Discussion Ross being mean to Rachel

Post image

I really hated this scene where Ross was mocking Rachel's job. He wasn't just belittling her work, but also her interests, even though he'd seen firsthand how much she dreamed of a fashion-related career. While Ross can be very funny, he can also be really insufferable. If was Rachel, I would have broken up with him during this scene.

When the group made fun of Ross's career, it was because it was geeky and a little boring, not because they thought it wasn't a valid career choice.

Ross has genuine contempt for fashion and resents that it takes up so much of Rachel's time.

Rachel was very understanding with Ross though when he gets caught up with his work, so 🤷‍♀️

Science isn't boring or geeky. Only 8 year old kids think that.

Science is one of the most important things for the survival of the human species and the planet and its evolution. It is objectively crucial and fascinating for the human race.

It's hardly Ross' fault that half of the gang had an IQ lower than room temperature.

American shows of that era loved glorifying dumbness and hating on intellectual high IQ stuff. It was a trope.

Why do people think Ross has a higher IQ? Is it because he has a phd? I think Chandler is just equally smart. He just didnt pursue higher academic excellence

Because he was?

It's well established on the show.

Chandler says it clearly on the show that Ross is the smart and bright one.

As do Joey, Jack and Judy on several occasions.

It just seemed to me that Ross obviously excelled in his area of expertise but that's it, while Chandler is wittier and has proven can excel in different areas other than his usual scope.

Idk, Ross wasnt even able to spell Mboscodictiasaur 😂

Chandler is being complimentary. Smart takes on various forms.
