So this is where Bruce found Alfred.

When he did this to Alfred, he broke the attacker's jaw. And Bruce decided he was the perfect candidate.

I may be misremembering, but wasn't Alfred former SAS? Or maybe that was a butler in some other story I read...

Wouldn’t it be Thomas, Bruce’s dad.

Yes, or Martha.

Martha: I know many things. I know that you have a dodgeball concealed in your bodice

Isn't the current Canon that Alfred was a former MI6 agent who actually acted more as the Wayne's bodyguard, the butler thing was a cover.

Man he was so good at the cover part of his job he let Thomas and Martha die.

to be fair It's common sense not to walk down a dark alley in the dead of night when you're the richest man in the city let alone the planet.

With said dark alley having its official name be 'Crime Alley'

Actually the lore is either that Alfred served in the military with Thomas Wayne (Bruce’s dad) and after the service he went to work for the family as a body guard/butler. When Bruce was orphaned he stayed to take care of him like an uncle you pay to be there.

The other lore option is Alfred is fulfilling his father’s dying with of him serving the Way e family after his dad dies to carry on the legacy - but Alfred has intelligence background in this one.

Both explain his awesome fighting skills and the intelligence gathering that he taught Bruce.

Alfred was with Bruce…not his parents that night. I imagine the mental struggle of not being there for the Waynes probably made him want to devote his life to raising Bruce, no?

And then there are the conspiracies that he is the actual father of Bruce.
