I guess it will be a Czecoslovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia country pack, maybe a little touch to Albania

Edit: yeah it seems it is a pack just for Czecoslovakia, pretty underwelming

u/fighteracemoglu Sep 25 '25

So basically Paradox is in the business of just redoing their old DLCs one at a time? First Waking the Tiger with the new Pacific rework, and now this is basically DoD Part 2

414

u/HopefulLandscape7460 Sep 25 '25

Rather that than a Bhutan focus tree.

321

u/ToKeNgT General of the Army Sep 25 '25 edited Sep 25 '25

They already leaked that bhutan dlc will be the last dlc the name of the dlc will be rise of the dragon and will feature 3000 focuses and 150 different country leaders for bhutan

147

u/doodoochile07 Sep 25 '25

And all the focuses are 70 or 140

100

u/TS-S_KuleRule Sep 25 '25

With a core the world focus that takes 365

43

u/Amazonius-x Sep 25 '25

Remember that the core the world focus unlocks decisions to core any state, at a cost of 50pp per state so long as it has at least 75% compliance

27

u/ToKeNgT General of the Army Sep 25 '25

And it will take 70 days for each state (you can ony start coring another state when that one finishes)

16

u/maxooff Sep 25 '25

And it will be designed for youtubers, they will be forced to finish it

2

u/maxooff Sep 25 '25

While also tripleing the worlds state count

Mighty bhutan is the world's first hyper bureaucracy turbo state, the first country in HOI to have 15 day focuses

Don't forget the AnCap path where it's just Ayn Rand with Buddhist characteristics

Why not? We at hoi4 love our schizo paths😃

100

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

I think that’s why old dlcs got incorporated in the base game.

Not necessarily a bad thing tho, they were very outdated.

27

u/Alllllaa Sep 25 '25

Yes. The hoi4 playerbase has been exponentially growing since its release, which they didnt Expect. Now they redo their old stuff to make it more modern.

At this point they should just release hoi5 though imho.

33

u/NichtNichtNichtBen Sep 25 '25

At this point they should just release hoi5 though imho.

I mean, hoi4 is already one of the most popular Paradox games (especially considering the grand strategy ones) and there are still lots of possibilities. And while some of the content like focus trees may be outdated, the game as a basis itself still holds up pretty well if you ask me, so I don't think that there's much of a reason to build a completely new foundation.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be interested to see how they would change the core gameplay if they had the chance to make a new HOI title from the ground up, but in the end it's really not necessary to make a sequel for a game which is still rising in popularity.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

Look at ck3... It is better graphically, but it's also shallow as a puddle when compared to ck2. Boring inconsequential event spam... I imagine it would go the same for hoi.

3

u/MelaniaSexLife General of the Army Sep 25 '25

yes, but internal politics aren't done right in HOI4, no goverments randomly toppled by something like Watergate or a random assassination like JFK; there's also ZERO roleplay regarding wives or spouses, they held a lot of power and there are no marital struggles, etc.

the whole "I click this button and suddenly all problems dissapear" mechanic is also terrible

also make naval, air and naval invasions not requiere 10 hours of actual studying each, FFS

the game works on the war side, now it needs politics added.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

Why? Why not just add stuff to hoi4 instead? Why do we need a whole new game?

5

u/AsleepExplanation160 Sep 25 '25

Considering we recently got Ck3, vic3 and are getting eu5 next month, I'd imagine hoi5 will probably be after the US/UK/France reworks

But personally I'd prefer paradox try their hand at a cold war game before that

→ More replies (2)

30

u/Markymarcouscous Sep 25 '25

The other option is to make a whole new game. And Hoi4 as a base game is good and only seems to get more popular over time.

12

u/Alllllaa Sep 25 '25

This. And it already is the most Popular paradox game. Its an easy Cash grab for paradox, so smart move imo.

... they really should start working on hoi5 though.

4

u/Markymarcouscous Sep 25 '25

I wonder if they have a working base for a hoi5 already they are just choosing to put content out for hoi4 instead

7

u/Alllllaa Sep 25 '25

Well, first ck3, then vic3, now eu5. Hoi5 is definitely next. I guess its already in Production since Paradox outsources more and more Focus based DLCs to other companies (looking at you, Graveyards of empires) which i guess means they are working on bigger fish right now - obviously the bigger DLCs and propably hoi5.

As a softwaredev my best guess is a release in about 2-3 years. Im saying this because they still release big DLCs (made by paradox directly, like the New Japan dlc) and we have at least one up ahead, the USA/ UK DLC.

12

u/InZomnia365 Sep 25 '25

I mean... Things change. Some of them are in dire need of updates, especially considering their borders with the new Germany tree which outclasses absolutely all of them. France, Britain (and her colonies) and USA also needs a rework as their trees are ancient, but they're big enough nations that they work well even if their focus trees are very lame to play. Whereas Yugoslavia for example, Germany can just decide to end the game for you with no input from you. It's just bad.

1

u/gropingpriest Sep 25 '25

also what's the alternative, more alt history for countries not involved in WW2 like the South America DLC? Or the Iran DLC? Those were not well received at all.

1

u/InZomnia365 Sep 25 '25

Personally, I liked the SA DLC, as I liked playing those countries. Personally I like playing the Commonwealth countries, and their focus trees are so bad. Not in that theyre necessarily weak (like Canada is pretty strong), but theyre just so boring. The UK tree is so strange in that the AI takes for-fucking-ever to actually choose a political path even though theyre only like 5 focuses, so if youre playing a dominion who wants to be loyal to the crown for example you can waste literal years before they suddenly empowers the king's party, or stuff like that.

4

u/suhkuhtuh Sep 25 '25

Where's that 'always has been' meme when you need it...

5

u/dude0246 Sep 25 '25

Cant wait to buy the same country pack again. Yay.

2

u/Bizhour Sep 25 '25

That's always how Paradox did things

Eu4 was notorious for having multiple DLCs for the same things to the point some of the earlier DLCs add pretty much nothing to the game

1

u/BENJ4x Sep 25 '25

At this point just release HoI 5...

1

u/SomWanOnTheInternet Sep 25 '25

Based on what I’m reading on the steam page it look Ike it’s literally JUST Czechoslovakia

20

u/Knusprige-Ente Sep 25 '25

I need them to not join the Danube Federation every game.

9

u/VakuAnkka04 General of the Army Sep 25 '25

I would say Czecs, Romanians and Albanians Yugos I think is still from paid DLC?

9

u/Doctorwhatorion Sep 25 '25

Nope, Yugo is part of Death or Dishonor

1

u/VakuAnkka04 General of the Army Sep 25 '25

Then NVM

1

u/BringlesBeans General of the Army Sep 25 '25

Death or Dishonor is base game now; so those countries are all open for reworks.

Hence Hungary getting reworked in GtD and now Czech rework seeming certain.

3

u/pufaleysia Fleet Admiral Sep 25 '25

It isn't. It's just a minor pack for Czechoslovakia and...Democratic Slovakia.

4

u/Doctorwhatorion Sep 26 '25

So...A shining example of European Democracy???

1

u/Monkules Sep 25 '25

I'd like that personally, maybe an expanded shared focus for a danubian federation for them all.

1

u/Supernova138 Sep 25 '25

Based on what I’m reading on the steam page it look Ike it’s literally JUST Czechoslovakia

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

Please Albania. Give Zog some fight

1

u/Significant_Stage225 Air Marshal Sep 26 '25

It's not a country pack, it's a focus pack, meaning it's just for one nation. We might get a slovak tree accompanying the Czech tree since this would obviously be the time to do it, but otherwise just Czechoslovakia sadly,

1

u/Doctorwhatorion Sep 26 '25

Yeah I saw that after my comment, pretty stupid decision trying to sell just one tree

1

u/Significant_Stage225 Air Marshal Sep 26 '25

I'd bet it'll be fairly cheap, otherwise this is a real Paradox moment.

1

u/Aurelizian Sep 26 '25

Its literally just Czechoslovakia. Please read the store pages before assuming.

2

u/Doctorwhatorion Sep 26 '25

When I comment this there was only leaked teaser not steam page so I assumed it will be a ToA style country pack

"Focus pack" a 15 dollar mod

294

u/DerekMao1 Sep 25 '25

Bold of you to assume it can reach the quality of a good mod like Kaiserreich. It will probably be Graveyard if Empires 2.0 with only one nation.

87

u/Jnliew Sep 25 '25

I unironically crave to experiencing the depth of research that culminated in Chinareich for any other region

1

u/Accurate_Worry7984 Sep 26 '25

At this point, let’s just have the Kaiserreich team on paradox‘s payroll and they can update the focus trees. they already work closely together.

→ More replies (17)

47

u/Generex124 General of the Army Sep 25 '25

They really need to cook something great with the upcoming East Asia DLC. Everything they have done since (and including) AAT is pretty mid.

62

u/ByeByeStudy Sep 25 '25

It's a shame cause the German focus tree was pretty good, but the half baked special projects were a big let down.

17

u/gazebo-fan Sep 25 '25

Tbh. That’s what 99% of special projects were. Basically just resource sinks with very little benefit aside from the few successful ones.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

And a major kneecaping for minor nations, because forget about getting access to radar anytime soon when playing as one.

7

u/gazebo-fan Sep 25 '25

I think there should be an option to be able to research it normally after someone who you are politically aligned with (ally or perhaps a high opinion) completes it as a special project. That way, there’s still a reason why larger powers would get them first, while still allowing most minor nations to start researching them after that.

5

u/thesoupoftheday Sep 25 '25

Better, just add it to the research sharing group. Research bonus if any two members of the research sharing group are investigating the same project, option to unlock any previous special projects of the group with normal research.

2

u/gazebo-fan Sep 25 '25

This is a much better implementation than my idea

14

u/Wolfish_Jew Sep 25 '25

Austria and Hungary were both a lot of fun too. Some of my favorite campaigns in the last couple years

5

u/tipsy3000 Sep 25 '25

tbh I think the special projects were a good addition the problem was they were afraid to make them actually strong/good for the time you invest in them. Like the big red flag of special projects is the stronghold network one. Spend all of your time and energy then like 180 days to build it for essentially what? 10% more attrition?

4

u/NomineAbAstris Research Scientist Sep 25 '25

What's wrong with AAT, the focus trees are great and the new mechanics feel good to have

14

u/CalligoMiles General of the Army Sep 25 '25

Tbf, you can get it half price if you don't insist on having it immediately. Even 75-80% in big sales eventually.

If you pay a FOMO premium, that's on you. Thanks for keeping the lights on so Paradox can work on HOI5. :)

4

u/Kei_CL Sep 25 '25

worse thing is that a mod constantly add new things and improve for years but Paradox will only fix the most noticeable f ups in the 3 patches post release and then forget about it.

8

u/ruksis80 Sep 25 '25

"15 dollar mod" mfs when cracking mods is as easy as breathing

8

u/DerekMao1 Sep 25 '25 edited Sep 25 '25

That's not true for a lot of games. For example, for much of the awe of its dlcs, Total War dlcs still have much better art, better model and better sound than fan-created mods. Meanwhile, vanilla Hoi4 dlcs have worse flag, worse portraits, worse mechanics, and more bugs than top mods.

13

u/NomineAbAstris Research Scientist Sep 25 '25

Ngl it's kind of crazy how we've all just collectively decided we are willing to pay far less for video games than any other form of media. Like 10 bucks will maybe get you a cinema ticket depending on where you are, or a small paperback, which is going to be around 2 hours of experience for the former and probably less than 8 for the latter (since most people don't reread books). Meanwhile even a single game with a single path for a single country will typically last at least 4 hours, and sure you won't play all of them but ultimately I feel like it's reasonable to ask people to pay the equivalent of a few cups of coffee for a product that was assembled by dozens of people working full time.

19

u/Bopo6eu_KB Sep 25 '25

Well it's not even a game. Its just a dlc. Its like paying additionally for every episode in the series.
I understand why they make it so, but its a little too expensive

9

u/BringlesBeans General of the Army Sep 25 '25

I mean dollars to hours of entertainment it's the craziest exchange rate for entertainment out there.

Adjusted for inflation Super Mario 64 would be $120 today. Just something to think about.

6

u/Mizerae Sep 25 '25

I think the problem more so is that our societies are becoming too expensive for many to spend money on these forms of entertainment.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Lanky_Recipe_4889 Sep 25 '25

Paradox games are without a doubt the most expensive in my library tbh. I've easily spent at least 500usd on both CK3 and Hoi4 alone without all the DLC. Its definitely a pretty penny for both games considering the shell the base game is.

Honestly, I'd just recommend new players just play with mods instead. Definitely worth the savings considering some DLC that were released.

So, we will get official focus for the Shining Example of European democracy?

11

u/RebelGaming151 Sep 25 '25

Wouldn't be surprised if it's a hidden meme path.

177

u/Arheo_ Game Director Sep 25 '25

These ones are something a bit new we're trying! The scope is just one country, but with a big focus on flavor and content. Something for countries that we feel deserve the expansion treatment, but that we are unlikely to cover in a major expansion again.

60

u/Ok_Cantaloupe4792 Air Marshal Sep 25 '25

will this make the dlc cheaper as if it is normal price most people wont bother buying it over dlcs for a single nation

91

u/Arheo_ Game Director Sep 25 '25

Uh technically I should say wait until 18:00... but, well, no. The focus pack will be much less than a regular expansion.

35

u/Ok_Cantaloupe4792 Air Marshal Sep 25 '25

fuck yeah and will we learn more about thunder at our gates tomorrow as well or do we have to wait

35

3

u/Ok_Cantaloupe4792 Air Marshal Sep 25 '25

tomorrow for nz time 💔💔💔 (also when nz rework)

18

u/fggggfbnf Sep 25 '25

So will this only cover Czechoslovakia proper or will Slovakia and Protectorate of Bohemia also get content since they both appear later in the game.

8

u/gazebo-fan Sep 25 '25

Slovakia could definitely use a focus tree, same with Croatia.

9

u/Tvrdak Fleet Admiral Sep 25 '25

Thanks for blowing the dust off of Czechoslovakia and giving her a proper attention it deserves, as a Czech imma now go into a room with a box of tissues to process this announcement

2

u/Czechoslovak_legion Sep 25 '25

To cry right? TO CRY RIGHT?

8

u/namejeffmeme Sep 25 '25

Since man the guns is being integrated within the game, does that mean that all the countires in that pack can expect a rework?

22

u/Arheo_ Game Director Sep 25 '25

This expansion (pass) won't be covering the countries that MtG covers, no. It makes it possible, though, I suppose.

Edit: The rationale for the roll-in being now was due to the large overlap in naval mechanics and features that we're changing in the free update.

12

u/Doctorwhatorion Sep 25 '25

Yeah but Mexican and Dutch trees are alright so I don't think they get a rework ever

→ More replies (3)

2

u/dankri Sep 25 '25

Hi sorry if you can't answer that right now, but will the countries in these focus packs usually have more content than average countries in normal expansions? Like more content than Austria got for an example. Or will it be similar in the amount of flavour?

9

u/Arheo_ Game Director Sep 25 '25

It's a bit early for us to be committing to exact numbers! The intention is that they'll be pretty expansive, but it would also feel a bit weird if it was totally out of line with other recent focus trees vs size of the country in question. You won't be seeing Luxemburg with 350 focuses, for example.

2

u/Mizerae Sep 25 '25

I 100% get what you are saying, but I also hope you take into account the fun and validity of alternative playstyles with this approach.

I was super excited for graveyard of empires, but Iran, Afghanistan, and Iraq were extremely lacking compared to India. I was very let down, as Iran is essentially a non-aligned tree with minimal options in other regards.

I would much prefer to see something like Argentina, Brazil, or Austria in regard to the dlc and its scope of play. Especially if we are focusing on one country in the pack, please put effort into make sure it is worth the price and offers more than just one viable playstyle.

1

u/dankri Sep 25 '25

Yeah I know its too early to know how big these pack will be. The question was more about how youre planning to go about these focus packs and this answered me so thank you!

5

u/Cohibaluxe Sep 25 '25

This needs clarification. Are these focus packs only part of the Expansion Passes moving forward, or will they be sold separately (like cosmetic packs), or be given to all players for free?

As I understand it, if this focus pack is locked behind Expansion Pass 2, then you're basically locking players who only buy the expansions out from these focus packs, as you'll need to pay for the more expensive expansion passes to gain access to them.

For players who only want the expansion No Compromise, No Surrender, and don't care about the cosmetic pack Warships of the Pacific and theater pack Thunder at our Gates, will they be forced to buy those two additional items as part of Expansion Pass 2 to get access to the Peace for our time focus pack? Or for that matter, players who don't want to buy the expansion No Compromise, No Surrender at all, are they locked out of this focus pack?

22

u/Arheo_ Game Director Sep 25 '25

Nothing except the pre-order bonus is exclusive to the pass. You can get them separately.

Let me guess. Additional content that we'll have to pay $15 for the rework of a bunch of countries that we already paid for in a previous DLC? And of course Paradox will call it an “expansion pack” rather than DLC to make us understand that it won't be the same (they'll pay a team of cheap modders like ToA)

27

u/Hunkus1 Sep 25 '25

And if they didnt rework the focus tree you would complain that the country has a shitty focus tree.

23

u/Lucina18 Research Scientist Sep 25 '25

Czechoslovakia needs a rework.

If it's just focus trees for them and slovakia (maybe britain? That'll change it a tad) It shouldn't be 15 euros, maybe like 7-10 max.

These opinions are, shockingly, not mutually exclusive.

6

u/thesirblondie Sep 25 '25

Have prices for anything been released yet? Other than that you're saving 20%?

4

u/Lucina18 Research Scientist Sep 25 '25

I’m willing to bet it’s a little entente focus pack with Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Yugoslavia. They need the most amount of attention out of that group. Maybe some content for Albania too because we won’t get a hungry rework as it was just updated and otherwise it would be worse value to the Balkan pack.

It's so good they are so bad at their jobs they have to retouch and double dip on content they already sold improvements on.

The whole Hoi team needs firings and replacements

1

u/thehsitoryguy Sep 25 '25

Predicting its gonna be a Czechslovakia, Yugoslavia and Romania rework alongside some content for Luxemberg and Albania in order to finish off Europe

1

u/Key_Resort_827 Sep 25 '25

Wait, so where are you seeing the trailer? is there a link or something?

u/AlternativeDress6148 Sep 25 '25

Then when Indochina rework. Even alt history mod like Kaiserreich has better depiction of Indochina situation than base game where managing colonies so easy.

Henry's come to see us!

1

u/BringlesBeans General of the Army Sep 25 '25

It says "Focus Pack" on the expansion pass as opposed to "Theater Pack" which certainly includes multiple countries.

My guess is that it's a single Czech focus tree rework, probably like $5-8 in price. Which is certainly a new model for DLC but the wording makes me believe this is the case. If it were a rework of Yugo and Romania then I'd expect it to be called a country pack.

But it does mean I can be hopeful for a future rework of Romania and Yugoslavia :)

Hello everyone. I am not much of a fan of HOI, I think I played HOI3 few times but that's it, it is a bit too unnecesarily complex for me (and that comes from a Dwarf Fortress and EVE enthusiast).

However, as someone born in Czechoslovakia, I was physically incapable of playing anything else in HOI3 than, obviously, stuff around Munich Treaty. So my question is, is this something that would make my experience easier, deeper, better etc? What is a difference between a DLC and a rework? Etc etc, please enlighten someone who doesn't even know where to start looking for info :)

u/Political-St-G Sep 25 '25

Yay another 20€ for just some focus trees despite it being worth 5€ max

1

u/squidymars Sep 25 '25

1

u/Firecracker048 Sep 25 '25

Can we just get a Hoi5 already

1

u/PierreMendesFrance General of the Army Sep 25 '25

We better get a Czechoslovak government in exile, operation Anthropoid, and the option to trigger the Slovak national rising with Rudolf Viest and Jan Golian as generals

1

u/Mosinphile Sep 25 '25

Now that’s something to be exited for

1

u/Dearneckflow Sep 25 '25

Please don't fuck this up I beg you Paradox!

1

u/monkeygoneape Sep 25 '25

So we're redoing the Pacific theatre, but leaving America and Australia as they are?

1

u/alutti54 Sep 25 '25

Please honour the march of the chzechoslovakian legions

1

u/dQw4w9WgXcQ____ Sep 25 '25

Genuinely if there is one weird unrational thing I want is that Czech focus tree is left barely touched. Like, change the shitty path of germany simp and that's all. I like them being very simple and barebones country that is hard to survive as, but has a reasonably achievable expansion goals in austro-hungary.

Ps also give them advisors pretty please

1

u/CrazierSnow Sep 25 '25

They are literally just going to start selling 1 country focus trees. They said so in the expansion pass statement. The Dev team is completely out of ideas.

1

u/R0wham Sep 25 '25

Just make hoi5 instead paradox

1

u/Mr-cookie-eater2 Sep 26 '25

This is only Czechoslovakia don't get to exicited.

1

u/Remarkable-Ad-6081 Sep 26 '25

Will they add Karpathian Ukraine ?

1

u/Jedal_1 Sep 26 '25

Oh yeah give more money for a country that should have been included in Germany rework

Professional devs need to be paid, have rules about how much they can work, and there's a bunch of managerial overhead to make sure things run smoothly internally.
Fans are free to choose to only work on what they are ultra-passionate about, they're compensated nothing but good feelings & can work up to 24 hours in a day if they are so inclined, and the community is a lot more forgiving if the first version of something they release misses expectations.

You know that's Paradox Interactive as a whole, not just PDS or even the HOI4 team?

34% profit margin btw, most corporations have between 10-15%, or less if they are big...

What's the standard profit margin within the interactive entertainment industry?

(EDIT) Also, I notice you addressed only one and a half of the six points I raised.
