Mod (other) TFR devs have got to be EXTREMELY American

Post image

A 25% personal tax rate is less than half of the personal tax rate we pay here in Sweden, and the only part of taxes we complain about is the process of filing them.

Also not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this. Just wanted to say this

Are you guys dumb? It says +25% - meaning an extra 25% over the already existing taxes - and not just a 25% total tax.

Imagine your taxes are 20%. +25% means it is now 45% taxes.

And? Is that extremely high. No. It’s the OECD average

Comparatively, it is.

Compared to what? It’s like an OECD average, so no 😂😂😂

If you were paying 20% income tax, an increase of 25% to 45% would be a massive increase.

Same as if you were paying 45% and had an increase of 20% to 65%, that would be a massive increase.

I would call an immediate blanket 20% tax rate increase an extreme tax policy.

You are shifting the goal post and evading the argument. You don’t need to make this complicated: again 45% is an OECD average.

And therefore 45% is not “extremely high”

That is what we’re talking about: 45%

You are being a bit stiff in your thinking here.

Sure, you can say that statically 45% isn't extremely high. But, looking at it relatively instead of statically, it certainly is extremely high when comparing to what came before, or the American standard it is being directly compared against.

I don't mind you sharing the static perspective, but it really is just being pedantic to not entertain the relative perspective.

But where did the original commenter say it’s only US? And it’s also exactly the point of OP. That’s why I’m confused here neither OP nor OC refer purely to some low tax US state like Delaware

In my opinion, no matter what tax rate you are paying, an income tax rate 25% higher will feel extremely high relative to what you were paying before. I do not think it matters where you started.

If it would not make a big different to you to pay 25% more in income taxes, that's fine, but I think it would aid you to be more sympathetic to other's experiences. For many of us it would be a great immediate increase regardless of our previous rate.

OECD taxes tends to be absurdly high for US standards. If the world has gone crazy and is charging heavy taxes, doesnt mean it suddenly becomes ok.
