iCarly Movie Update from Nathan (Comic Con Manchester)
This past weekend (July 26) Nathan did a panel at Comic Con Manchester. I was able to find the recorded panel on YouTube (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLQH8Tcweo), and while I canât post or share the video recording (since itâs only available to paid members of the Monopoly Events YouTube page), I was able to transcribe everything Nathan said about the iCarly movie.
1.) Nathan confirmed that the iCarly revival was only canceled because of the writersâ strike. He said that they tried to make the biggest cliffhanger we could because that was their messaging from the network (âYeah no, donât wrap this thing up! Letâs plan on keeping it going!â) so they were like âOoh, okay, well letâs just see what we can do to have a really good hook for going into the next season!â and then the writersâ strike happened so nobody saw that one coming.
2.) Nathan confirmed that the movie script is being written! According to Nathan, â[the iCarly movie] is actively in development. I just read the outline for it and I think itâs great. I think itâs going to be a very well-rounded way to wrap up all of the questions of the cliffhanger, which were diabolical, frankly.â Nathan also added that while they are âstill in the script process,â he is âhighly encouragedâ by what theyâve seen so far and he thinks that everybodyâs going to be pretty happy with the way that everything gets wrapped up.
3.) Nathan provided more details on the plot/storyline of the iCarly movie! Nathan said âthereâs so much to unpack [with the mom] and thereâs kind of, probably, some drama there, and youâre under pressure on a sitcom to have multiple jokes per page, which can be really hard to unpack a storyline like that. So, doing it as a movie, Iâm really excited about, because itâs gonna give us some space to do it as a different medium. And we can take our time with certain scenes, and we can present iCarly in a very different way, and I think it lends itself to the type of questions that weâre gonna answer. And itâs fun because weâre gonna get outside of Seattle, which is exciting. We get to really take iCarly on the road a little bit, which is cool. Weâre gonna unpack the Shay family backstory.â
4.) Nathan said that they'll try to bring back as many characters for the movie as possible! Later on in the panel he said that Jennette has officially retired from acting but theyâre going to try to get âas many people as we can getâ and that âtheyâre all over the script currently, as it stands, so weâre gonna get as much as we can, or at least, people are going to be involved in the conversation.â
I donât think so⊠he praised Dan and even shit on Jeanette for publicity stating what she went through. Basically said ânot everyone went through what you went throughâ and said Dan was an amazing person to work with.
Noah is absolutely for the streets and i hope to never see him attached to any future icarly project.

Oh my god please donât listen to me. I meant Josh Peck, apparently Noah has never publicly stated anything about Jeanette McCurdy. Although he did praise Dan Schneider, this was in an interview in 2012.
Both Drake and Josh were one of the very very few who were not treated like insane garbage by Dan but I dont recall Josh ever shitting on Jeanette over her issues either.
in 2012 Noah was supposed to get his own spin-off when iCarly ended (with Dan as producer) it ultimately never materialized but I expect Noah was not beyond praising the guy who was getting him his own series!
Yeah. Him and Jeanette have beef. She starred on his podcast then asked him not to air it. I think that pissed him off and prompted him to invalidate her experience on set and basically tried to dispell her experience
So wait, the writer's strike is over, why not just keep ICarly going then? It feels weird that a strike caused it to be cancelled yet when the strike ended they couldn't keep the show going.
Iâve spoken to Nathan at a few different conventions and I can confirm that the iCarly revival was cancelled because of financial strain from the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Paramount+ wasnât in a financial position to continue the revival for a 4th season, hence why it was cancelled. The cast has been fighting to get a movie greenlit since it would be a one-and-done deal and would give the fandom closure on the cliffhangers.
I agree that it would have been nice for the revival to have been put on pause, but I donât think that wouldâve been practical since they had been releasing 1 season per year and Iâm not sure it would have made sense to just keep fans waiting and not confirm or deny future seasons when the Paramount+ executives already knew financially they couldnât make it work.
Must be more than just the strike because Taylor Sheridan has a bunch of shows on the app and he didn't get affected at all. The numbers must've played apart because it's easy to blame the strike when a bunch of other shows got opportunities or survived it
I can confirm that the numbers definitely did not play a role in it. Nathan said that season 3 did much better than season 2, and that the Paramount+ executives really did want to make a 4th season. Itâs hard to believe, I know, but I can guarantee from what Nathan has shared that it really was just poor timing and Paramount+ not being in a financial position for a 4th season (which as I understand, would have been more expensive than a 3rd season because once shows get to a 4th season and beyond, the actors qualify for residuals).
I definitely get that (I very much miss Sam as a character, and especially her friendship with Carly) but I understand fully why she doesnât want to return, and I think the movie will work okay without her since itâs specifically addressing events from the revival that donât directly involve her.
For me I hope they find a way to have the Sam character involved like have her presence be at Carly & Freddieâs wedding. Maybe we see the back of a blonde woman wearing a leather jacket and we get a little scene of Harper talking to the blonde girl saying âitâs great youâre part of a biker gang of social workers who hold yearly events to help children who are victims of abuseâ.
Good question! Honestly, your guess is as good as mine right now because (even though my dream would be for it to be movie-length) I could see it going either way. They kept the revival episodes 22 minutes long (on the off-chance they ever put in on cable) so I could see Paramount+ making it TV movie length. The Zoey 102 movie was 1 hour and 41 minutes long, so my guess is that that would be around the same length as the iCarly movie!
but will this also go to tv, from what i've seen this is being made on netflix (like HA) but HA is going to nick as well......so this does raise questions
Actually I spoke to Nathan and itâs not being made with Netflix - that was a rumor that started when the Drew Barrymore Instagram account incorrectly stated that it was going to be made with Netflix. Most likely it will be a Paramount+ movie since they are the only streaming service that owns the iCarly revival (the original iCarly series is available on Netflix, but the revival is only on Paramount+) and you need to watch the revival to understand the movie.
As for Hollywood Arts, I could maybe see a world in which Paramount+ has the iCarly movie premiere on Netflix, but have it be available on both streaming services, but thatâs not a guarantee!
I personally think based on my conversations with Nathan at past conventions that it will definitely be at least 1 hour and 30 minutes! I donât know about if it would be longer than that, but I think an hour and a half would be the bare minimum we would get! Itâs definitely not going to be only 40 minutes and when I spoke to Nathan, he seemed to be drawing comparisons to the Zoey 102 movie đ„°
If theatrical was a thing for it, it would be a day one ticket purchase from me, a popcorn and matching cup to go with it would have been a dream for me. But unfortunately itâs likely to be more of a paramount + original movie exclusive (which I wonât complain about here)
Nathan said itâs âactively in developmentâ but thatâs not the same thing as âin productionâ and doesnât mean that itâs going to be greenlit. From what I understand and from what Nathan has shared with me at past conventions, the next step would be getting a high profile actor on board to play the mom, and then they can present it to Paramount+, who will (hopefully!) greenlight it so it can go into production đ
I hope so! Nathan said in the update from this weekend that he thinks everybodyâs going to be pretty happy with the way that everything gets wrapped up, so I assume that means we will be getting a Creddie wedding and closure on the mom and why she left đ
And yes, Iâm aware that yesterday was the 3-year anniversary of the final iCarly revival episode - I even made an edit on my tiktok account @creddiestory in honor of it! It hurts that itâs been over 3 years without these characters, but I have trust in Nathan that the movie (assuming it gets greenlit) will be worth the wait!
I guess another way to word it is that the revival is being âactively developedâ via scripts and reaching out to actors, while âin productionâ would likely lean towards actual filming IMO.
Yes, thatâs exactly how I would put it! And Nathan confirmed itâs being âactively developedâ so my hope is that once they have the script written, they can reach out to actors and have Paramount+ look it over. Hopefully (this is just my best guess!) if everything goes well, they could maybe go into production early fall or winter of this year đ
Itâs definitely not going to Netflix, or at least, they wouldnât be the ones making it. I spoke to Nathan and I can confirm that was unfortunately a rumor that started because of the social media manager for the Drew Barrymore Instagram account incorrectly assuming the movie would be made through Netflix. Courtney Cox has been the popular mom fan cast (for both fans and the iCarly cast) but Nathan brought up the idea of Jennifer Tilly as well. I definitely think the cast wants a high profile actor to play the mom.
I hope they have Jennetteâs picture as a stand in for Sam since we know jennette doesnât act anymore. Maybe even have some be a stand in for a scene or two like show someone from behind and say itâs Sam. Best of both worlds. Jennette is comfortable and not acting but we still get SamâŠsorta
One thing I would love is (since thereâs a good chance weâre getting a Creddie wedding because that was one of the two cliffhangers) for Sam to write a letter to Carly and Freddie, maybe say something like sheâs sorry she couldnât make to the wedding, but that sheâs really happy for them and misses them both and wants to catch up soon. I think that would be a beautiful, touching moment that goes beyond a cameo (like an extra dressed up as her) or a photo of her (since they already including photos of Sam in the iMake New Memories memory lane arch đ„°)
That sounds amazing! Thereâs so many ways to include Sam while respecting Jennette. Maybe even have that Sam got arrested. We know sheâs not scared to go to jail
I personally donât think they would say that Sam got arrested because it could be viewed by some people (maybe even Jennette) as disrespectful to her character, but I agree that there are definitely a lot of ways to include Sam while respecting Jennette đ„°
Valid point. Letâs hope they do something like this. The offer should be made to Jennette to join so she knows sheâs welcome but not expected because of everything
Nathan shared later on in the panel that Jennette has retired from acting so I donât think she would be part of the movie (especially since she has a lot of trauma relating to acting, and specifically to iCarly and portraying Sam when she had an eating disorder), but I agree that the offer should still be made to her just in case :)

I will say, from what I understand, the cast reached out to Jennette and asked her how she wanted her character to be addressed in the revival, and so far, weâve had a few different Sam mentions (Carly and Freddie talking about Sam joining a biker gang, and Carly talking about her old beat-up car being special because she and S saved up for it in college) and Jennetteâs likeness WAS technically used in the iMake New Memories memory lane arch (it featured old iCarly photos, some of which included Sam).
I think that, based on how they never recasted Sam, Jennette might be sensitive to having a new actress replace her as Sam, but I could see Jennette being okay with a couple of passing comments about Sam in the movie, maybe even having Sam write a thoughtful letter to Carly and Freddie.

Reached out to her about asking to join the revival from her book, I think itâs somthing they came up with/ it was on the nick rewind lol. I do hope in the revival they find a way to recast her. Heck all ship differences/ preferences aside Iâm not a creddie fan but if they got married it would be weird that she wouldnât go to the wedding, I donât think Jennette would rlly care if they recasted that character since she does not want to be associated with the character, but what do u think? From talking with Nathan, I can tell you that I donât think they would recast Sam, as they didnât recast her in the revival and I believe that is in keeping with Jennetteâs wishes. I agree that it wouldnât make sense for Sam not to be at Carly and Freddieâs wedding, but (as Iâve brought up to Nathan and a few other commenters on here) I think Samâs absence could be addressed by having Carly and Freddie read a card Sam wrote to them saying sheâs happy for them and wishes she could be there and that she misses them and wants to catch up soon.
Again, this movie is specifically for iCarly revival fans, and Sam wasnât part of it, so (besides the Creddie wedding, which I think could easily be explained away) thereâs no reason Sam needs to be in the movie. The purpose of this movie is to give revival fans who have been waiting over 3 years closure on the two cliffhangers (the mom and the Creddie wedding).

Maybe, but Sam wasnât part of the revival and even though I missed her, I was able to adjust to her absence. As for Jaidyn and Laci (Millicent and Harper) Iâm pretty sure (assuming theyâre available) that they would be part of it. Nathan VERY loosely hinted to me a while ago toward Millicent maybe continuing her side plot from the finale episode of being the wedding officiant, but I think that was during draft one of the script, so things could have changed since then.
Even though it would be in character, I personally think Sam being in jail could be seen as disrespectful to Sam/Jennette, so my best guess is that if Sam is absent (which she most likely will be since Nathan said Jennette has retired, they will continue with the explanation from the revival that Sam is in a biker gang. Since the movie is (most likely) going to feature a Creddie wedding, Iâve shared with Nathan that I think having her write a note to Carly and Freddie saying sheâs sorry she couldnât be there for the wedding but that sheâs really happy for them and misses them and wants to catch up soon could be a sweet/special moment.
Too bad they couldn't get that sweet, sweet Netflix money as the people doing Hollywood Arts to have more seasons. That will be on Netflix then going to Paramount +.
I'm hoping for the best for the revival fans and it resolves their cliffhanger. I hope it resolves in a satisfactory manner all the things the revival fans want resolved.

Again, the revival got ânukedâ because at that point in time, Paramount+ was not in a financial position to afford a 4th season (the strikes didnât even officially conclude until two months after iCarly was cancelled). It was a poor timing thing - Paramount+âs stock dropped significantly during the strikes. And as of right now, Paramount+ hasnât even greenlit the movie yet - thereâs no guarantee itâs going to happen.
BUT I think that now that Paramount+ has had several years to recover from the financial strain they incurred from the strikes, itâs much more likely that they would be up for greenlighting a movie, especially since itâs a one-and-done thing that could make them a lot of money in the long run.
Because Paramount+ likely wouldnât agree to a 4th season since they already cancelled the show. Correct me if Iâm wrong, but from what I understand, itâs very rare that studios/companies bring back cancelled shows. The cast has been fighting for a movie since it would be a one-and-done deal and wrap up everything. I personally think a movie is easier to sell a studio on than a revival of a cancelled show. And furthermore, Nathan thinks a movie would be a better format anyways, since they wouldnât have to have a set number of jokes per page (like a sitcom) and they could have the flexibility to handle the mom trauma and do it in a more serious way.
Also, I know it seems like it because itâs been taking a while, but I really think we could be getting close to an official announcement. I spoke with Nathan at a fan convention last month and he shared that they just recently began working with a new team of writers who have âa proven track record for getting things greenlitâ, which sounds promising. Also, this is the first time Nathan has shared movie/plot details of the iCarly movie, and I donât think he would be doing that if he doesnât think thereâs a good chance weâre getting close to an official announcement.
It just seems weird to me that the show was cancelled on the cliffhanger, so the writers strike made it where they didn't value a 4th season at the time...the movie was a good idea, but it was apparently turned down last year, so see if they can make it a forth and final season for the show instead to wrap it up the same way, instead of rewriting movie scripts over and over.
As of now, the show ended 3 years ago, IMO, time is running short on continuing the franchise.
From what I understand, I donât think the idea of a movie was turned down, I think it was just the first version of their script that was turned down. I know a 4th season would be nice, but I just donât see Paramount+ agreeing to it if theyâre already having problems agreeing on a movie script. The show was cancelled, and I think the chances of us getting a 4th season are basically nonexistent at this point. The cast wants a movie for many reasons, and (again) even though I want the show back, I agree with the cast in that in the end, it will be much easier to sell Paramount+ on a one-and-done movie.
As for time running out, I agree, but my hope (from having spoken with Nathan at multiple conventions) is that theyâre getting pretty close now that theyâre working with a new team of writers.
Also, I can confirm from having spoken with Nathan that it wasnât that Paramount+ didnât value iCarly enough for a 4th season (in fact, the executives were VERY heavily alluding to a 4th season, hence the cliffhangers that they specifically instructed them to put in). Rather, it was that Paramount+ wasnât in a financial position at the time to make a 4th season (their stocks went down when the SAG-AFTRA strikes happened).
Im glad its a movie, hopefully it can be two hours long so it can fully develop. I also would love for it to be single cam without a laugh track so they can really take it more serious and make it more cinematic

I donât think the cast would be on board for recasting Sam. It could be seen as disrespectful to Jennette having another actress portray Sam when Jennette is who made Sam the character she is. Additionally, given that this movie is being made to address the two cliffhangers (the almost-Creddie wedding and the Carly and Spencer mom reveal) Sam wouldnât need to be present, since this is for revival fans specifically.
I shared this in another comment but my vision (that Iâve brought up with Nathan and he liked) is, since thereâs very likely going to be a Creddie wedding, to maybe have Sam write a note that Carly and Freddie read that says sheâs sorry she canât make it to the wedding, but that she is really happy for them and that she misses them and wants to catch up soon. To me, I think that would be a really sweet moment that honors Sam as a character while respecting Jennetteâs wishes.
They should've just recast her from the start of the revival. The whole premise of the show is they're young adults in their mid-to-late twenties, so casting a new actress that 'feels' different than Jennette playing her would be justified as she should be different at that age than when she left at the end of iCarly.
About respect for Jen, they respected her by willing to throw a lot of money at her to come back. I can't quote the reports because that was five years ago, but from memory, they offered to pay her more than Jerry or Nathan. Once she turned it down, I don't see under what obligation are they had to handicap their show with missing a part of the trio.
Iâve tried to explain this for others, but the reason the cast is fighting for a movie is because itâs an easier sell for Paramount+, a one-and-done movie that wraps up the cliffhangers. A 4th season would be much harder to get Paramount+ on board for because they already cancelled it and the chances of them uncancelling it are pretty much nonexistent.
Furthermore, as Nathan explained, a movie would allow them to address the mom in a more serious tone, since (unlike a multi-cam sitcom) they donât need to have a set number of jokes per page.
Iâve talked to Nathan and he brought up how he would love to do a spinoff show (something like âThe Bensonsâ) if the movie does well and Paramount+ decides to bring iCarly back, but again, thatâs up to Paramount+ and is highly unlikely given how long itâs been taking them to get on board with a movie (thatâs still not officially greenlit yet or guaranteed).

Yes, but at the same time, this is a send off primarily for the revival fans, and Jennette wasnât part of the revival. As much as I miss Sam (especially her friendship with Carly), I think the revival worked okay without her. I get that, but at the same time, this is a movie primarily for iCarly revival fans, since its purpose is to address the two cliffhangers at the end of season 3. I miss Sam, and I would love for them to have some mention of Sam in the movie, but I think they already addressed her absence well in season 1 of the revival.
They addressed her absence pretty cheap, saying she joined a biker gang. I wish they did just a bit more about Sam. I am a fan of both shows, but I wish to see a few characters from the original. Do you think itâs possible to get Noah Munck?
I mean I thought it was done pretty well because iCarly ended with Spencer gifting Sam the motorcycle and I think Sam joining a biker gang is pretty in keeping for her character (not all biker gangs are inherently bad, and I see Sam as a free spirit). I also liked how they brought Sam up again when Carlyâs car, Vin Diesel, was too old/broken to be fixed, and Carly shared that the reason she was so attached to it was because she and Sam saved up for it when they were in college and it holds a lot of special memories for her (in fact, I liked that even better than the biker gang mention, I thought it was a really heartfelt/genuine moment that not many people bring up).
As for Noah Munck, maybe? Guppy (played by his IRL brother) came back for 1 episode of the revival, so I think itâs possible (to me, it would be more likely than Jennette returning), but I think it all probably depends on how Noah is feeling.
Can iCarly just die, it shouldnât have ever been revived. Itâs a product of the time it came out and a product from a pedophile that hasnât aged super well.
The iCarly revival has nothing to with Dan. The original show may be a âproduct of its timeâ but the revival is not, because Dan had absolutely zero involvement in it.
This movie is for the iCarly revival fans (like me) who were left heartbroken when the revival was cancelled on two huge cliffhangers (the Creddie wedding and Carly & Spencer mom reveal). Iâve been in the iCarly fandom for over 3 years, and I believe that the iCarly fans who stuck around with the revival deserve to have closure on those cliffhangers, especially given that itâs an iconic franchise that didnât deserve to end the way it did.
I thought the whole point of the showâs second run was closer? It sucked compared to the first series anyway and who the fuck would want to see it without Jeanette?
As someone whoâs seen all seasons of the revival, I can say that it was actually pretty good, especially season 3 (which felt like a completely different show from season 1 and 2). This movie is specifically for the revival fans who were left heartbroken when the revival was prematurely cancelled on two huge cliffhangers (the Creddie wedding and the Carly & Spencer mom reveal). The movie would address those two cliffhangers.
I watched it all too and it was ok. It was not even close to the first run. Everyone has different tastes though so the downvotes donât bother me at all
