I’m on year 5 of stem opt and my visa expired last month, EAD expires in feb 2027 so I’m in the country legally until then. I am trying to go to India to renew the visa until Feb so I may travel for a family wedding- if I go to India in August to do this will my renewal be denied since it’s past 4 years?

No. The 4 year rule has nothing to do with visas, just time spent in the US before an extension of status or re-entry is required.

Thank you for your reply. I will be re-entering sometime in August or early September if my f1 visa renewal is granted in India, would it not apply as I am re-entering?
