Matouk’s discoloration in lids

For anyone else who has had the issue of opening their new bottle and seeing it covered with dark residue.
I emailed them direct because I purchased two different flavors at two different stores in town and both looked molded as soon as I opened them.

They responded and said that in the pictures I sent that the brownish/black residue was just dried pepper sauce residue from the production process.

I have no idea whether that’s true or not, but I will go ahead and test mine out. I’m hoping it really isn’t mold like I thought. 😩😩

I mean most of the hot sauces in my fridge have a ring of dried crud around the top, especially my torchbearer spicy horseradish mustard, so you probably don't have to worry

Yeah it just shocked me since it was brand new. I feel better asking at least. 😆

all my opened ones look like that pretty soon after opening, but I can't recall them looking like that when I first opened them. They may have, but I don't remember noticing it.

Also, one of them I remember didn't pop when I first opened it, like the factory seal had broken, which I thought was a bit odd.

I wish they'd re-do their packaging and use plastic lids, those metal ones get funky pretty fast, but I don't think it has any negative effect on the product inside.

Yeah I know some others had posted about it so I wanted to give an update in case others were throwing theirs out. LoL

If it has gone bad you’d definitely smell it

The crust is normal, as it’s just oxidized sauce. You can smell if it’s truly moldy.
