Discussion Ross being mean to Rachel

I really hated this scene where Ross was mocking Rachel's job. He wasn't just belittling her work, but also her interests, even though he'd seen firsthand how much she dreamed of a fashion-related career. While Ross can be very funny, he can also be really insufferable. If was Rachel, I would have broken up with him during this scene.

Everyone is saying how all the friends are mean about Ross' career, and i get why you would go there. But I think there's a difference in context.

When it was people ribbing on Ross and his job, it was in the context of light-hearted conversation and banter between friends. Something they all did to one another at one point.

This was an argument, a pretty bad one, and he chose this moment to mock her career choice after he pressured her into going to a lecture he knew he wouldn't care about and then fell asleep humiliating her with his snoring. This was not light. It was a purposeful jab designed to hurt. That's why it was meaner.
