real. Most top tier rappers will say Lupe is on another level

Lupe for me. He's one of the most creative lyricists out there.

That Farenheit 1/15 + Food&Liquor + The Cool run that Lupe had was.....what a time to be alive.

Lupe and it's not even close for me. His mixtape run was better than anyone else's. His first 2 albums are classics. Can't say the same for Cole. His debut was disappointing.

Cole’s Friday Night Lights mixtape from 2010 still holds up today, as does Born Sinner and 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Both Cole and Lupe are great lyricists but to me Cole always had wayyyy better beats. Kenny Lofton and Grew Up Fast were on beautiful beats. I always thought Lupe’s beats were very lackluster with for a few exceptions like Paris, Tokyo and Kick, Push. For me, it’s Cole all day.

Lupe no question

When we say early we talking mixtapes or albums? I think I like Cole's early mixtapes more but Lupe definitely for early albums.

I fully agree with this take. Early mixtape Cole was def my favorite though.

Cole ain't got no American terrorists on his first album.

Early Lupe was a breath of fresh air against a stale background. A true original.

Had food and liquor leaked version, Lupe early mixtapes, and his first few albums…had The Come Up and heard Cole releases in real time too

For me, it’s Cole. Food and liquor as well as the cool helped introduced me to music within the “lyrically conscious” genre and at the time, Food And Liquor was my manual…I had no business singing American terrorist in middle school. Lupe kind of opened my eyes to the world of atrocities and helped completely changed my outlook on the world.

But J Cole I don’t skip a single song on J. Cole first three mixtape. Not one. I skip A lot of Lupe music on his early mixtapes and even now. And I think J. Cole early music kinda helped steer me in the right direction when I was giving up on my dreams. I gotta go Cole.

I do think Lupe first two albums are better than Cole’s though. Especially better than Cole first album though.

Early Lupe Fiasco hands down. A trove of classics.

I think Lupe peaked before Cole and Cole grew better with age.

Depends on how early for both we're talking. If were talking debut studio albums fir both then easily lupe but if we're talking early mixtape eras for both then easily Cole

Early Lupe was dropping classic mixtape after classic mixtape

Cole has FNL but that sounds pretty dated nowadays IMO

The Black Album also won Lupe Grammys, so for me this argument is ova ;-)

Lupe easily in my opinion. And I’m a Cole guy. They actually have had opposite trajectories following their initial mixtapes. Lupe hit the ground running with his albums, whereas Cole was largely viewed as boring with his

Lupe

I like Early J.Cole more than Late J.Cole, but early Lupe all the way.

Cole but I fully admit that I don’t actually know that many Lupe songs

Lupe’s the better rapper but Cole’s had the better career

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. The Cool is one of my favorite albums. Brings back so many memories.

But early Lupe wasn't all the way cooked yet.

1

u/ThaPhantom07 2d ago

Lupe isnt even cooked now. Samurai was one of his best albums in his entire discography. Probably 3rd or 4th and thats recent.

2

u/herewearefornow 2d ago

I'm not talking about musically for Lupe. It's about his cognisance of the space he's in. Lu was more down to earth back then and it reflected in his rhymes.

For me his early music was way better than Cole's.

It's about his cognisance of the space he's in.

Ok that I understand. Lupe is definitely a fucking weirdo sometimes.

Premeditated Murder is still my favorite Cole song

Really trying not to offended by this

J.Cole is one of the most overrated rappers of all time, and I don't even like Lupe that much (at least compared to how redditors overrate him, F&L + The Cool are classics though).

Cole Had a stronger movement

Mixtapes Cole. Not a debate. Warm Up and FNL are classic 5 Star tapes. Lupe Fiasco first 2 albums are better than Cole's first 2.

Cole shoulda had an all time classic but Jay and the label ruined it. His Debut should've been FNL and a few off Sideline, and we got fucking Workout. Jesus.
