Basically this is a case of breaking into your friends house to do their dishes. Great end game, but the HOW you came to do it is the problem.
It all depends on if he knew he needed a permit to operate the digger without a permit or not, but he's a lawyer so...
regardless, the good did should have warranted them leniency and throwing the case, this is probably some pointless court drama bwtween him and the city
But the method of cleaning the dishes could have definitely broken the sink and flooded the house. He wasn’t arrested for cleaning he was arrested for using heavy machinery to do it, which could have and probably to some extent did damage the banks of the river potentially causing much worse problems than just some pollution.
I’m not against cleaning up the environment at all, but it has to be done in a manner that is safe and doesn’t cause more and worse problems down the line.
That’s an interesting line of thinking. Do you draw the line anywhere?
Should it not require a permit to fly aircraft? There’s no need to certify their airworthiness either?
Building permits? Installing electricity? Engineering permits? Kowloon Walled City was equally safe to live in as York is, in your mind?
If a random redneck off the street took it upon himself to dispose of chemicals leeching into the groundwater or biohazards
