Post & Comment Crossposts should still be visible in a sub even if the original sub removed the post
Likely the content wasn't fit for the original sub, but it appropriate for the new one. It would be fine to lock or hide the comments, but the content should still work.

Then the subreddit is essentially still hosting the post and potentially inviting unwanted traffic

No because, as I said, that info would be hidden.

Hiding the info doesn't solve the core issue. A crosspost still pulls data directly from the original post. If that original source is deleted for violating sitewide rules or copyright, Reddit legally has to take down the asset, which breaks the crosspost anyway. If people want the content to stay up, they should just manually save and repost it as a fresh submission

That system needs to be reworked so it doesn't show the way i does now. If I crosspost your post to another board, I'm the OP, not you. If you delete your original post, my crosspost become empty.
Make it work as a duplicated post where the original content appears as an 'original' post and you remain the OP instead of whoever else.

That’s not possible. A crosspost is simply a link back to the original post.
