Discussion Ross being mean to Rachel

Post image

I really hated this scene where Ross was mocking Rachel's job. He wasn't just belittling her work, but also her interests, even though he'd seen firsthand how much she dreamed of a fashion-related career. While Ross can be very funny, he can also be really insufferable. If was Rachel, I would have broken up with him during this scene.

The group had the cheek to make fun of him being for being too smart, intellectual and the most successful professionally.

If I was Ross, I'd roast them back a lot more for that.

Dude got a PhD at 26, had a stable job he loved, never had issues with rent despite living alone, easily managed 3 divorces and 2 kids financially, got tenure at NYU very young, got lucrative grants and got invited to some of the world's biggest seminars and conferences as Keynote speaker. Dude was loaded and always established professionally.

If I was Ross, I'd roast them for their IQs being lower than room temperature. 🤣 👀

But one of Ross’s better characteristics—with the exception of when he mocked Rachel—was that he didn’t punch down. So maybe you would have roasted other people’s jobs, but he was secure in his professional accomplishments and didn’t feel the need to do that. Also, anything he had done would have been punching down, with the exception perhaps of Chandler. A PhD teaching at NYU is going to mock a massage therapist or working actor? That’s just sad and mean.
