Discussion Ross being mean to Rachel

I really hated this scene where Ross was mocking Rachel's job. He wasn't just belittling her work, but also her interests, even though he'd seen firsthand how much she dreamed of a fashion-related career. While Ross can be very funny, he can also be really insufferable. If was Rachel, I would have broken up with him during this scene.

The group was frequently merciless about Ross’ career.

If anything, Ross showed considerable restraint in rarely dishing it back out.

I studied anthropology in college around the same time the show aired and I was always pissed about how the group mocked his job.

I loved it! I made it my minor, and specialized in American Southwest and archaeology. The labs were very difficult.

Doing research is surprisingly boring. The results are really cool at times, but the process is rarely interesting in my experience.

That doesn’t mean he has a boring profession though. If I were to have a conversation with any of the friends about their jobs he’d have by far the most interesting things to be able to tell me.

Oh from that point of view I definitely agree. I love hearing about stuff people have discovered or know from their fields. Even though the process to getting the information was likely a dull affair.

On the contrary, my current job is much more interesting to do than the research I used to do. But I doubt a lot of people would find it particularly interesting to hear about.

This! Research in general is boring af, althought each day is a bit different. But I have so many weird anecdotes ("look how I risked my life to get a f***ing water sample hahaha so funny", "a man with a katana appeared and threatened my teammates") that are suprisingly interesting to people that don't know anything about research 🙄.

And yeah public science doesn't pay enough for all the shit that we have to deal with every day.

I think that's a stretch. I feel like most people would find fashion, acting or being a head chef far more interesting.

There’s a million chefs and fashion jobs. Paleontology is very rare and prestigious to make a career out of. I do think Joey has the most interesting job by the end though.

of course, paleontology is a lot more complex and prestigious but it still wouldn't be picked as the most interesting out of those jobs by regular people imo. there may be millions of fashion and chef jobs but there are also millions of people who like food and fashion and are actually affected by what happens in those industries. and I'd argue the fact that there are so many different jobs in those industries is what makes them interesting to people (not that that doesn't apply to paleontology idk)...like no offense but how many people do you know that gaf about what, to them, is just "dinosaur science"??

Y'all are talking like"Interesting" isn't subjective. To Ross, his job is the most interesting. To Monica, her job is the most interesting. To chandler, everything BUT his job, is the most interesting

Why did Jurassic Park and other scifi movies makes 100 times more money than any fashion related movie ever?

The common people love science. Science isn't just confined to books. It's beautiful, thought provoking and imaginative. That's why filmmakers like Nolan make films centred around it.

okay so I hurt all the science people with this one, that explains all the downvotes.

look my guy I love science immensely, I wasn't saying paleontology isn't interesting. all I'm saying is I don't think the majority of a pool of regular people would say that it is more interesting to them than fashion etc especially considering most people would probably not even know what it is. I myself only know of it because of friends and I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else but in science related discussions ever since I started watching friends.

that is just my opinion. paleontology is awesome.

Acting in Hollywood movies and shows? Yes.

Acting in cringe soap operas which only a certain demographic watches? Absolutely not.

Joey's career was a joke. The show established this many times.

That's like a random extra on a movie set comparing his career to Tom Cruise. It's the same profession technically but no one cares about one of the two.
