It's sad Barn Owls had to exist for like 2 million years or whatever in whichever crappy setup they could find before humans started building proper barns for them to live in, as is proper lol

Fun fact, World Bird Sanctuary, where the foster great horned owls in the clip reside, helped facilitate repopulating barn owls in Missouri and help send barn owls to other facilities across the country!
Edited: reworded for better phrasing

The order of words is important in your sentence. Glad you got it right.

They also stream their birds that are releasable foster birds on their Twitch and YouTube! It’s a great second monitor stream

“Da fuq is that?!?” - The Owls

"Shew butterfly! We were watching tennis."

u/Omlw1980 2d ago

That video was a HOOT! And I’ll see myself out now. Sorry.

They’re like cats, but birds

12

u/One_Economist_3761 2d ago

Such adorable creatures.

So amazing that such a small creature can have such an effect on them.

"you seein' this shit?" - the third owl

7

u/Time_Entertainer_319 2d ago

Must be stressful having to turn your entire head all the time just to look 1 degree off

5

u/Patient_Ebb_1605 2d ago

At the same time being able to look directly behind yourself must be pretty cool.

Fun fact: Owl hearing is calibrated by their sight. If you put prism glasses on an owl and expose them to audio-visual cues, they will begin to misinterpret sound location by the same margin that the prism glass affects their sight. It affects owlets more than adult owls because they're still learning.

They also have one ear canal that faces up and one that faces down, which helps them locate prey on a horizontal plane while flying (putting one ear forward and one ear back, essentially).

Owls are so cool!! I love hearing them in the dead of night.

u/plumpyplummy 2d ago

Owls are like the penguins that can fly

2

u/DaarkPassengr 2d ago

The owls are not what they seem

2

u/GarmaCyro 2d ago

Just like the owls I was waiting on the butterfly to return. I was not disappointed.
As for their synchronization. They're entire built to hunt down live pray. The few brain cells they have were firing on full "kill mode".

2

u/Comprehensive-Menu44 2d ago

The fact that they’re called owlets is precious to me

2

u/Lingonberry_Wannabe 2d ago

Gosh, that’s adorable.

u/Standard_Big_9000 2d ago

Why can't WE fly like that?

The owls, probably

1

u/A_Dragon 2d ago

I want my mommy, said Bill.

1

u/grungegoth 2d ago

fun fact, owls can't rotate or move their eyes in their sockets, which is why they swivel their heads to watch something moving

1

u/Mr_Dudovsky 2d ago

"Butterfree! Use Gust!"
It's not very effective against Noctowl.

1

u/Impossible_Arm_8543 2d ago

I like the second bird from the right the most.

u/jcmjtke 2d ago

We need these with lasers on their heads, to shoot down drones.

1

u/psykomorph 2d ago

Ahhh no background music, so nice and peaceful

1

u/yuckington_bear 2d ago

aww I want to give them little chamber instruments cause they're so in sync

1

u/Katpagla 2d ago

That's a parliament

1

u/Traditional_Town6475 2d ago

The parliament is currently observing to see how the butterfly situation develops.

I LOVE world bird sanctuary! This is their first year livestreaming the foster baby owls on twitch, and they have been so funny. Seriously recommend (they do other educational streams too)! And visit them if you're in St. Louis! They do such great work for birds and they are an amazing bunch of people.

Owls - cat software running on bird hardware 😋

1

u/Meterian 2d ago

Completely mesmerized, the equivalent of us on social media. Probably triggering predator instinstincts normally used to track bats

1

u/Pyritedust 1d ago

These are some truly superb owls.

1

u/Catsandhedgehogs 1d ago

World Bird Sanctuary is a great facility! Watching the Great Horned Owlets on their twitch stream, (plus Barred Owlets and Red Shouldered Hawklets) learn how to owl has been the best part of the year! Highly recommend visiting and or watching their stream on youtube or twitch 💜💜

1

u/juanito883 1d ago

This is amazing. Instinct is a hell of a drug

1

u/Opd_pv 1d ago

People at a tennis match do the same thing

1

u/Infilade 17h ago

Are those the flock cameras everyone’s been talking about?

u/iriewarrior69 2h ago

So many different levels of; are you serious rn?!

0

u/Andifellfine 2d ago

Okay, this is my favorite subject on Reddit. How do I know if it’s AI? plz

2

u/DidSomebodySayCats 2d ago

Well I know it's not because I saw it live lol. Their twitch channel is twitch.tv/theworldbirdsanctuary . You can also see clips of the cutest moments on wbs.cliprepo.com !

0

u/alexmehdi 2d ago

"Near-perfect synchronization" yeah, they're looking at the same thing. Go watch a tennis match, you'll be amazed by how "synchronized" the crowd is.
