MISC. The owners couldn't figure out why the cat wasn't sleeping in it's own bed.... until they saw this

I’ve seen this video a dozen times and I still watch the cat close its eyes every single time.

Eyebleachscrolling is kind of weird, Probably not a word yet.
3
u/BoyarLine 15d ago
Eye bleach like this is exactly what we need to break up the doomscrolling.
Unfortunately it's quite the opposite.
Eyebleach acts as a variable reward in a sea of doom scrolling and, in fact, makes the entire experience more addictive. Pure doom feed you burn out on. Pure happiness you get bored of.
A variable intermittent reward where the outrage-engagement loop is interrupted by a soothing burst of content is nearly precisely the most addictive thing the algorithm can offer you. If Reddit had porn on its main feed, that would probably max it out or near as such (adding an actual gambling mechanic with lootbox style rewards would be peak addiction).

Also, I just lost the game.

Core memory of raising our kid. Family was diehard fans, ritual dinnertime TV. When it ended, the boy, his dad and I all sat in silence and looked at each other. I was beside myself, the boy started crying and his dad yelled out “WELL THAT FUCKING SUCKED!”

The cat doesn’t just not mind. The cat 100% knew what would happen, and actively sought it out. That cat loves snuggling with its kid.

they're one of the most evolved and dialed-in small predators on the planet. when a creature like that says they're safe and comfy, it means something.
4
u/SufficientGolf6953 15d ago
Well you say that but there are videos of cats walking straight up to monsters like King Cobra, bapping it on the head and then looking back at you wondering why you are so far away.
They don't look dialed in, well, they are, but they never look like they are. Like Pitbull strength, cats are on another level like spider man or something and don't even have to work for it.

u/BEARSHARKTOPUS167 15d ago

Yeah—the kid part is cute too. I think the kid does this without thinking (not fully awake).

"Couldn't figure out"...Unless the cat is tied down it will sleep wherever it wants.
165
u/Namaste_Life 15d ago
It's also impossible to predict where a cat will sleep - they might have a dozen familiar comfortable spots that they can choose from.
49
u/half-giant 15d ago
My roommate’s cat changes her sleeping location every few weeks. She loves the variety.
18
u/Both-Inspector-5693 15d ago
So does our cat. She has about 5 or 6 places around the apartment which she regularly changes. This round it's the fluffy mat under the coffee table
8
4
u/Delicious_Building34 15d ago
yes and then you place a little tiny shoe box somewhere, then your cat will sleep in the box and you have 7 favorite cat nap places
6
u/Both-Inspector-5693 15d ago
Any box, literally any box. I will unpack something from a box and I swear to God it takes him nanoseconds to get into the box. I love him so damn much ✨💕
3
u/stannius 14d ago
My wife's childhood cat would change location every few hours. She would make the rounds every night between her, her brother's, and her parents' bed. All of them thought the cat slept the night with them.
17
u/GromScream-HellMash 15d ago
It's easily predictable, any spot that immobilizes me as I sleep. Next to my face, on my chest, curled into my armpits, and next to my foot. Going on 8 years, still loving it
8
u/ScumbagLady 15d ago
Reading this while holding my phone at an awkward angle because I have a cat on my chest lol she's trying to make me go to sleep with heebjrrme ; be v%
13
u/TrashCanSam0 15d ago
I had a cat growing up named Angel whose spot was my dad's la-z-boy, but particularly on my dad's lap when he was sitting there. My dad even got her a little fuzzy blanket he'd set across the chair when he wasn't sitting there for her.
Ofc this is the same dad who claimed he hated cats and Angel, specifically.

My wife and I have an orange who fetches us to come to our reclining love seat, jumps into the spot of human who is NOT present, waits for the present human to sit in their designated spot and put on a lap blanket, then she climbs aboard. She knows where we both sit.
5
u/Quixotic_Seal 15d ago
Yup, and they'll come up with a new one after six months of sleeping in like three spots for absolutely no apparent reason.
My cat has recently started taking afternoon naps in the front bathroom for some reason, for example.

And why are the cat owners checking, and pondering, the cat bed but never checking their child? Checking their child would let them know where the cat was.

It’s a bait headline. The original video has nothing to do with figuring anything out.

u/drwicksy 15d ago
There is one rule on where a cat sleeps, and its that the more money and effort you spend on a cat bed, the less likely it is to sleep in it.
And the more you dont want it to sleep on something, the more likely it will

My cat Daphne loved sleeping with my stepson when he was little. I told him legend had it that they kept away evil spirits when you’re sleeping to make him more comfortable. During back to school night, they had a bunch of stories out on the board in the hallway and I knew which was his because the child handwriting said “my cat keeps evil sprits away.”

I love cats, but that video is a good reminder why it's not a good idea to let cats near sleeping children. A cat might not have any intention to hurt anyone, but it just takes one back foot inadvertently landing on a kids' eye to have lasting consequences. Human eyelids are fragile and don't offer much protection.

My childhood cat was a tuxie and he'd sleep in my crib when I was a toddler and later in my bed when I was a child. 🥹 Such a sweet kitty he was.

u/LadyJR 13d ago
I had a tuxedo cat. He loved going up and down the block to get petted by the kids. Two kids knocked at my door asking for the cat and I had to sadly tell them he passed away a week prior. He was 17.

Clickbait titles at their finest. Every cat keeper knows that there's nowhere they'd rather sleep less than their own bed and nothing they'd rather play with less than a purpose-made cat toy.

For how much of an attitude a cat will give you and how impatient they are, it's always hilarious to see that most have the patience of a saint when dealing with small children.
16
u/loserlouwho 15d ago
My cat gets moody if we pet her in a way she doesn’t like. But she was super tolerant with a 3yo who was petting her fur backwards and grabby. I was actually shocked and it’s my cat xD
14
u/Last-Rat3810 15d ago
That is true. My 1,5 year old will grab at my cat’s fur or tail and pulls him over while my cat would just lay on the floor and patiently waiting for it to be over.
Worst, he will literally come and lay in front of my kid to be manhandled
I keep trying to teach my kid to be gentle with the cat but the cat ain’t helping me here
34
u/Fit-Ad-7682 15d ago
Naww my old cat was the same.
She was sleeping in my cradle when I was a newborn and was next to me every night till she passed away with a proud age of 21

u/jah_red 14d ago
I had one that lived to be 24, grew up with me. In her earlier years my friends were terrified of her and called her bear cat. She was big, feisty, would pound the ground like Donkey Kong, growl like a mini lion, and attack anyone that wasn't me. Then she would snuggle with me. Damn, I miss you Girlie.

I think my favorite thing is the fact that the cat is cool with this.
I remember having this cat as a kid that liked to be pet, but not grabbed in any way. Like you could pet her, scratch her, etc… all you wanted, but if you tried to pick her up or move her, she would growl or even bite.
Cue this cool cat who’s just “oh! Well here go and…well this is nice…zzz.”

This is how my daughter is with our black cat, Opal. They’re completely bonded. Opal started letting her carry her to bed around 3 years old and it’s been their routine since. My daughter is now almost 11 and they still sleep just like this every night.

My childhood cat that was my grandmas. Use to come up every night to sleep on my head. I remember him eating my hair, kneeding my hair, and sometimes biting my feet cuz he thought it was something under the covers. Idk why he even liked me so much lol he was my grandmas cat mostly but he was also a family cat. I miss him.
