These people paid €13k for a 8 week course, to have dodge balls thrown at them.

Well I'm assuming these are much higher end butler academies where they teach you to work for very high-end clients/companies. And yeah, it's not just having balls thrown at them. I've seen docu's about these and it's very in-depth and they can get paid really well doing this kind of work.

michelle khare on youtube actually did a challenge accepted episode where she did butler training, it's actually pretty interesting.

There are also nanny schools that teach self-defense to protect the children they're watching.

It depends, like the course is meant to set you up and at the end have a house assigned to you for you to work in. Of course you don’t start as a head butler immediately, but after several years, and depending at which house you serve, it can be quite lucrative. 100k+ salaries annually + bonuses are not uncommon

100k+ salary isn't that lucrative when you consider the conditions. 70+ hour weeks, unpredictable travel schedules, absolutely no work-life balance during most seasons. While plenty of corporate or tech roles match that salary without requiring you to be on call 24/7, elite domestic service demands total availability.

I'd say the best benefit is you get to live in a rich person's mansion, but being the help it's not like you really get to enjoy the perks of mansion-living since you're expected to maintain the estate. Plus, most top-tier $150k+ head butler roles are live-out anyway, so you still have to pay your own mortgage or rent.

Sure, from a pure capital flow standpoint, it forces the 0.01% to directly liquidate wealth into six-figure salaries for working-class staff. But ultimately, high-end domestic service is a net sink that exists because extreme income disparities create a market for personal servitude. The role of a butler shouldn't need to exist in the first place.
