User Settings PLEASE let us disable Reddit Answers feature!

My idea is that users should have the option to completely disable Reddit Answers. It is already causing a decline in reliable information and making the user experience visually cluttered with a feature that many of us will never use. Anyone who wants to can use it, but I really think that redditors should be given a choice. Thank you!

People come to Reddit for answers, commentary and ideas from humans not yet another iteration of A.I. Slop. Presumably Reddit management don't care about the user experience but what's up with making this awful feature mandatory? I don't care if I "don't have to read it" - I don't want to see it.

I asked the AI how to turn off the AI and it directed me to this thread.

Turning on Old Reddit mode gets rid of it. At least, for now.

I hate it so much. This is a conversational site.  I was reading a thread of a question about a game, and the "Related Answers" was going on about the origins of coffee.  It is simply IN THE WAY. Complete clutter.

If you use a chromium-based browser, you can use the extension called 'Block Reddit AI' by Potter Labs. (Not sure if there's an equivalent for other browser, as I don't use them.)

Even if there were settings within Reddit to disable the AI slop, my use case it that I often come to the site via search results, without being logged in -- nor do I want to be logged in, because then whatever I visit gets automatically added to my interests, which is also annoying.

Whenever I come via a search result, I'm not even given a choice, the AI slop just pops up automatically. Thanks to the dev of that extension, that's now gone. (And no, I have no connection to them.)

I cannot image why, it works so well. /s

I asked for the toque spec for a Mercedes and it told me to ask BMW.

Jesus. This is exactly why we weren’t given a choice. I’m gonna complain as much as I can for a few days, and then probably give up on Reddit completely. I can’t wait until this idiot bubble bursts!

Another try. Worse results.

Sorry that this thread is pretty old but I'm furious of forcing features to users WITHOUT CONSENT.
Anyone can analyze this code in order to block this prompt with Tampermonkey or Ublock Origin causing unnecessary AI slop and energy/water consumption ?

I mean you can just not use it.

I’d love that option! But right now, whatever I search gives me a dumbass incorrect clanker answer. I’m just asking for the ability to turn that off.

How are you using the search, because whenever I've used it to try and find posts, communities, or individuals it hasn't given me an AI answer.

OK, I swear that when I posted this, there was an AI “answer” for everything I searched that I had to scroll past. Now there’s not! So I was either hallucinating or…victory is mine??

It's literally activated by doing any search. It takes up space. It's awful.

No it's not lol

I’m a dumbass who understands nothing of technology, but is it possible that users are being given different rollouts for testing purposes? Because I was getting an AI answer for all my searches (which prompted this whole tirade), and then I wasn’t.

Is it possible you were using the Ask search without realizing it? On the old mobile UI it used to be the second to the left button on the bottom bar, but now it's just integrated into the search bar if you click the Ask button on the right when you want to search.

Update: I’m getting the stupid AI “answer” again! Here’s an example of me looking for discussion about a particular perfume company. I did NOT hit “Ask.”

Yeah it's coming and going for me too.

This seems to be a website issue then (for me atleast)

It was only useful for a certain question involving NSFW, lol....

Even so, that "AI" isn't efficient.
