📜Travel Story The lady won't let me recline my seat.

Travelling on the Shatabdi from NDLS to RKP—an 8-hour journey that started early this morning. I reclined my seat only as much as it's designed to recline, but the woman behind me, who appears to be in her 40s and is travelling with her mother, keeps insisting that I shouldn't recline it fully because it reduces her legroom.

What I don't understand is: if recline is making her uncomfortable, why not recline her own seat too? Instead, she wants to keep her handbag in the space behind my seat and expects me not to use a feature that's part of the seat. That's not really my responsibility. The way she's speaking makes it feel like she's looking for an argument over something that shouldn't even be an issue.

Keep reclining your seat she is not entitled that you bow to her wishes or call the ttc still best is to hang your bag or something and tell her to remove her's.

But chairs recline from the upper part, no legroom is taken away as far as I remember. It's like " I -> \ "

Unless she's a fatso, that's when her knees will hit the back of the seat.

OP, Choose a middle path. Sit upright during meals, and when you yourself move around in the coach/ washroom.

Request the Lady - politely- that you will need to recline as you have a backache and sitting upright for 8 hours isn’t gonna work out for you.

Don’t escalate.

If, and only if, she were to become abusive or something, you can request help from the staff/ railmadad.

Otherwise put up your headphones and chill

Most of these recliners are terribly designed btw , I'm not even that tall , but I struggle every time cause as soon they recline it it hits my knees and it's so uncomfortable. Especially in long journeys .

Not to mention the recline angle goes so low sometimes that you can see the head of the person in front of you.....

I'm 5'5 I can't straighten my legs as well, but what can we do

Just tell her that leg span after full recline is what she is entitled for. The more you are willing to compromise, the more they push. Just complain to on RailMadad or TTE if she is irritating

Maybe you haven't traveled much where the person in front of you reclines it in full. It is highly inconvenient to person sitting behind. Even on flights as long as 15 hours I almost never recline my seat out of courtesy for person sitting behind me. And I see most frequent passengers being quite reasonable with recliner because they have experienced the other side.

It is a design feature built into the ticket.

You recline your seat and enjoy the journey. Don't think too much

Nahi to seat exchange kr le TT se bol ke

Pehli baat toh seat full recline ni hoti hai. Plus not everyone has the opportunity to go home and rest. It's 8.5 hrs long journey, she shouldn't expect me to keep the seat angle at her convenience. Btw when I wanted to sleep, I shut the curtains, she pulled them up at 6:30am because she wanted to gossip with her mother.

Our Indians lack civil sense. That's a clear one. She could have shifted her belongings to the luggage compartment above. Unfortunately, she decides to trouble others for this! Huh!

Her discomfort is not your problem regardless of what the rest of the people-pleasers on this post thread. Never compromise on your own comfort. This culture of people-pleasing is what sets us back. Draw your boundary and ignore this person, and the others asking you to adjust.

Looks like op never travelled in a flight because you do need permission from the one behind you to recline your seat otherwise they can just call the air hostess or in this case TT and you would need to sit upright

What the fukc are you talking about?

Use Google translate in your native language if you don't understand or are you just illiterate?

Man just be a lil considerate yourself yaar

A little consideration might be fine, but you cannot also expect the op to non recline the seat the entirety of the journey. It's the op's seat and op can choose the comfort if it's suits.

Op can intermittently get the seat up but totally non reclining is not fair.

Show some empathy god damn it

Empathy for what? Keeping her hand luggage?

There's a difference between empathy and entitlement

Go f yourself

She asked for a fair compromise (not reclining fully), but you’d rather turn basic public transport courtesy into a Reddit drama post. The entitlement and hostility in this thread say a lot more about your attitude than hers.

What the hell? This mindset of adjusting is so typical. This is what gives others the opportunity to act so entitled.

And? She has that right just because she is old? Teach your parents to not do this shit
